The Town Hall (set # 10224) is the largest set of all of the modular buildings. It is also the only one which includes an elevator which is a lot of fun. The inside is fully decorated with a Mayor’s office, board room, town hall meeting area etc. for a lot of fun Lego role play! This one may have a bit of a “boxy” feel from the outside but the interior is fabulous. I especially love the bride and groom complete with wedding photographer!
The set does have a lot of play value, again making it better suited for kids than adult Lego fans. The submersible robot and helicopter are both sturdy builds and fit well on the boat (which transports them). The lighthouse is grossly, hilariously out of scale, but I won’t complain about a blue plate getting tossed into this set. The minifigs are pretty standard, though I like the radio headset the one Coast Guard minifig wears.

The Super Star Destroyer is a massive Lego set with 3,152 pieces and five mini-figures including Darth Vader, Admiral Piett, Dengar, Bossk and IG-88. You’ll spend most of your time building the interior structure of this ship (which in the end you don’t even see), but the results are an extraordinary detailed rendition of the massive ship from the Star Wars saga that measures almost 50-inches and weighs almost 8 pounds. The Super Star Destroyer sells for $399 US.
In the meantime my daughters report card was sent home from school so I bought the Tower Bridge instead for her!! Her and I enjoy many hours together building big Lego sets! She is 10!!! She does the majority of the construction. I sort the parts and locate the parts she requires to build next! Fun!!
A set is made for about 2 years, then that stops, then it all depends on how quickly the existing stocks sell out.. usually it is 3 years total from ‘release’ to ‘cannot find them from Lego’. There ARE exceptions of course, such as sets made for specific stores, such as the Limo and City townhouse. At least in the States the Limo with chopper was out for an astounding handful of months even though Europe had them for about 6 months before, and then it was only Lego and Walmart selling them..

The Lego community needs a company to track theme and set popularity like They do for network tv. Then we could have a bubble watch for themes or sets that are hovering on the abyss of discontinuation. :o)
Particularly with Lego sets, these manipulative tasks were easier to follow when first done by someone else, rather than simply reading instruction booklets. This is beneficial for the brains of both children and adults, developing new ways of learning and quicker ways of processing instruction.

Lego, like any company, has to periodically thin their line in order to make room for new sets. Production of parts can only occur at a particular rate and if too many sets are in production, they can’t meet the production of them all. Additionally, there’s only so much life that molds have and some sets which use unique molds are not likely to be continued beyond the lifespan of the mold. Once it breaks, they have to weigh the time and cost of replacing them to the time and money they will spend doing so as opposed to the money that could be made making a new mold for a new set altogether.
This is the original Batcave from 2006 and it’s still a fan favorite, for good reason. It has a total of 1,075 pieces put together to create Batman’s famous headquarters, including Batman’s costume transformation chamber, a fire-able Bat-Signal cannon, Robin’s jetski, the Batblade ice sledge, and The Penguin’s submarine. It also has a whopping 10 minifigures: Batman, Robin, The Penguin, 3x Penguin minions (which are literal penguins), Mr Freeze, Mr Freeze’s Henchman, Bruce Wayne, and Alfred.
While some do not consider it to be a true part of the modular buildings line, due to the fact that it was a fan created set, 10190 Market Street is an official LEGO set that interconnects with the other modular buildings in the series. With only 1248 pieces, it is the smallest modular building and this, combined with the fan created nature of the set, has led Market Street to be ignored by some collectors. Nonetheless, the rarity of this second entry in the modulars line has made it very valuable.
It looks like an RV. This isn’t one of the blocky, square, thrown-together-in-eight-steps vehicles I remember from my childhood; this is a vehicle that you’d be excused for mistaking it as real at first glance. The lines are fluid and very RV-like, and the decals not only match the green and dark tan lines on the sides but look like they could very easily be the decals gracing a real-life RV. The hanging side mirrors are also a very clever touch. But, for all its realism, it hasn’t lost any playability. I would have loved this set as a kid. The side swings open and the top pops off for ease of play, the canoe fits securely on the top, and I absolutely love the design of the double bed in the “back”. The cab can easily be modded so that the driver is on the right side instead of the left, for our fellow LEGO fans across the pond. As you can see in the photo I’ve uploaded, all of the canoe paraphernalia (the oars and lifejackets) fit easily in the roof compartment. (My set came with three oars instead of the expected two, I suppose in case I lost or broke one.) The canoe itself is also extremely well manufactured — a solid block of plastic, it’s shaped like a canoe and is very sturdy, not flimsy at all, and could easily fit three minifigs instead of just the included two. Speaking of minifigs, the included couple is cute, with very attractive “outdoorsy” outfits and dynamic facial expressions.
The minifigures are worth the price of this set alone. The Penguin is of course cool, and he comes with an umbrella and a little detonator for the dynamite, but I think the unique scuba Batman is the best part of the set. He comes in a navy blue batsuit with a harpoon gun and a scuba tank. His face is also two-sided; one side has his normal Batman face while the other shows him with a diving mask and respirator, and it looks really neat under the cowl.
Head out to the lighthouse quick with the LEGO City Coast Guard Patrol! There’s a couple stranded in a sinking dinghy and 3 sharks are swimming nearby! Launch the submarine and helicopter from the Coast Guard Patrol boat to get there fast. Rescue the couple with the life preservers, pull them into the helicopter and scare the sharks away with the water cannons! Includes 3 sharks and 6 minifigures with accessories: pilot, captain, crew member, rescuer, man and woman.
The F40 is more of a collectors set than an actual toy to play with, making it ideal for adults to destress and decompress with Lego sets after a difficult day at the office. Unlike the Capitol Building set, Ferrari’s F40 probably isn’t so much a learning experience to share with your children, though if you’re looking to teach your children about the history of non-American sports cars, it’s an excellent entry and might interest the racecar lover in your life. We really love the F40 set from Lego; it’s small, but complex enough to keep you busy for hours and hours. It doesn’t come at a cheap price, but if you can afford to drop a pretty penny on Lego sets, this is a fine one to add to your collection—or to gift to the gearhead in your life.
This LEGO Creator incarnation of London’s Tower Bridge is an absolute beauty. And with it’s 4,287 pieces and moving parts (the bottom bit of the bridge opens up, of course), it’s definitely not a walk in the park. It does come with a cute little London bus, though, and promises one hell of a sense of achievement to any who manage to master it.
Just something that’s always made me wonder. The Technic figures from the Competition line and other Technic sets were very good figures IMO. They had great pose ability for the time and they acted as your pilots for you Technic vehicles. I know some later Technic sets could have been better with a Technic figure added. So why did Lego stop making them?

If you haven’t checked out Lego sets since you were a kid, you might be pleased to know they just aren’t for children anymore. Just like puzzle sets, there are a ton of Lego sets that are created and reproduced for a teenage or adult audience, those capable of handling the small details and thousands of pieces included in each set. These aren’t small, hundred-piece sets: they’re incredibly challenging, with long manuals and tons of pieces. Some are incredibly difficult to build without the focus and attention that comes with adulthood, while others include pneumatics and other moving parts that are challenging to children to create and enable. Some of them are even themed to suit adults, those of us who have interests in cars or architecture.
Pegs – Pegs are small cylindrical pieces that latch into holes in beams. The two most common types of pegs are called connector pegs, which join two beams together. Black or blue connector pegs hold the two beams together stiffly, while grey or tan connector pegs form loose hinges. Pegs have also been seen in System sets.
