This is one drawback of being the second child. You never have time to become gradually familiar with a building toy. There aren’t even enough simple bricks after you start buying set after set.  Instead you inherit of big mass from big brother and if you didn’t pick up the “LEGO language” quickly, well, then you need a translator!
The catapult is shaped like a dragon. Push on the head, and the tail flings a brick. This catapult is much easier to operate than those included in the previous Kingdoms set (outpost attack), the brick flies about 3-4 feet without much effort.
The very reason people are scrambling to collect the sets after they have been retired is because they didn’t do so while they were in production, for any multitude of reasons. As an example, some of the Star Wars UCS sets — 10143 Death Star, for example — were discounted by LEGO for many months before they was discontinued. If the stock was really flying off the shelves, that wouldn’t have been the case.
Even on eBay you will have several options, depending on how much money you hope to make and how much work you are willing to do. If you take apart the sets, clean them, verify all the original pieces are present, re-pack them into bags and the original boxes with original instructions, you can make significantly more than if you just take a picture of the bulk lot and say “what you see is what you get”.
This is really interesting. I guess the research is the most important part to see if it makes sense to reconstruct a set vs. just buying it on the secondary market. Personally I wouldn’t mind substituting parts when they are too expensive or hard to find. Lego sets are really just an idea to start with anyway.
Star Wars fans are no joke. They live, breathe and would eat all-things Star Wars if they can! In 1999, LEGO started to make Star Wars sets and figures and since then, these sets have become hot items for collectors. For the past 12 years, there have been more than 200 sets, and some of them have pretty high price tags, selling for well over $1,000. Since there are too many to list, we thought we’d feature 22 of the coolest Star Wars LEGO sets around!
Gemr is the leading platform for collectors to discover, display, discuss, and buy & sell collectibles. Sometimes our team gets chummy and decides to write a blog together. Or maybe someone wants to keep their identity a secret. Pick which option you like best and we’ll just say that’s correct.
I was checking out the online LEGO shop today and noticed several sets that were marked retiring soon and was quite surprised. Specifically the Rebel Combat Frigate and Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum which both came out in August 2016.
Palpatine’s Arrest 9526 Anakin Skywalker (New Ep III re-design), Mace Windu (New Ep III re-design), Kit Fisto, Agen Kolar (New design), Saesee Tiin (New Ep III design), Chancellor Palpatine (New Ep III design) 2012 645
Recreate the iconic Star Wars scene in Revenge ofthe Sith with Emperor Palpatine and Mace Windu. This RARE set includes 5 NEW HARD-TO-FIND MINIFIGURES: Mace Windu, Chancellor Palpatine, Kit Fisto, Ana…
as someone who got the rebel combat frigate, it isn’t that interesting of a build and would probably only appeal to die hard star wars/star wars rebels fans. the Asoka and Cmdr. Sato minifigures are unique to this set, but it’s also a $110 dollar set.
In addition to BrickLink, which is almost certainly the largest LEGO specific venue other than the LEGO company itself, and has 4 million lots as of this writing, you may find that Bonanza.com has some listings of sets as well
Megan, thanks for sharing! Yes, postage fees can really add up if you don’t manage your wanted list right. Good suggestion about buying parts for several projects at the same time. Have fun with piecing together those awesome sets! 🙂
Provide aerial back-up for an expedition of discovery with the cool LEGO City Arctic Helicrane! Head out into the wild with the Arctic explorer on a husky sled equipped with a camera, light and radar screen. Scan the huge ice block for hidden crystals… more

2017 is quickly coming to an end and to make way for some of the upcoming LEGO Ideas sets including Ship In A Bottle: The Flagship Leviathan, Voltron: Defender of the Universe, and Tron Legacy Light Cycle, LEGO will soon be retiring some of the current ones that are still on store shelves. LEGO didn’t mention when they would be retired but it’s possible that it could be by the end of this year or early next year.
Brickwizard is a program that works off of Brickstore and it can help do all the leg work in trying to find the best prices on bricklink. The only downside is that it is not as flexible when and if you want to make substitutions.
Great article!  I LOVE all these Star Wars Lego sets.  (Small correction:  #2 on your list is 6211 Imperial Star Destroyer, but image is of the even more awesome 10030 Imperial Star Destroyer with 3096 pieces).  Also, for me personally, I’d replace #12 AT-AT Walker with the 10178 Motorized AT-AT that walks around my kitchen and bumps into things.  🙂
Four years later, Lego is still high on her Christmas list. I’m happy to contribute, albeit without spending inordinate amounts of cash. While specific sets are great, there are other ways to please your Lego-maniacs. Here’s how, you, too, can save some pennies on Lego.
I got told by a member of staff in the Meadowhall Lego store when I bought Ecto 1 that most ideas sets only get a 1 year production run, ecto 1 got extended because of the GB firehouse set that came out this year, I don’t know if that’s true but it’s what I got told.
This is a great Lego gift for Minecraft fans, though once assembled, it doesn’t have any moving parts (as most of the Lego City sets do, for example). It wasn’t too difficult to put together, but my 6-year-old, who has built many larger Lego sets, got bored with building it after not very long. It’s composed of lots and lots of tiny pieces, and for kids, anyway, I think the constructing of it is a bit tedious. I finished it for him – I actually enjoyed the tedium – and it sits on a shelf in a place of pride, but doesn’t get played with much because like I said, it doesn’t do anything. I would recommend for older fans of both Minecraft and Legos (maybe 8+?), but not for fans of only one or the other.
After binging on Legos for many years, I’ve come up with the best Star Wars sets out today. I’ve used my own experience for the basis of my lists but have also scoured the web for reviews, input and ratings and combined them all for your easy consumption.
That’s a great deal, I got mine from Target too, and it was $29.99….was yours an online return? Because when the someone returns an item they bought online, the price is epically reduced, even if it is pristine condition.
Buildable LEGO® BrickHeadz construction character featuring Captain Phasma™ has authentic details from the blockbuster Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie, including iconic First Order Stormtrooper armor and helmet, buildable cape and a detachable blaster pistol.
Have pieces but don’t know which kit it is from?  If you think they came from one household then chances are that you have lots of the pieces of that kit.  If so, then just go to this LEGO Building Instructions page, punch in some keywords and see what you can come up with.  Maybe you’re only missing a few pieces and it might be fun to build something this way.
But there’s much more than just Star Wars selling. A look at the best-selling kits on BrickPicker shows trains, play houses, dinosaurs, Harry Potter sets, Back to the Future Deloreans and Pirate sets all featuring.

  1. My son found the Lego City Police Station at Goodwill for $39.99 and it retails for over $100, so of course I let him get it. The good thing about this particular Goodwill was that they let us open the box to make sure all the pieces were there. I also for the Ningago (sp?) sets at the same place. I also we have been able to score sets after Christmas on clearance at Wal-Mart.
^^ Since Lego did tell us, which sets are going to retire “soon”, it seems they want to sell us their left over stock as fast as possible, creating an extra demand while still having lots of boxes. And with the last box sold, the set is retired. So there is no “date”, I guess. It had been the same with the Exo-Suit.
If they re-release sets that gained worth, that won’t do them a favor i think. Some sets i only bought because i hope they gain worth. If they start re-releasing everything good, i won’t do that anymore.
The UCS Sandcrawler was just released two years ago! I think that UCS sets should stay around for at least 4-5 years so people who don’t have $400 right away can save up. As for the others, I don’t have WALL-E yet, so I might need to act quickly (even though my brother has it). Thanks for the news!
