One thing I was impressed with this set while building is how large and simple the pieces were, and how straight forward construction was. Compared to say, set 9474 Lord of the Rings Battle of Helms Deep, this set was downright easy. Other than having to tie one knot and also decorating several pieces with a sheet of stickers, I’d say that younger children (ages 7-8) would have a pretty easy time putting the rest of this set together. Having put together this set, I’d say this is a very good value.
Hopefully this overview will get you organized enough to start on that dream LEGO set you never thought would be possible to get. It can be a long road to see the fruits of your work, but when all is done you have the added accomplishment of knowing how much work went into the project. To date I’ve assembled two LEGO Modular Buildings I missed out on when they were originally released, and I’m currently working on a third. I’ve also completed a handful of old LEGO Castle sets.
Im not sure whats going on, i think they are updating the website. Like the LOTR section doesnt have any of the old sets, the hobbit and other themes have zero listings lol As of last night orc forge was still listed as retiring soon and was “temp out of stock”

Yes, you can get lucky at thrift stores but you can really increase your chances by shopping Goodwill online!  I honestly don’t think you can get a better deal at buying used LEGO bricks anywhere else. For sure this beats many eBay offerings hands down.
For three years, my son has been asking for this Lego Set. My thought always was that it was way to expensive but I finally broke down this year after watching the price increase over the years. On Christmas morning, my son opened all of his presents and kept looking at the last box that was under the tree. It wasn’t big enough to be the Death Star that he wanted but I wouldn’t let him open it as “it was for later”.
If you ever want to feel like you bought a whole bunch of new LEGOs but you have no money, then just start sorting your current stash.  Do it when your kid is NOT HOME.  Why?  Like a puppy, he will hang around you trying to grab and start building and this will mess you up and you’ll snap at him.  Counterproductive.  Make it a surprise – I thought of you today- gift! I use Ikea GLIS containers but there are others such as: (Make sure they stack! Shallow is better for smaller pieces)

LEGO enchants many kids but not every kid. There might be someone willing to sell it to you or just give it to you if you just start a discussion in your online parenting groups about how you would like to buy affordable LEGOs.  If you are looking to give it to a classroom or community center, mention that in your query.    You never know… For us, we’ve seen a lot of generosity from fellow New Yorkers.  I’m so grateful.
This is one drawback of being the second child. You never have time to become gradually familiar with a building toy. There aren’t even enough simple bricks after you start buying set after set.  Instead you inherit of big mass from big brother and if you didn’t pick up the “LEGO language” quickly, well, then you need a translator!
They just don’t know where to look, you’ll be able to get a Slave I at least until the end of 2016. The only big ones that retired at the end of last year were 76023 The Tumbler, 10240 Red Five X-Wing, and 10188 Death Star.
We all know one proven way to invest in LEGO bricks is to look for big sales and great deals on LEGO sets that are still currently available at retail, then flip them several year later for a profit. Another great way to invest in LEGO bricks is to scour eBay and look for older and retired sets that are still having positive gains month after month and do the same thing. The trick is finding those older and retired sets without too much trouble. Here is our solution. Below is a list of the Top Performing “Old and Retired” LEGO sets over the past six months. All 50 LEGO sets on the list have been produced in 2008 or earlier. When displaying the sets from the USA eBay listings, there is a 20% range added to the current market value. For all other country feeds, the high price range is twice the current value and the low price range is half of the current value. When testing, this was returning some decent results. Our goal here is to help these top performing sets that are still consistently increasing in value and showing you current eBay listings within a close price range of it’s current market value. It is our wish that you utilize this data to diversify your Brickfoilio and to help you find some hidden gems that will make you some money in the secondary LEGO market.

  1. The golden jewel of any Star Wars collection. There isn’t many people that can proudly say they own this 5200+ pieces set. Mostly because it’s been discontinued for years now, but also because it’s resale price can very well go beyond US $3000.

You can safely mark this multi-faceted set out as ‘one for the future’. Combining bits from the that’s-no-moon space stations from both Episode I and Episode III, this incredibly popular Death Star includes a massive 24 ‘minifigs’, a multitude of moving parts and classic set-piece areas like the trash compactor and the Emperor’s Throne Room. A fan favourite which, if you do a bit of internet detective work, you can still buy for a reasonable sum – in Lego terms at least.
