You can also order individual bricks from Lego.com, but the wall in the store gets you a better price. Another option for bulk buying is to order on ebay or from sites like BrickLink. (I’ve not done the latter, so I can’t verify the success of that approach; please use caution in your purchases.)
The King’s Castle is a fun build appropriate for LEGO fans ages 7 to 12. Build it a section at a time, then put it all together. Then add the King, the White Knight, and the other mini figures to complete the model. Collect and combine with other LEGO Castle sets even more adventure. With weapons, multiple rooms to play in, and much more, the King’s Castle is the perfect place for adventure. This set comes with the King, the White Knight, two King’s soldiers and three Dragon soldiers. Set up the mini figures however you like and then it’s time to defend the castle. All LEGO Castle sets are compatible with all other LEGO System sets. The King’s Castle is filled with exciting places to visit and special features. Check out the towers, prison, moveable staircase, hidden escape door, weapon rack, King’s throne, knights’ table, battering ram/catapult weapon, and more. Extras make this set even more fun to build and play with, including two shields, a treasure chest, three swords, a spiked mace, an axe, a crossbow, and a bow with quiver.
Finally, at the risk of sounding like a shill for Lego, the Creator section of the Lego website has a nice collection of short videos that feature their own designers explaining advanced building techniques. These videos mesh nicely with this set.

Jabba’s Palace depicts the Star Wars scene where Princess Leia attempts to infiltrate Jabba the Hutt’s palace in order to rescue Han Solo, who is imprisoned in carbonite. It’s a well-done, atmospheric set that’s fun to build, with excellent minifigs and good playability.

Also on the way out is 75142 Homing Spider Droid, and while few will have rushed to pick up what was essentially a lazy repackage of 2013’s 75016 Homing Spider Droid, if you were eyeing it up then you may need to act fast.

If you find yourself in that position there are a couple of websites selling retired sets for way cheaper than eBay or Amazon. You can try http://www.chowrentoys.com in the US or Brick-a-brac-uk in the UK.
We all know one proven way to invest in LEGO bricks is to look for big sales and great deals on LEGO sets that are still currently available at retail, then flip them several year later for a profit. Another great way to invest in LEGO bricks is to scour eBay and look for older and retired sets that are still having positive gains month after month and do the same thing. The trick is finding those older and retired sets without too much trouble. Here is our solution. Below is a list of the Top Performing “Old and Retired” LEGO sets over the past six months. All 50 LEGO sets on the list have been produced in 2008 or earlier. When displaying the sets from the USA eBay listings, there is a 20% range added to the current market value. For all other country feeds, the high price range is twice the current value and the low price range is half of the current value. When testing, this was returning some decent results. Our goal here is to help find these top performing sets that are still consistently increasing in value and showing you current eBay listings within a close price range of it’s current market value. It is our wish that you utilize this data to diversify your Brickfoilio and to help you find some hidden gems that will make you some money in the secondary LEGO market.

Released in this year, the Super Star Destroyer is a classic Star Wars Ultimate Collector’s Series set that boasts a whopping 3152 pieces! It includes a redesigned IG-88 and Dengar and a new minifigure, Admiral Piett, along with a Darth Vader minifigure. Weighing in at 8 pounds, this set will definitely be a gem in your LEGO Star Wars collection…but it will cost you, as it’s selling for $500 and up!
Another tip is to create a buying guide Wanted List on BrickLink. This is a list you can alter as soon as you commit to purchasing an item, but you won’t adjust your main list until the item is actually received. Sometimes sellers mix up parts, or forget to include them in your order. With this system in place you can continue purchasing without the fear of duplication and still leave a way to make sure you haven’t missed any elements.
You can safely mark this multi-faceted set out as ‘one for the future’. Combining bits from the that’s-no-moon space stations from both Episode I and Episode III, this incredibly popular Death Star includes a massive 24 ‘minifigs’, a multitude of moving parts and classic set-piece areas like the trash compactor and the Emperor’s Throne Room. A fan favourite which, if you do a bit of internet detective work, you can still buy a reasonable sum – in Lego terms at least.
It’s free advice but make sure you do the math! You will hopefully have better luck than me because it is confusing!  Most sellers are pros but once in a while, you might get someone looking to unload a stash.  Be ready for that.
The amazingly detailed battle station features loads of moving parts and minifigs that will have your Star Wars heart racing with joy. And with 3803 pieces, you’ll be able to spend a lot of time and devotion to the ultimate Death Star playset.
For me, secondary market is a blessing. I have a chance to buy retired technic sets thanks to collectors and investors and i don’t have a problem with paying an extra cash for those sets i call it “delay tax” because i just came out of my Dark Ages.

“Note that this chart and the lists below contain large Star Wars sets that may not have been officially designated as UCS sets — such as 10188 Death Star and 10236 Ewok Village — but rather than debate the semantics of the UCS moniker, we have opted to simply include all large, exclusive Star Wars sets from 2007 onwards.”
You’ve put way more though into this than have. Since there is a lack of white bearded faces, I was considering Count Duku?’s face for president Snow. I got it some time ago but I can’t quite remember how and maybe use BrickForge hero hair in white.
First understand this is one of the single largest Lego sets ever…like actually. I think it ranks 4th or 5th in terms of pieces. The instruction booklet that comes with it measures about 13 X 18 and is about as thick as a lengthy graphic novel.

Also, the Architecture series is a great source of models to build from spare parts. The best example is Marina Bay Sands : I managed to build it for approx. $80, whereas it goes for $800 in the market. And it was delighful 😀
I bought this for my 11 year old grandson and he just loves it. It appears to be a challenge but not too hard and its large so it will take a bit of time to construct it. The characters are really cute. That ugly Jabba the Hut is a riot. I know its pricey but they do last forever. I think anyone who loves Star Wars will just love this addition. I heard that there is some controversy about the structure that this guy lives in but I didn’t see it for a moment. It just looks like a toy house that is typical of a Lego set. If you have the cash, buy it. I don’t think you will be disappointed.
Let me add one tip to your “Working around problem parts” paragraph that I learned way to late in the process : systematically download the instructions so that, when a hard-to-find-part related problem arises, you can locate in the instructions where the part is used, so you decide if you work around it or not.
