“lego kits for adults cheap +lego creator grand emporium review”

My big dilemma is whether to take a gamble and invest in a couple of firebrigades for resell later…I don’t have heaps of spare cash, but I could sit it out for around 6 months or so…perhaps….but in reality I want to spend that money on sets I can play with now!! (I just built the pig farmer, and so now of course I need a farm!)
I think you would have to look at it in an entrepreneur/business man’s point of view to understand it. If people aren’t buying enough of the sets to keep a good profit after a few years, Lego might find that they would make more money using the same pieces if they were to discontinue the set and release a new one people would buy more of. If you already have an old set that is still on the market, there wouldn’t be much point in buying a second or third. (assuming its for personal use.)
Then one day one of my friends recommended a “natural remedy” doctor. ‘Oh great!’ I thought. A witch doctor who’s going to put some fake voodoo hex on my feet and tell me it hurts. No thanks. I’d rather go to a regular doctor who will hurt me the old fashioned way. But I decided to give it a try.

My solution to ensure some creative Harry Potter-themed Lego fun without breaking the bank has used all of the above sources. First, I showed my daughter the downloadable plans for all the Harry Potter Lego sets which gives her great ideas, and helps her build approximations of them with our old Legos (we have tons, including a lot from my own childhood — one of Lego’s many virtues that it’s practically indestructible!). Then, I ordered some special parts and figures from Bricklink (spiral staircases, Gryffindor banners, the Fat-Lady’s portrait hole, chocolate frogs, etc.), scored one small lot of mixed Harry Potter Lego pieces at a reasonable price on eBay, and found the rest of the pieces we needed on the lego.com site (where we got a free gift). I then left it up to my kids’ imaginations to build their own Hogwarts. The colors might be a mixed bag, but all their friends ooh and aah when they come over, and I haven’t heard one word of complaint.

I didn’t actually do this but I think, right now, (late 2012) if you want new copies of each, you are looking at around 3500-4000 USD, plus or minus. (Quick check, the cheapest new, MISB Cafe Corner is 1300ish, Green Grocer about 500ish and Market Street around 1300 as well… the others are less since they are still in production, yoiu can probably get all 4 for less than a grand…)
Another easy way to reduce the price: Just order your pieces by Status, and scroll down until you find the pieces marked with a blueish cross. Those are the extra pieces that come in every set. Delete them immediately. In my case, those were US$ 20 less.

The Dynamic Duo Funhouse Escape sure is fun. It comes with Batman, Robin, The Joker, the Riddler and Harley Quinn, as well as a Batcycle and the funhouse itself. It’s a surprisingly-intricate building, with wagon rails, a crane, a hammer, an opening trap door and a very easy to use, moving floor. The whole thing is 8” tall and 11” wide, with the Batcycle coming in at 4” long. It’s just a really action-packed set, especially considering it’s only 380 pieces and can still be found on Amazon for under $100 .
Now, I generally buy LEGO not as an investment but because I like it. That said, I do like getting a good value for my money. With regards to Modular Buildings, these truly are a good value to buy on the primary market (i.e. normal retail of current sets, not Bricklink, Ebay, or the likes), as an enthusiast and as an investor. The models are beautiful and they impress AFOLs and the general public alike. They are filled with interesting building techniques and cute details. They are very satisfying to build. As a set, they merit being valued highly. Now, to add icing on the cake, if you look at the parts that make the whole, you then see the real steal that Modular Building are. With US prices, the building tend to be under 7 cents per piece. Compare that to the price per piece on your favorite sets. We’re on the low end here. I don’t see sets going for less than 6 cents per piece and often times they go for 10 or 11 cents. Your bucket of bricks tends to be at the 7 cent level, but a bucket of bricks doesn’t have as a nice part selection as the modular houses do. So even if you were to buy the sets for new bricks, throwing away all the packaging and instructions and parting the whole thing out for MOCs, I still think it would be a good value.
Anyone else noticed that 6212 – X-Wing (http://www.brickset.com/detail/?set=6212-1) has disappeared from S@H (UK)? This slipped under my radar and was pointed out to me by @Kempo81. This is a great set IMO, and the length of time on-sale (nearly 4 years) suggest it was a great seller.

The LEGO Modular Buildings series continues with this spectacularly detailed 3-story department store, designed in a realistic scale with lots of special building techniques and rare pieces. On the street outside, citizens carry shopping bags, send letters at the mailbox, admire the window mannequins, then cool off at the ice cream stand while a busy window washer works above. Enter through the revolving doors to discover a ground-floor clothing department, complete with a cash register, fitting room, hats, jewelry, perfume, and even a selection of spare trousers. A brick-built escalator carries customers to the second floor housewares department with glassware and golden plates for special occasions, and then it’s up to the top floor for the toy department (complete with toy house and push-scooter) with an impressive chandelier above the open atrium. Up on the roof are a billboard and skylight.

I like the modulars, I think a lot of them look really great, but it comes down to the fact that I like other sets more. If I had an unlimited budget, I’d buy the modulars, but as long as I have to watch my spending I have to buy the sets I really, really want. And that means Star Wars, POTC, and other themes. However, I do guarantee you that if there is a modular police station, that will go on my list if it is well done, but I’ve got to pick and choose and these sets just didn’t make the cut since I am not building a town.
