The minifigure as we know it today, standing 4 cm. or four bricks high, has always been an iconic cornerstone of LEGO sets, designed by LEGO model builder Jens Nysgarrd Knudsen and first released in 1978. According to LEGO.com, the yellow color was chosen to display equalization in ethnic society. In 2003, minifigures with natural skin tones were released as part of the LEGO NMA Basketball line to represent specific people such as Shaquille O’Neal. These natural toned minifigures didn’t make it to LEGO Star Wars until 2005, just in time for the release of sets for Episode III, including General Grievous Chase (#7255), which included Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi Starfighter, and Vulture Droid (#7256), which included Anakin Skywalker. Anakin was also released as part of the Ultimate Lightsaber Duel (#7257). 2005 also saw the release of the first original trilogy sets with skin tone colored minifigures that included Imperial Inspection (#7264) with Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, and two Imperial Officers. Two UCS sets were released in 2005, taking the tally of sets to 22 (not including promotional sets). These were the Sandcrawler (#10144) and the largest set released up until 2005, Death Star II with 3,441 pieces. 2005 also saw several promotional sets including a figure and display stand given to guests invited by LEGO to the 2005 International Toy Fair in New York in February. The figures featured were either Luminara Unduli or Anakin Skywalker, both of which came with light-up lightsabers. At the International Toy Fair in New York, VIPs were also given a special boxed edition of Darth Vader’s Transformation (#7251). At the International Toy Fair in Nuremberg, Germany, guests were given a light-up Darth Vader polybag figure.
Dang, I was hoping to save money to get something like the Sandcrawler or the Ewok Village. I am also shocked to see Dr. Who and The Big Bang Theory up on that list to. I wonder if Lego is having supply issues again, or if demand is so high it brought about a fast end of those projects.
I put two Palace Cinemas on hold at my ‘local’ lego store. They still have alot left but i wanted two. One to build and another to keep for a couple years. I got to drive an hour and a half to my nearest store though.
Every person works best with their own system, so these final tips are offered as suggestions to try in an effort to help. They are not meant to be definitive in any sense of the word. You may implement the ones you like and disregard the ones that don’t work for you.
No, I wrote this article just a couple of days ago. I didn’t see the Dragon on the list, so I could have missed it, or items also sometimes appear and then disappear from the list. I have seen that happen many times. That’s why it’s important to regularly check. 😉
My son lpved Legos and also Bionicles. We lived overseas and when he returned to the US he left all of it with us. I ended up giving away the Lehos, but the Bionicles I brought back for him. Amazingly, he now works for Legoland Florida!
I’ve been going through dozens of collections posted online by LEGO Star Wars collectors, and these following sets represent in a general sense, what you can find out there and add to your own collection.
Probably a silly question, but can’t Judith buy from the US site? I’ve often wondered. I grew up in Germany and England, so the regional sets would interest me. A central site offering all sets to everyone would be nice.
Sometimes small and simple can be good things.  This set is very basic, consisting of 282 pieces, many of which are minifigurines and Droids.  The set replicates the scene in Revenge of the Sith where Anakin is transformed into Vader.  The Emperor is included as a minifigurine along with Anakin, Vader, and two Droids.  This is a quick build, but the payoff is fantastic.  Getting to lower Anakin and flip the table over to reveal Vader is an incredibly simple, but fun moment to experience in the Lego world (manually adding his helmet in extreme slow motion is totally optional, but highly recommended).  What this set lacks in size and depth it more than makes up for in fun and cool accessories.
With only 90 pieces, the Speeder Bikes set includes two Speeder Bikes, plus two Scout Troopers and Luke Skywalker. While not as big as the other sets, your collection will benefit from this awesome set, as will your wallet (it’s under $50)!

Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Darth Vader, and Princess Leia hold iconic status in the Star Wars universe. LEGO Star Wars minifigures allow movie fans to collect and play with their favorite characters….
Although this set is relatively expensive for the number of pieces contained within (compared to the Lego average), the pieces tend to be larger ones, and the unique figures certainly justify the additional cost. This is a fantastic set for kids who want to re-enact the movie scene or are otherwise looking for a play-heavy set (the construction is durable and will hold up to enthusiastic play), or for Star Wars fans who want to build this set for display. If you’re going to get one current non-ship Star Wars set, this should be it. Recommended for everyone who loves Star Wars and Lego, especially if you can get this set at a discount.

The less cool little brother of the X-Wing, the Y-Wing has always gotten a bit of a bum wrap.  They don’t project the sleek, effortless cool of a TIE or X-Wing fighter, but they get the job done and played a big role in the Star Wars universe.  Y-Wings were featured throughout many Star Wars movies, this one comes with minifigurines of Admiral Raddus and Moroff, suggesting it was set in the Rogue One timeframe.  The pilot is a generic Rebel pilot, rounding out the minifigurines are a Stormtrooper and an Astromech droid.  The extras on this set are why it makes our list.  The retracting landing gear is great, but the using the included crane to lift the ammo into place, then a fantastic rear gearwheel mechanic is used to drop the payload.  It’s quite a fun little mechanical twist that really stands out.  This build will likely take an hour or two, so not terrible complicated, but still a fun time as always.  The Y-Wing isn’t as sexy as an X-Wing, but it still deserves a place on your Lego shelf.
Thanks for these tips for buying LEGO sets. It’s good to know there are sites where I can go to compare prices. I would like my son to have his own LEGO collection, so I should do this to find the best price for a cool set for him to put together.
Carbon Freezing Chamber (75137):  Another iconic moment in the Star Wars universe captured perfectly on a small scale.  Boba Fett and Han are here (along with Ugnaught) to recreate the freezing scene.

As for how we judge sets ourselves, we tend to break it down into two categories:  the build and the components.  We’re like any other Lego enthusiast, we love the build.  It needs to be challenging and engaging, not something that can be pieced together without instructions.  It doesn’t necessarily have to be a huge set, there is often a lot of fun to be had in smaller sets, but the build needs to grab our attention.  Most of those on our list end up being on the longer side for builds, as it’s the nature of the build that sets with more detailed builds will end up more engaging for us.

I kept the enemy at bay for a long time. I was no stranger to stepping on sharp little pointy plastic pieces in the middle of the night; I had little brothers. So, I told my sons that we were not going to have Lego.
I’m a big lego fan and really like this castle. The only problem with it really is that the Gate section falls apart easily, which is a pain because it takes a long time to build. I added some solid bricks on the inside of the gate walls and that helped give it more stability. The kids in my 5 – 7 year old classroom loved it, as does my daughter.

Why is it a better deal?  Because buying used LEGOs is quite predictable in the sense is that is kind of disappointing.  I don’t really find “deals.”  Sure they are cheaper than buying new LEGOs but it’s not really comparable because you would never buy a mish-mosh of new LEGOs from various sets, right?  What would happen if you get a whole bunch of “special pieces”? Your child may not be familiar with that set/theme and thus may not know what to do with some of those pieces.  Those are usually the big klunky pieces that just take up space.  Find out what they are and use it or give it away.

After years of play or a “great deal” at a yard sale, you may become the proud owner of grubby clumps of dirt that could once be considered LEGO. These are not too difficult to clean, but it can be time-consuming for a large collection. While you’re at it, learn how to reverse discoloration due to sun damage.
Relive the ultimate betrayal in Cloud City with this rare LEGO Star Wars set. Lando is ready to turn our heroes over to the dark side! Don’t worry, when you build it, you can make the story go however you please. This 698 piece set will leave you frozen in disbelief (thankfully not in Carbonite!) at how cool it is. Build Quality: Pretty solid, I’m happy to say. This set does not sacrifice build quality for detail (which many LEGO sets unfortunately do). You may find that the tree tops pop off when you’re rearranging the different modules, but everything else sticks solid.
Michelle, not a silly question at all. LEGO automatically chooses your region based on your shipping address, and while it is possible to change your region just to see what is available in other regions, once you start shopping, the region will change back to your own.

  1. I know this because I got hit with flooding twice in the last year. On top of loosing stuff I also want stuff. Especially the Slave I. I called Lego and told them everything that was going on and how much I wanted the set. They researched what they could but in the end they just don’t have that information very far in advance. They did send me an email letting me know that based on how long it has been out I probably have time.
This set has quite a few play features, lots of minifigures, a horse and a catapult. This set is straight forward to put together; younger children shouldn’t have too much of a problem with it with a little help from older siblings or a parent. At an MSRP of $99 with the large pieces it contains, this set is a good value.
