Once upon a time, I bought a HUGE bin of used LEGOs for just $25 dollars.  It must have been over 15 lbs. I was so happy.  It was disgustingly dirty though… I had to wash them three times in my tub. The previous owner had a cat and I’m allergic.  That was hard.

What sets are the pieces from? – If you know your pieces came from specific sets, mention this in the description. If you have any instruction booklets, these can be a clue as to where the parts came from.
Thanks so much for posting this. We have many Lego fans here at our house. I was so stuck on what sets to get for my girls and many stores are sold out on the sets my girls want and Amazon is charging way too much. Sad. So, I was glad to read your tips so off we went to the Lego store to pick up bricks as well as ordering a book through your link. Thanks for the help.
The catapult is shaped like a dragon. Push on the head, and the tail flings a brick. This catapult is much easier to operate than those included in the previous Kingdoms set (outpost attack), the brick flies about 3-4 feet without much effort.
The interest has not waned in our home. My older boys invest in discontinued sets and have successfully sold for profit on eBay. (In case you didn’t know, investing in Lego is more profitable than buying gold.) While we were watching Ghostbusters the other night, FishChick9 pointed out the new Lego Ghostbusters set. Sister, I am not spending hundreds of dollars on one Lego set.
We have strong reason to believe that LEGO 75060 Slave 1 UCS has a high risk of retiring soon! If, like you were at elementary/primary school when you first saw Star Wars then there’s a very good possibility that, also like me and my peers, you grew up playing with LEGO. My bedroom floor was literally carpeted with LEGOs, and I built makeshift dioramas out of it so that I could create some of my favorite moments from the film(s) with my Star Wars action figures from Kenner/Palitoy.

Also, when it is a line of products people who got into the game late will want to purchase the earlier models. If you just found out about Fire Brigade and Emporium, you looked into it and found out about Cafe Corner being an earlier set in the line, you’d might really want to get one.
@ suckerpunch83 is right. All sets made by TLG are in production long enough everybody who wants it can get it. There is and always will be a problem with “my personal demand/my finance ratio” and even welthy people can’t afford to buy all sets they want. In polish language there is proverb “life is an art of choice”.
LEGO® will relaunch one of the largest sets ever in time of the holidays.  It will be released as set number 10256.  It will sell for $369.99 and will have the same number of pieces as set 10189 released Read more »
Decide how much you are willing to spend on each lot.  If the lot includes minifigs, estimate the figures at $1 each (general minifigs resell for approximately $3).  If the lot includes castle minifigs or Star Wars minifigs, figure the price higher.  Calculate the rest of the Legos at about $8 to $10 per pound.  If it includes Star Wars or Castle specialty pieces, the price will be higher.  Just look at other auctions that are about to end and you’ll see what the going price is.

If they re-release sets that gained worth, that won’t do them a favor i think. Some sets i only bought because i hope they gain worth. If they start re-releasing everything good, i won’t do that anymore.

Then there are the seller fees on eBay . And the shipping costs – remember, Lego is bulky and could cost quite a bit to ship. And if you’re selling to a collector, they’ll expect it to arrive in good condition, so packing costs go up again.

  1. Making the list as one of the 7 most expensive Lego sets, this stunning model of the Eiffel Town was released in 2007 and is built to 1:100 scale from the original blueprints. This set includes realistic and enchanting features and details such as a flag at the top of the elevators, four lifts toward the bottom of the tower that transport figurines from the base to the center section, and a small, brick-built French flag. It holds the record for the tallest Lego structure produced into a set and contains over three-thousand pieces!
What do you think? Have you considered piecing together retired LEGO sets? Or have you done it already? What was your experience? Are there any other tips I haven’t mentioned here that you would like to share? What retired LEGO set would you really like to get? Feel free to share in the comment section below! 😉
Fantastic set. I love the creator line for their versatility. I remember old Lego products having ‘alternate’ configurations in photos on the box/instructions, but no instructions on building those variations.
