The Lego community needs a company to track theme and set popularity like They do for network tv. Then we could have a bubble watch for themes or sets that are hovering on the abyss of discontinuation. :o)
The pneumatic elements are most commonly used to resemble and take the function of hydraulic cylinders in appropriate models, actuating a digging arm or crane, for example. They can, however, also be used to build a pneumatic engine, which converts air pressure into rotary motion using the same principles as a steam engine. However, the cylinders are not optimised for this purpose, and such engines tend to be slow and lack power unless the cylinder inlets are enlarged.

That said, if you have the time and can split the box out by category (be it Star Wars, pirates, Medieval, Technic or whatever) these smaller – more specific – bundles will frequently sell for more than a job-lot of unsorted bricks.
Here’s a rock solid storage box made from solid hoop pine. No chipboard or plywood here ! There’s 2 drawers that you can either slide out, or you can lift the lid to access your stuff. Will it fit ?? Dimensions are .. 1300 mm long x 520 mm wide x 420 mm high. The drawers are 530 mm wide x 430 mm deep x 260 mm high. It’s quite old, and you’ll note that the drawers are dovetailed together. The rest of the construction is solid – great if you move a lot. Has many years to go yet. There’s a few scr
I think I’m going to have to go with Lego Millennium Falcon – UCS [Star Wars:Ultimate Collector Series:Star Wars Episode 4/5/6] – BrickLink Reference Catalog even though there are many other retired sets I like very much.
Ah, no wonder why those 3 modular sets have been going up in market prices. Where I live, their prices at least doubled from their suggested retail prices. You’ll still get ripped using the auction sites, thanks to the shortage of supplies.
Here is a job lot of all 12 of the Lego Star Wars planets sets. All the planets and mini models are 100% complete. However, the minifigures are only present for two of them – Sebulba, and the droid R4…
Thanks to its 3,104 pieces, most of which are the exact same shade of grey, the Ultimate Collector’s Series version of the Imperial Star Destroyer is pure evil as a piece of design. The Emperor would be proud. It comes with a 16+ age tag, and isn’t for the feint of heart. And since it’s been discontinued for quite a while, it’s also impossibly expensive. This is one for the only the most die hard Star Wars fans.

A very small subtheme of Town, Houses incorporated older sets of houses and buildings, like 6592 Vacation Hideaway into a new subtheme. However, the theme was the only 1991 subtheme not to continue another year.
Using these, it was possible to make the Generation 1 cylinders pull down as well as push up, however the pulling wasn’t as strong as the pushing, and this prompted Lego to redesign the pneumatics into an easier-to-use and stronger system.
If you already own other sets it can house parts of those, too, including a dock for the Batboat and a repair bay for the Batmobile. This super interactive set (number 7783) can be found on Amazon for $686 . Something this popular (and discontinued) doesn’t come cheap anymore!

From my experience with LEGO, I don’t think they’d go so far as to make more copies of the set if it sells out within a “reasonable” amount of time from the discontinue date– they’d just say “sorry, sold out” and be done with it. If (say) 10211 sold out in July 2013, I expect they’d just end it there– they wouldn’t do another production run just so they had some available through the “discontinued date” of December 2013. But if they ran out in (say) February 2012, maybe they’d consider doing another production run, since it would be nearly 2 years away from the expected discontinuation.
Pet Shop (set number 10218), released in May 2011, is the sixth set in the Modular Buildings series. The set contains 2032 pieces, was priced at MSRP US$149/149€, and is recommended for builders 16 years of age or older. It is the first set in the series that is actually made out of two buildings that separate using the same Technic pins that link the rest of the modulars together. They can be reversed or separated and wrapped around another building. The brown building is a Brownstone style town house with elevated ground floor (atop a crawl-space below); and the sand blue building is the Pet Shop. The brown building is the only building, with the exception of Market Street, that has a basement. There is a special feature on the Pet Shop on the ground floor, where the staircase can be folded away for more access room for playing (this was an issue with Market Street). There are 4 minifigures, 2 parrots, one dog, one cat, and a fish tank with goldfish. The set also includes 3 dog bones, a ball, a frog toy, a birdhouse, a bucket and a brush. Until the Brick Bank, this was also the shortest set by height and stands at just over 25 cm. The next tallest modular is Market Street at 33 cm.[17] The set includes a full interior including a toilet, bed, kitchen and fireplace.
So my question is, should I pass on this theme as a whole, or jump in right now and start relocating my assets to get the three sets that are still out. How many people out here are collecting them and how many pass them up based on price or lack of interest? Again I don’t have many city sets, (currently the only city sets I have that are complete and constructed are the City Small Car (3177), and Camper (7639)). But then again, it would be an excellent display for many Collectible Minifigures, which I collect avidly.
Just like with Lego’s Architecture set outlined above, the Creator Expert kits are a series of Lego sets that sets their sights on recreating cars and other real-world items inside of a Lego universe, complete with the same amount of care, quality, and technical specification we’ve seen from other Lego sets. If you’re more of a car enthusiast than a history nerd, you’ll want to check out Lego’s line of vehicles within their Creator Expert series. There are plenty of choices here to choose from, but one of our favorites just so happens to match a classic Italian sports car, the Ferrari F40. This is a set designed to catch your eye and hold it, especially if you’re a fan of European vehicles. Lego’s built car sets before, but none of them have been quite as well-built or cleanly-constructed as what you’ll find in the Creator Expert Ferrari F40 kit. Let’s take a look.

Lego, like any company, has to periodically thin their line in order to make room for new sets. Production of parts can only occur at a particular rate and if too many sets are in production, they can’t meet the production of them all. Additionally, there’s only so much life that molds have and some sets which use unique molds are not likely to be continued beyond the lifespan of the mold. Once it breaks, they have to weigh the time and cost of replacing them to the time and money they will spend doing so as opposed to the money that could be made making a new mold for a new set altogether.
My grandson, six years old, put this together by himself, these toys add so much to children’s lives. It gets them off of the computer and building with their hands. He is six and is able to follow the directions, I think following directions is a skill that many children miss in their younger years. These toys are good not only for their dexterity it makes them think about what comes next.
My boys have spent hours playing with this set in the bath! They have loads of fun and use lots of imagination. They did break it into a few pieces after having it in the tub a few times, but that is to be expected. We just fix it real quick and it is ready to go in the tub for some more fun. You get so much with this set. There is a large Coast Guard boat, a helicopter, a patrol boat, a submarine, a lighthouse, 6 minifigs, a dog, a crab, and 3 sharks (awesome fun in the tub). If you are considering this set, just buy it! I can’t imagine anyone being disappointed in this amazing Coast Guard set.
Below is a list of LEGO sets that are at risk of retiring soon in and around the 2018 calendar year. It is organized into sets that are at a high risk of retiring soon, medium risk, and low risk. Note that LEGO retirement dates are not an exact science and all sets that have been available for sufficiently long can be discontinued at any time, with no notice. The Architecture Eiffel Tower presents a moderate level of challenge suitable for the amateur builder, and completing it results in a charming conversation piece you’ll enjoy showing off for years. It’s also a great model to build along with your kids.
My grandson requested this for his 10th birthday and stalked the mail carrier until it came — lucky for Prime it was quick! He loves it…and now his cousin wants one. Legos are cool because the kids have to follow the pictured directions and if they don’t follow a process their results aren’t what they want. They have to back up and see what they missed. That practice is a good one for any child to learn and good developmentally for mathematics and science. At least, that is what I am telling myself….cause he doesn’t care — he just loves his Legos and I am just fine with that!
Wow you guys put out some really good arguments. At first I was getting a lot of talk about skipping it, but I think as this topic took off a little more the fans for the sets started being heard. I’m definitely leaning towards getting them now, but it’s still not set in stone yet. I would really like to get the Grand Emporium, it just seems like so much more fun, but I understand the Fire Brigade will probably be the first to go, so that’s the one I need to buy ASAP.
I have only bought new modulars for list price, so I can’t advise too much here. Which modulars will you be bricklinking? I imagine that CC, MS and GG will be incredibly expensive no matter how you get them since I have heard that some of the parts (I think the blues in CC and the sand green in GG) are quite expensive. I seem to remember people saying it is cheaper to bricklink though.
This Lego set is not only one of the top runners as far as expense is concerned, but it is also one of the best and well-sought Lego sets because it’s so symbolic of what everyone wants – freedom. Adult Lego collectors want the freedom to relish in their love of crafting, and building things, they believe, represents their values – the adult-level appreciation of things such as freedom, as well as the childhood wonderment of creating something from nothing that’s so spectacular and momentous.
