LEGO STAR WARS 75034 DEATH STAR TROOPERS SET. – This set has beenOPENED, BUILT, DISPLAYED and DISASSEMBLED a few times over the years by anADULT COLLECTOR. I really loved building and owning this set,…
As your kids grow up, they won’t want to look at a house with 6 different color bricks but I don’t think they realize that this is why they aren’t satisfied with their LEGO stash.  This is one reason why they veer towards the kits.  Their tastes are more complicated. They want art!  But instead of crying as you buy set after set, try committing to a couple of colors and just keep buying those.  Get inspired by Nathan Sawaya’s Book: The Art of Nathan Sawaya or visit The Art of the Brick Exhibit at Discovery Times Square.  If you’ll be there on Sunday August 3rd look out for me!  Read more about Nathan Sawaya in my last post about LEGO Cuusoo and Small Yellow.

This is especially true towards the end of the year when many sets get put and sale and retired to give space for the sets of the new year. So let’s take a look at what is getting cleared out right now, and you can also use the links in the right-hand side-bar to check regularly before the end of the year. 🙂 Legos and Star Wars. Is there a more perfect match to be made in Lego licensing heaven? To many people, no, there isn’t as both long running brands bring to mind very specific sets of nostalgia. It is no surprise that Lego choose Star Wars as the first licensing set in their product line back in 1999 (it debuted along with Winnie the Pooh Duplo that same year). The original release coincided with the release of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Lego would continue rolling out sets tied to the latest movies while also producing classics from the original trilogy. The results are sets spanning eight theatrical movie releases (soon to be nine with The Last Jedi), and additional television shows. As far as licensed themes go, Star Wars has a long history in the Lego world. Lego Hero Factory Jetbug Set no. 2193 63 pieces. Suitable for ages 7-16 Discontinued set, released in 2011. Pick-up from Doncaster East 3109 or happy to post for an additinal $13.80 Thank That would be great, but I doubt LEGO would ever make it for the reasons you mentioned. Having said that, if a LEGO Ideas Hunger Games project would make it to 10,000, LEGO might consider a one-time set. 😉 Also be advised that some of these advertising partners may use cookies and web beacons on our site (when you click through). Start a High Speed Chase through the streets of LEGO City when the burglar escapes in his super fast sports car! He won't get far with the stolen cash when Chase McCain is on duty! Chase him with the Elite Police vehicle and Elite Police motorcycle!... more Built by LEGO Master Builder Erik Varszegi back in 2005 for the Star Wars Celebration III, the Venator Star Destroyer is a little over 8-feet long and 44-inches wide, weighing in close to 150 pounds. It was the largest LEGO model most had seen at the time, which means Varszegi had to use glue and incorporate a steel frame into the LEGO creation. But now six years later, another LEGO fan has built his own version of the Venatir, but with 100% LEGO elements and no glue. Talk about devotion! We all know which past sets have gone up in value.  We do enjoy the benefit of hindsight when it comes to the retired older sets.  But what are those sets shipping today that might go up in value I do not pay attention to it. When I think of retiring soon, I think that the set will EOL in the next week to month. From what I am seeing, Lego puts the retiring soon label just to sell more of that specific set, with no indication that the set will retire soon. Also, they keep the label on for forever. I have seen labels on some sets for months, and they say that the set is retiring soon. Let's rethink that. Hm… that’s an interesting point. And very well could be. I do remember hearing that LEGO will rename the Disney Princess line to simply Disney. Looks like this is going to be a much bigger theme for LEGO, not just pink castles for girls. I expect more awesome sets on the level of the Disney Castle. But we will see… 🙂 My two little sisters were looking forward to getting the Lego Friends hourse riding camp set, (the $100, whatever it’s called,) and so we were on the Lego shopping site, and I saw that it was on clearance for $49.99. And immediately I was like, “YOU…WHA-BUT YOU GOT IT SOOO GOO-” and then I realized it was sold out 🙂 🙁 . I was seriously considering picking one up for myself, for the pieces. If this fails you can consider your own swap options. This may include using smaller pieces in the case of replacing a large brick or using a more modern window that looks very similar and will only be noticed by those who are intimate with the set. Finally, you may try changing the color. The option of changing the color is a big one. If you are considering doing it, you want to look at all the other elements in the set that share that color. For example, I had the option of using sand-blue instead of sand-green in the #10185 LEGO Modular Green Grocer. It would have definitely been cheaper in certain areas, but there were pieces made in sand-green that weren’t made in sand-blue, so it became a less attractive option. Keep in mind that a full replacement is not always necessary. A good builder can fit in color-swaps very subtly. You will ultimately need to be the judge of how complete or modified the end model needs to be. They just don't know where to look, you'll be able to get a Slave I at least until the end of 2016. The only big ones that retired at the end of last year were 76023 The Tumbler, 10240 Red Five X-Wing, and 10188 Death Star. I was sorting through our stash this month and I was greatly disappointed in seeing how only a small minority of them are actual bricks. (Our stash weighs approximately 20 lbs!)  Really, it's embarrassing and moreover, it's frustrating because I have two kids at home, one who is quite LEGO proficient and the other is not so proficient.
