If you recall, the September LEGO Store Calendar mentioned two exclusive sets that were slated for early VIP release from September 14 to 30. We now know that the first is the highly publicized UCS Millennium Falcon (75192), while the second is the LEGO Creator Expert Winter Village Station (10259). The latter is the fifth holiday-themed, D2C Creator Expert set to be released by LEGO, following the likes of the Winter Village Market (10235), Santa’s Workshop (10245), Winter Toy Shop (10249), and the Winter Holiday Train (10254). read more

Welp, time to bite the bullet on the Ewok Village. Both it and the Sandcrawler are 12% off on Amazon. The Sandcrawler is still a better buy (over 3000 pieces vs. the Ewok Village’s not-even-2000), but the Village seems to be more playable. Honestly, I’m a little surprised the Ewok Village was still around–didn’t it come out in 2013?
Lego employee here. If you have a Lego store near you, look at the price tags. If it has the top left corner cut off, it’s going to be retiring soon from our shelves. It’ll be available online and then discontinued for good after that. Hope this helps!

For example I read that LEGO City set are number one in Europe, while in the US the top sellers are Star Wars and Ninjago. LEGO does have to take these things into consideration, otherwise they could end up with huge stocks of sets just sitting in one region, when they could easily sell them somewhere else. And when they do end up with extras in an area, it makes sense to just sell that stock locally at a discounted price, rather than shipping it half way around the word. So there is a lot of logistics involved. It is not about not treating customers equally, even if sometimes it feels that way. 🙂

Mark had reluctantly agreed to go to the flea market with his wife, as he hated the miles of walking and browsing through junk that he did not want did not thrill him. As they strolled along, a box sat in the corner caught Mark’s eye, and then he saw a rare Lego Mr. Gold figure. Quickly hustling into the stall, he grasped the figure in his hands and offered the vendor 50 cents for it. The vendor agreed and sold the rare Lego minifigure to Mark. Returning home, Mark was fascinated with his find, but still not thrilled with the miles of walking. Then, he had an idea. Instead of going to flea markets in hopes of finding Legos to add to his collection, he could search on eBay. When he did, he found many reliable sellers offering rare Lego minifigures, pieces, and bricks with convenient shipping options. The best news was that he did not have to walk miles to find rare Lego sets and figures.
Our house is swimming with LEgos. a lot of times when my girls see a new set they really only want the minifigures. SO i buy just the minifigures of bricklink and they are thrilled. I save money and they are happy.
Ewok village is not a ucs kit. Why do people say these kits are ucs just because they are £200 If it does. It have a ucs label on the box it’s not ucs. The 10 part number association stopped in 2014. Ewok village is such a good set though.
After reading a couple of interesting posts I thought I would toss my own thoughts on what the Lego.com retiring soon moniker means to me.  To me this is definitely going to be the bane of the secondary market in time.  It indicates to everyone interested in Lego that their time is nearly up to purchase particular sets.  It also indicates to resellers that the time to buy is now.  I’m sure there will be the usual procrastinators inside of there yet, but I think overall less.  I think that for every one person who buys one knowing that a set will soon be retired there will be another reseller buying two of them to hopefully sell to the person that missed that time window.  If Lego stays on top of and consistent with their labeling of sets ‘retiring soon’ it will definitely start to take the steam out of the secondary market and make buying and holding a regular occurrence with the majority of sets.  (this is not meant be a bubble thread)  I apologize in advance if it somehow evolves into that or an ethical debate.  Overall this doesn’t bother me, just one of those things I’ve given a moments thought to.

Fair enough, and before the internet I think that would be a valid point. I personally cannot see how paying more makes collecting more fun? Its not like you work harder (other than for your money) to buy it. Instead of buying from one web site you just buy from another.
“With the soar in popularity of Lego with both adults and children, the effect on the values of both rare, hard to find sets and new releases has been incredible,” said Bev Channell, event director for Lego event BRICK 2015, running at Birmingham’s NEC this week.
