That said, if you have the time and can split the box out by category (be it Star Wars, pirates, Medieval, Technic or whatever) these smaller – more specific – bundles will frequently sell for more than a job-lot of unsorted bricks.
Most of the remaining Harry Potter Lego sets were apparently snapped up in stores during the Christmas rush, and now it’s hard to find Harry Potter Lego sets at a reasonable price. (Evidently, it’s not a new thing for investors to buy up collectible like this, and resell them online for two or three times the price.) What’s a geeky Dad to do? I want to encourage creative play and nurture her individual interests, but the prices of these hard-to-find Harry Potter Legos sets are eye-popping!
Four years later, Lego is still high on her Christmas list. I’m happy to contribute, albeit without spending inordinate amounts of cash. While specific sets are great, there are other ways to please your Lego-maniacs. Here’s how, you, too, can save some pennies on Lego.
Minecraft is an online sandbox a virtual world where the essential play is creative building with virtual cubes and its about learning skills and building craft tools and mining for gold and diamonds. The games is inspired by Infiniminer, Dwarf Fortress and Dungeon Keeper, created by Markus Persson, the founder of Mojang AB. The game involves players creating and destroying various types of blocks in a three dimensional environment. The player takes an avatar that can destroy or create blocks, forming fantastic structures, creations and artwork across the various multiplayer servers in multiple game modes. Minecraft was the fastest growing online game in 2012. Players can destroy various types of blocks in a three dimensional environment. Inspired by Infiniminer, Dwarf Fortress and Dungeon Keeper. Player can form fantastic structures, creations and artwork acrosss various multiplayer servers in multiple game modes. Minecraft promotes essential creative play building with virtual cubes. Due to it’s popularity and public outcry, this game has been “ported” to LEGO form, for even more enjoyment!
Value: I was happy to pay $34.99 for this set. For Minecraft fans, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. For Minecraft/LEGO fans, it’s simply a must-have. You get 408 pieces, which is about $0.085 per piece. For a licensed set, that’s actually below average. Of course, that’s probably because it relies so heavily on 1×1 tiles and plates. Still, you get eight 6×6 plates, quite a few bricks, and a brick separator. I thought the brick separator was a nice touch for separating all the tiny plates. There are only three exclusive pieces for the Steve and creeper heads. You get an extra Steve head, so if you add a red brick (or whatever color you want), you can make a second adventurer. To piece this set together on BrickLink dot com would cost about $50-$60.
as someone who got the rebel combat frigate, it isn’t that interesting of a build and would probably only appeal to die hard star wars/star wars rebels fans. the Asoka and Cmdr. Sato minifigures are unique to this set, but it’s also a $110 dollar set.
You forgot that the MechDragon is on sale. But then that’s not really retiring soon. What I don’t understand is why the V-wing, Vulture Droid, and AT-TE are retiring so early. The V-wing and Vulture droid are 2014 releases even! 😕 Not that I’m complaining, I have the V-wing already and my brother has the AT-TE, so we’re good.
➡ LEGO LEGENDS OF CHIMA SETS ON SALE: LEGO Legends of Chima is another theme that is getting retired with several sets on sale, mostly from the Fire vs. Ice conflict. Sets like the #70147 LEGO Chima Sir Fangar’s Ice Fortress, the #70135 LEGO Chima Cragger’s Fire Striker, and the huge #70145 LEGO Chima Maula’s Ice Mammoth Stomper, and there are many more. You can find them under the Sales & Deals section. BUY HERE
Yeah, I can imagine there’s gonna be a lot of these bigger sets on clearance this year. I actually bought the slave 1 during force Friday because the guy in the Lego shop heavily hinted it was going to be discontinued, and was considering the Temple of Airjitzu for the same reason.
Nothing gets us more excited then when LEGO announces a new Star Wars set. Okay, one thing does, and that’s a new movie announcement (which means more LEGO Sets!). With LEGO having built an Empire of collectible sets, it isn’t a wonder some of them are worth some serious cash.
If you are buying new, you can still reflect on the weight- a little bit at least. LEGO is so marvelously cute that it’s kind of deceptive how expensive they are – especially if you are buying sets!  Pound for pound, magnetic toys like Magnatiles (many moms will say these are pricey) are usually cheaper than LEGO sets.  Boxes of just bricks are cheaper (by the pound) but only by a little.
However, if you want just (1) set, this would be a nice one to get. Compared to the original Jabba’s palace, this set is much more sturdy. I would not let the kids play with the older one because it would probably not last long and fall apart. This set however survives a 3yr old very well.

My daughter is big into Minecraft and Lego’s, so for Christmas I was trying to get somethings that that would fit those two niches. This set has a lot of detail, Lego did a great job as usual translating Minecraft into the Lego world, although, I think that Minecraft being an 8-bit world is a natural. Putting this set together kept my daughter busy for a good chunk of Christmas day, and as a parent anything that’s not electronic that makes her use her brain, makes me happy. This is a high quality set that any Minecraft/Lego fan will be happy to own. I highly recommend.
Legos have come a long way from when I played with them as a child over 20 years ago. Another benefit of the new Lego sets is the separation of the Lego pieces in different numbered bags. The numbered bags allow you to build a portion of the set with only pieces needed for that portion related to the directions.
