“retired lego sets 2017 new lego sets for sale”

As a fan, however, it’s very difficult to tell how well a LEGO set sells for the company. Just because the aftermarket cost is high doesn’t necessarily mean that there are a LOT of people still demanding a set for the MSRP.
Another important tip is to just ask for stuff they want.  Make sure you give the G-Parents the product number too.  Try looking up LEGO Creator House and see what happens.  Be kind and give the number.
Includes 3 minifigures: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jango Fett and young Boba Fett with mini legs, plus an R4-P17 Astromech droid figure. Features Obi-Wan’s Jedi Starfighter and a buildable hyperdrive. Jedi Starfighter features an opening minifigure cockpit, space for the R4-P17 Astromech droid top section (with storage space for the torso inside the ship) and 2 stud shooters. Hyperdrive features 2 spring-loaded shooters, big engines and a quick-release grab handle for enhanced play.
LEGO released their first entry into the Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series back in 2000 and found they had created a big hit with collectors and adult fans of LEGO. While those initial sets were not nearly as popular as the current UCS collection, it was enough to create a long running series of models with new releases every year. The popularity of the series has grown ever since and exploded in recent years. It has grown to the point that many Star Wars UCS sets represent the best LEGO investments, with even recent entries showing excellent growth after retirement.
When searching for bulk Legos for resale, do a search for “Lego pounds” or “Lego lbs” or “Bulk Lego”, etc.  If a lot looks good, check the seller’s feedback.  If it is 100%, mark the lot as an item to be watched (you’ll find the link in the upper right corner of the listing).  Once you have five or six lots, go to your “My Ebay” page.  The lots will be listed there.

Unfortunately I’ve never seen Legos sold (bricks or sets) at any garage sales or thrift stores around here or I would have snatched them up. My mother had saved my original set so we started with that. My daughter loves the little Lego Friends figurines. We’ve successfully bought a couple of times off eBay. I think only once was it missing one of the pieces (not evident unless you consulted the manual). Let friends know you’re interested in Legos – sometimes they’re downsizing and will hand them off for free or a great price. When you do have to buy new, watch for sales throughout the year; we snagged a larger Lego Friends set at Target way back in September. It was a one-day only 40% off special.
More Upcoming 2017 Retirements Revealed in the LEGO’s Europe Website https://retiringsets.com/lego-sets/more-upcoming-2017-retirements-revealed-in-the-legos-europe-website/ …pic.twitter.com/vtSlPxQK3z
I ended up purchasing a second set of the Pet Shop and I’ll be totally honest I can’t remember if I either had the idea originally or saw it on-line, but it can be fun to build the second apartment building as a mirror to the first one. Also a bit of a mind bender if I remember correctly! I have mine set up with the two doors close to each other but it’s certainly easy enough to switch them around if you prefer them that way.
They don’t always discontinue them– the best example I can think of is probably the Star Destroyer, which was around longer than LEGO initially expected, thanks to excellent sales. They offered it in catalogs from at least 2002 to 2007 (6 years). If they offered the UCS MF that long, it would be in catalogs until at least 2012!
It is 100% complete with all minifigs, weapons, and accessories, as well as the instruction manual. The cover to the manual has separated from the rest of the pages and some of the pages are “split” d…
As your kids grow up, they won’t want to look at a house with 6 different color bricks but I don’t think they realize that this is why they aren’t satisfied with their LEGO stash.  This is one reason why they veer towards the kits.  Their tastes are more complicated. They want art!  But instead of crying as you buy set after set, try committing to a couple of colors and just keep buying those.  Get inspired by Nathan Sawaya’s Book: The Art of Nathan Sawaya or visit The Art of the Brick Exhibit at Discovery Times Square.  If you’ll be there on Sunday August 3rd look out for me!  Read more about Nathan Sawaya in my last post about LEGO Cuusoo and Small Yellow.
“Holy Lego set, Batman!” as Robin would probably say following the purchase of this awe-inspiring Lego set. This Lego set is one of the best around, with an array of detailed pieces and intricate designs. Some of the pieces included in the set are Alfred the Butler, Batman (black suit), Bruce Wayne, Robin, Mr. Freeze (with complete weapon assembly), Freeze’s Henchman, The Penguin, Robin’s jet-ski, the Batblade ice sledge, and the Penguin’s submarine.
Printed parts-lists for a LEGO project are a great way to have an easy reference-guide to how things are progressing with your project. The list can be kept with the project and may make a useful guide when ordering. The printout can take any form you want, including Excel sheets or a printer-friendly version of the set inventory.
We are a company of Lego enthusiasts whose aim is to sell discontinued Lego products for the cheapest price that is possible. We often have some of the best Lego deals in the UK, especially on rare and hard to find sets. As we are collectors and huge fans of Lego ourselves, we are different to the large retailers who sell a variety of products. We have a passion for keeping our products in great condition and will never send out products that are not suitable to give as presents. We have been collecting Lego for many years now and our collection consists of the entire Lego Architecture range, VW Beetle, VW Camper, a couple of Ferrari’s, (Lego ones, not real ones), loads of Minifigures and much, much more.

If they re-release sets that gained worth, that won’t do them a favor i think. Some sets i only bought because i hope they gain worth. If they start re-releasing everything good, i won’t do that anymore.
I’m glad I got a copy of the pet shop before it retired. It’s so versatile even if you only have one copy of the set. I furnished the Brownstone house and expanded the apartment up top to have a twin minifigure bed and a bathroom with shower. Sadly you can’t modify the interior’s of the new modulars as easily without taking away original elements. I guess the top floor of the Parisian Restaurant can qualify as I turned it into a second apartment.

Judith, individual sellers could be getting their stock from various places. We do get regular sales on Dimensions sets – usually 50% off, sometimes more. Also, the dollar is pretty strong now compared to the pound, so there is that as well. I also shop from international sellers from time to time. European sellers usually have a much better stock on rare parts and colors. 🙂
This is not a set you could win in a card game, no matter how drunk Lando gets. It’s the rarest set in this or any Galaxy. Han Solo himself would need several weeks to build the 5,195 piece Millennium Falcon, even with the giant bound instruction guide. May the force be with you if you decide to add this ship to your LEGO Star Wars collection because you’ll need $10,000 to own it.
Boba Fett is, of course, one of the most iconic characters from the Star Wars series, quite amazing given his actual role in the original trilogy, he has taken on a folk status among fans.  Slave I is his ship and this Lego set is massive.  It’s got a bulk to it that even other large sets on our list don’t have.  It is 1996 pieces and the finished product feels incredibly sturdy.  Comparing it to the completed Tie Fighter, with its massive wings, shows a huge difference despite the sets being similar in number of pieces.  Slave I comes with four mini-figurines and a bonus Han in carbonite.  Boba Fett, Han (not in carbonite), and the Stormtrooper are all classic mini-figurines and great additions.  The final mini-figurine is a Bespin guard, fitting for the kit, but kind of a bland minifigurine within the Star Wars universe.  This set will take a few hours but remains a relatively straightforward build. The completed Slave I is one of the most eye-catching kits in the Star Wars series.  The bold green and red decoration stands at a stark contrast from the shades of black and gray most things in the Star Wars universe are comprised of.  A fun, extended build, a great massive, great looking final product, and fantastic mini-figurines, what more could you want?
You can search online for replacement guides for the most expensive sets, and you’re always going to find great tips. For example, most of the internal parts of the Millennium Falcon were some technic yellow parts, that were also created for other much common sets at the time. But now, those sets are scarce, so those yellow pieces (that you’ll never see) are pricey as hell. You can replace them by the same piece, but in another color, and you’ll save literally 150 dollars, in only 16 pieces.
The best performers in both cases are sets that are no longer in production – with the price of the Mirkwood Elf Army set up a stonking 110% in the past 6 months according to Lego investing site BrickPicker.com .
Dry the bricks. Optionally, spin the bricks in a salad spinner to remove some of the water. Next, place the wet bricks in a single layer on a towel, right-side up so water drains from the underside. To speed up the drying process, leave a fan on blowing over the bricks.

“rare lego pieces lego technic”

The pièce de résistance of the Lego Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series with a price-tag that beggars belief. Consisting of a whopping 5,195 bricks and weighing in at just over 10kg, the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy is the second-largest Lego set ever and is the jewel in the Lego Star Wars crown.
If you are like me, and have a lot of loose parts in your own collection that you want to use it putting together a set, the process can be daunting. So it is a good idea to first have your own LEGO collection sorted and stored property. Thanks to my wife’s help, our LEGO elements are sorted first by color then by part type. So a great way for me to start pulling parts for the project is to change the filter options on the BrickLink Wanted List to show by color rather than piece type. This allows me to work through several colors, then have the option of stopping at any time.
I’ve always been in 2 minds about the Sydney opera house, it just seems so expensive compared to Tower bridge and especially Big Ben both of which I have, they both have many more pieces for less money. I managed to get Doctor Who for £35 on amazon, I got Big Bang theory with VIP points, own ewok village and Wall-E. That leaves the sandcrawler which has never been a must buy like ewok village was.

Start at a reasonable price. In general LEGO buyers expect to pay between $4 and $7 per pound for loose used LEGO pieces including shipping. Clean lots with desirable pieces will often sell for even more. Start your auction at the low end of that range or below it. This will show your buyers you have done your homework and know what your lot is worth.
Imagine if LEGO gave every set a 1-10 rating indicating its potential as for resale investment and then sent you and email letting you know when a set is being retired and always did a 50% discount for retiring sets. that would be amazing and super easy right?! But then again if they did that everyone and their mother would be investing in LEGO. One of the reasons why LEGO still has investment potential is because its actually pretty difficult so 99.9% of America doesnt stand a chance and making a profit, unless they did a ton of research and even then you still need a “feel” for the LEGO market, and thats not something someone can be taught, its just acquired with years of experience.
I haven’t tried it myself yet, since my daughter is a little young for Legos, but I’ve heard great things about Pley. It’s a monthly Lego and Duplo rental service, kind of like Netflix for Legos. It could be a great way to try some of the cool sets before you spend lots of money on them, since we all know that just because it’s expensive doesn’t mean it will hold your child’s interest. It could also cut down on clutter, since you get to use lots of new sets without having to store the old ones.
There are a lot of reasons that LEGO might stop producing a set, and I would assume it’s a balance between the cost of doing production runs of the necessary pieces, the projected volume of sales, and their availability of SKUs.
When you have more than 50 sets, storage is a huge issue. Don’t be tempted to cobble together a solution. Start with strong shelving and new boxes to save lots of time and keep your sets looking good. Brook Johnson will show you how he stores his sets, shows you part of his Lego library, and tells you what is “retiring soon.”
The next resource I found is http://retiringsets.com/, just from a google search I did one day. It seems decent for gathering information on retiring sets from different country Lego stores, plus including their own thoughts based on past history. (Like with the Pet Shop expected to be retiring soon)
I bought this for my 11 year old grandson and he just loves it. It appears to be a challenge but not too hard and its large so it will take a bit of time to construct it. The characters are really cute. That ugly Jabba the Hut is a riot. I know its pricey but they do last forever. I think anyone who loves Star Wars will just love this addition. I heard that there is some controversy about the structure that this guy lives in but I didn’t see it for a moment. It just looks like a toy house that is typical of a Lego set. If you have the cash, buy it. I don’t think you will be disappointed.

For the Lego collectors who love Batman, this set is to die for because it includes more than figurines and vehicles. This set also comes with Batman’s high-tech Bat Cave features control center, prison cell, and rocket and net launcher as well as other working gadgets like the costume transformation chamber.
Now I know I said the project can move forward, however I like to do one more step just so there are no unpleasant surprises. This step involves taking a look at the parts in a set. For this I use the BrickLink. I click Catalog at the BrickLink website and then find the set by either browsing the categories or entering the set number in the search box. Once I find its page, I click on the View Inventory link. Seeing all the parts in the set laid out on one page lets me look for expensive and/or unusual elements. There are no prices immediately listed on this page and I doubt anyone wants to click through and see prices for each part, but I look for three main criteria: rare part design, rare part color, and large quantity.

Design: This set uses a modular design. If you follow the instructions, you get eight distinct modules, four above ground and four below ground. You can arrange these in dozens of different ways to create tiny cave networks and a multi-layered effect. The caves have several different kinds of hidden resources that you can only see when you take the top layer off. The overall effect of the design is a pretty good representation of the Minecraft world.

We basically have three options when a LEGO set that we want has been retired already. We can always pretend the set doesn’t exist and put it far out of our minds. The next option is take advantage of the secondary market like eBay, BrickLink, etc. You will likely find the set you are looking for, but unless you stumble upon an amazing deal, you will have to pay significantly more than the original price. This could mean having to wait longer to save up enough money for that retired set, and in the meantime you may also miss out on newer sets that you want. This can turn into a vicious pattern of always playing catch up and ending up spending far more than intended.
You can’t actually build your Star Wars Super Star Destroyer. These sets need to stay unopened and untouched to build value. And whatever you do, don’t stack them on top of each other—that will mess up the boxes. Creased corners mean lower prices. Stack them vertically as you would books on a bookshelf.

Also known as Dark Shark II or Black Skull, this Lego set is pretty detailed as the aftcastle can be accessed by opening its sidewalls as well as detaching a piece of the poop deck. @myscrnnm: On most tape-sealed LEGO boxes there is a printed production run code on one of the seals, XXS6 with XX being the week of production, with S being Europe and 6 being 2016 (or 2006). On glued boxes the code is embossed or, since recently on some sets, printed.

I have Lots of Galaxy Squad, Alien Conquest, and a few Ninjago sets, but my best ones are my Power Miner Sets. I have the Titanium Command Rig, the Underground Mining Base, Lavatraz, the Crystal King, and a few others. I mainly see these big ones (Command Rig and Underground Base) go for $200-$400 on Amazon and other places. I have them preconstructed with the instructions. However, I see them sold on Brian’s Toy’s for only $90-$100. Is that realistic? Please respond to this as I am BURIED in my sets and really want to sell them. Oh yeah, I also have the Indiana Jones Temple of Doom Set and the Lego MBA Level One Space Designer set. The Space Designer has all original pieces and content and the box, but it has been opened. Is that worth anything? Thanks, hope you can get back to me!
Surprising, almost two years since I originally write this post, Amazon.com still have sellers listing complete Harry Potter Lego sets. Some are still quite expensive, but others look more reasonable once you’ve done your research and seen the much more expensive and complicated options out there. There are little stocking stuffers like the bagged Harry Potter in the Lab figure that are reasonably affordable, and larger sets like some of the Hogwarts sets (beware, there are several that make up the complete castle) and others with many unique and iconic pieces (such as the Quidditch Match set) easily available.
The LEGO is an impressive pirate ship from Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean movie. It features a hinged bow section, opening skeleton hull with decay and destruction detailing, movable rudder, collapsible main mast, and two further masts. Other features include a long bowsprit with crow’s nest and mast, tattered sails, detailed quarterdeck, plus a rowboat with two oars. Weapons include two gray swords, three black swords, a pistol and the Silent Mary Masthead’s shield and sword elements. [ 332 more words ]
Sometimes small and simple can be good things.  This set is very basic, consisting of 282 pieces, many of which are minifigurines and Droids.  The set replicates the scene in Revenge of the Sith where Anakin is transformed into Vader.  The Emperor is included as a minifigurine along with Anakin, Vader, and two Droids.  This is a quick build, but the payoff is fantastic.  Getting to lower Anakin and flip the table over to reveal Vader is an incredibly simple, but fun moment to experience in the Lego world (manually adding his helmet in extreme slow motion is totally optional, but highly recommended).  What this set lacks in size and depth it more than makes up for in fun and cool accessories.
You can also buy Lego Harry Potter mini-figures individually on eBay or BrickLink if those are what the kids are really in love with. While one Harry Potter figure might still set you back $15 plus shipping (at the cheap end), that’s a lot cheaper than buying a whole set. Again, figures tend to be more expensive on eBay due to the auction effect.
Mark had reluctantly agreed to go to the flea market with his wife, as he hated the miles of walking and browsing through junk that he did not want did not thrill him. As they strolled along, a box sat in the corner caught Mark’s eye, and then he saw a rare Lego Mr. Gold figure. Quickly hustling into the stall, he grasped the figure in his hands and offered the vendor 50 cents for it. The vendor agreed and sold the rare Lego minifigure to Mark. Returning home, Mark was fascinated with his find, but still not thrilled with the miles of walking. Then, he had an idea. Instead of going to flea markets in hopes of finding Legos to add to his collection, he could search on eBay. When he did, he found many reliable sellers offering rare Lego minifigures, pieces, and bricks with convenient shipping options. The best news was that he did not have to walk miles to find rare Lego sets and figures.
Separate the pieces. Detach all pieces from each other unless they are stuck by grime. Set aside all pieces with stickers, printed ink, moving parts, electrical parts, or clear plastic. These must be scrubbed with a dry towel or alcohol wipes to avoid damage from the tumbling.
Why would LEGO discontinue sets that are still insanely popular? Example being the UCS Millenium Falcon. It would obviously still sell, look at the prices it is commanding online now. Seems to me LEGO is giving up profits. I know some people buy sets hoping the price will rise, and that is all well and good, but some of us just really enjoy assembling, displaying and looking at our collections. I am like a few others in here that have an entire room devoted to LEGO. I have sets I could sell but honestly I probably never will. I find myself alot just sitting there looking around at my sets and honestly it really relaxes me. Same with building. I am married and have 5 daughters…..yes….DAUGHTERS and when I am building I can just focus on that and ignore the chaos around me. It is very theraputic. Anyways, I got a little side tracked, as far as my original question does anyone know why LEGO would intentionally stop the most popular sets, and what are your opinions about this? Also, and I know no one can know for sure, but what do you think the chances are that they would ever re-release the UCS sets?

When you sell LEGO you basically have two options; you either do all the work yourself of taking pictures, advertising, packing, shipping, etc. or you have someone else do it for you. If you do it yourself you will maximize your profits, but it will also take up significant amount of your time. If you ask someone else to do it, they will have to do all the work of reselling themselves, so you can’t expect them to pay you top price.
LEGO® will relaunch one of the largest sets ever in time of the holidays.  It will be released as set number 10256.  It will sell for $369.99 and will have the same number of pieces as set 10189 released Read more »
This set contains 996 pieces, spread between 10 numbered bags and one unnumbered bag of base plates. The instructions are printed on three booklets, bound to a sheet of cardboard. No paperweights required. Also included is a sheet of stickers with brick patterns, as well as a sheet of malleable plastic with three flags.
Released in this year, the Super Star Destroyer is a classic Star Wars Ultimate Collector’s Series set that boasts a whopping 3152 pieces! It includes a redesigned IG-88 and Dengar and a new minifigure, Admiral Piett, along with a Darth Vader minifigure. Weighing in at 8 pounds, this set will definitely be a gem in your LEGO Star Wars collection…but it will cost you, as it’s selling for $500 and up!
“With the soar in popularity of Lego with both adults and children, the effect on the values of both rare, hard to find sets and new releases has been incredible,” said Bev Channell, event director for Lego event BRICK 2015, running at Birmingham’s NEC this week.

Lego discontinues sets for a lot of different reasons… Mostly because of demand for parts I am sure, they cannot thin out their lines to keep 1000 more sets in production, plus sets get old, they do.. most people buy one and they want to see the next one out.. therefore if they were to make more of them then no one would buy.. and no, only selling 3 sets to people over 1 year is not their idea of good sales…. Then they would need to list a lot of their warehouse for 50% off.. again not something they want to do…. I mean look at the steamrollers and pig farms, which would not die… I think the biggest reason is to keep the lines fresh.. not to mention sets can come back at times (see the Metroliner, Main street, Black Falcons Fortress and Guarded Inn and recently the Maersk Container ship).

Finally, at the risk of sounding like a shill for Lego, the Creator section of the Lego website has a nice collection of short videos that feature their own designers explaining advanced building techniques. These videos mesh nicely with this set.

Two Lego Mindstorms sets have been released before 2002. The first set featured R2-D2 which can also be converted into a Battle Droid on a STAP and a Treadwell droid. It is called the Droid Developer Kit and was Released in 1999, numbered 9748, and contains 657 pieces. The second set was an AT-AT which can also be converted into a Destroyer Droid and Droid Starfighter (walking mode). It is called Dark Side Developer Kit and was released later in 2000, numbered 9754, and it contains 578 pieces.
Four years later, Lego is still high on her Christmas list. I’m happy to contribute, albeit without spending inordinate amounts of cash. While specific sets are great, there are other ways to please your Lego-maniacs. Here’s how, you, too, can save some pennies on Lego.
Galaxy Squad, Alien Conquest and Ninjago are pretty common, so in used condition you might be able to get half of the original price. Right now Galaxy Squad is 50% off in most places, and those are brand new sets. Power Miners can get better money as it has some fans and it has been retired several years ago. Indiana Jones really depends on the set and the condition. Same with the MBA set. You can look at prices on eBay and BrickLink for comparable condition sets as yours and see how much they go for.
What about rebrickable.com? This can store your entire collection, tell you what pieces you have missing from any set and create a shopping list at specific brick link or brick owl vendors. Super handy!
Once upon a time, I bought a HUGE bin of used LEGOs for just $25 dollars.  It must have been over 15 lbs. I was so happy.  It was disgustingly dirty though… I had to wash them three times in my tub. The previous owner had a cat and I’m allergic.  That was hard.
I guess if I was a buyer I would focus and getting at least 1 of the bigger sets you want, regardless of the Price (although sites like Brickset help out TREMENDOUSLY in finding sales on sets at different places) and worry about the smaller ones later, that way if the smaller one sells out you have a good chance of picking one up for a decent price later (if if discontinued)
Great article !! I am currently awaiting for a lot of Bricklink orders to to be delivered, covering the building-from-spare-parts of… 2.5 modulars ^^” Those are Cafe Corner, right-half of Market Street and Fire Brigade (I already had a lot of Dark Red bricks and tiles so it was a no-brainer !). Thus, having spent a lot of time and money in the process, I can confirm absolutely everything I just read in this article 😉 From Wanted Lists tips to problems with parts, I went through all of it, so it’s very pleasing and reassuring to know that other people have experienced that.

Thanks for these tips for buying LEGO sets. It’s good to know there are sites where I can go to compare prices. I would like my son to have his own LEGO collection, so I should do this to find the best price for a cool set for him to put together.

Sometimes even LEGO fans would like to sell their LEGO collection, or part of their collection. This may be due to not having enough room, moving, financial challenges, loosing interest in the hobby (hope not!) or just wanting to free up room for new LEGO sets. 😉

Lego helpfully make all of their instruction sheets downloadable for free from Lego.com. (This doesn’t stop people on eBay trying to sell the instruction booklets for a  good price, however. Buyer beware!)  If you have a good supply of Lego bricks already, you could start by downloading the plans of a coveted Harry Potter set, and see how many of the pieces you already have. Probably most of them, but the colors might not be exact. But here’s the thing: don’t get caught up with being exact. Kids don’t let a desire for 100% accuracy get in the way of play. One of my daughter’s friends saw the multi-colored Hogwarts we built and exclaimed “A rainbow castle! How cool!” That reminded me kids aren’t as uptight as adults about collecting or having things perfect.
After reading a couple of interesting posts I thought I would toss my own thoughts on what the Lego.com retiring soon moniker means to me.  To me this is definitely going to be the bane of the secondary market in time.  It indicates to everyone interested in Lego that their time is nearly up to purchase particular sets.  It also indicates to resellers that the time to buy is now.  I’m sure there will be the usual procrastinators inside of there yet, but I think overall less.  I think that for every one person who buys one knowing that a set will soon be retired there will be another reseller buying two of them to hopefully sell to the person that missed that time window.  Lego stays on top of and consistent with their labeling of sets ‘retiring soon’ it will definitely start to take the steam out of the secondary market and make buying and holding a regular occurrence with the majority of sets.  (this is not meant to be a bubble thread)  I apologize in advance if it somehow evolves into that or an ethical debate.  Overall this doesn’t bother me, just one of those things I’ve given a moments thought to.

“lot lego lego chima discontinued”

So, if a lot of the elements are still being produced for other sets, that’ll bring down the cost. And similarly, if there aren’t many new products for a given year (new SKUs), it’ll increase the likelihood of an older product sticking around (LEGO has a limited number of SKUs available every year– effectively the barcodes for items).
I kept the enemy at bay for a long time. I was no stranger to stepping on sharp little pointy plastic pieces in the middle of the night; I had little brothers. So, I told my sons that we were not going to have Lego.

If you want to get rid of them fast, I would really suggest Craiglist first and be willing to take less. Preparing, listing, and selling items on eBay is a lot of work. If you have the time though, you can pace yourself and list 2-5 items per month. It may take you a year to sell everything, but you will get the best return. So it just depends. 🙂
The rarer a set, the more money it’s worth. But Lego can do another run whenever it feels like it. The new Cinderella Castle, which was released last month, is a good example. It’s a 4,000-piece set, based on the Disney Resort castle. It has all the makings of a great investment: big set, never before released, and inspired by a behemoth brand—Disney. “It’s a $350 set that may hit $1,000 in a few months because every little girl in the world is going to want to build Cinderella’s castle,” he says. “On the flip side, Lego may keep making them for 10 years.” No one ever knows what Lego is thinking, so you need to be comfortable with your investment.
I think this is mainly a problem with series like the Modulars. Relatively few people paid attention to the firs couple of the buildings, but when it became clear that it was going to be a series, people wanted to collect all of them, including the ones that were now retired. There are also new people who are just getting into LEGO due to the popularity of The LEGO Movie who missed out on some great sets. They can do as you mention, and just focus on the newest sets, but if it is a series like the Modulars and they really would like to have a full collection, their only option is to shell out $$$s or to piece together the set themselves.
Another theme that is retiring is LEGO Hero Factory, to give room for the return of LEGO BIONICLE next year. Most of the LEGO Hero Factory sets are already sold out, but there are a few left from the latest wave that you may want to consider. Even if you don’t want them for yourself, the mini heroes sell particularly well in the secondary market. You can find whatever is left at the Retiring Soon section of the Online LEGO Shop.
I put two Palace Cinemas on hold at my ‘local’ lego store. They still have alot left but i wanted two. One to build and another to keep for a couple years. I got to drive an hour and a half to my nearest store though.
As someone who’s just starting to get back into LEGO, this set hits all the right notes for me. Appeal to an awesome game, check. Lots of pieces not normally included in other sets, check. Modular and easy to display on my desk, check.
Poe Dameron is one hell of a pilot. And his Black X-Wing is one hell of a starfighter. Although this LEGO set design quite mimics the one of the X-Wing Starfighter (9493), it features the new “half-engines” of the new generation X-Wings and a different mechanism for the fold of the wings.
You forgot that the MechDragon is on sale. But then that’s not really retiring soon. What I don’t understand is why the V-wing, Vulture Droid, and AT-TE are retiring so early. The V-wing and Vulture droid are 2014 releases even! 😕 Not that I’m complaining, I have the V-wing already and my brother has the AT-TE, so we’re good.

“retiring sets _valuable lego bricks”

Below is a list of LEGO sets that are at risk of retiring soon in and around the 2018 calendar year. It is organized into sets that are at a high risk of retiring soon, medium risk, and low risk. Note that LEGO retirement dates are not an exact science and all sets that have been available for sufficiently long can be discontinued at any time, with no notice. ➡ ONLINE LEGO SHOP RETIRING SOON: While the US version of the Online LEGO Shop hasn’t been updated yet with sets retiring soon, the UK version lists a number of large and exclusive sets that are scheduled to retire. This means that once the current stock is gone, LEGO will make no more of these sets. Four of the sets are from the LEGO Ideas line, which are limited release to begin with. The four sets are: #21108 LEGO Ideas Ghostbusters Ecto-1, #21302 LEGO Ideas The Big Bang Theory, #21303 LEGO Ideas WALL-E, and #21304 LEGO Ideas Doctor Who. None of these sets are on sale, but if you want one, it is best to get them now before they will disappear and prices on the secondary market go up. You can find them under the LEGO Ideas section of the Online LEGO Shop.

Sometimes you may run into the issue with a piece that is just not convenient to get. Or it is possible that facing $3 per piece is bit hard to swallow. Thankfully there are a number of work-around solutions to problems like these. The first is finding if there is a part with a Matching ID (MID). If you go to the parts inventory of the set on BrickLink, parts with a MID have a mark in a column to the far right. This means that if you go to the very bottom of the inventory you can find parts that are slightly different (like they have hollow studs instead of filled or they have a few extra notches), but essentially they will look and act identical.
Fair enough, and before the internet I think that would be a valid point. I personally cannot see how paying more makes collecting more fun? Its not like you work harder (other than for your money) to buy it. Instead of buying from one web site you just buy from another.
Brick Fanatics is the website dedicated to all things LEGO, bringing you the latest news and reviews, as well as the best features and builds from the LEGO community. Brick Fanatics was formed by Richard Hayes in 2010 and is today owned and managed by Tiro Media Ltd.
Another tip is to create a buying guide Wanted List on BrickLink. This is a list you can alter as soon as you commit to purchasing an item, but you won’t adjust your main list until the item is actually received. Sometimes sellers mix up parts, or forget to include them in your order. With this system in place you can continue purchasing without the fear of duplication and still leave a way to make sure you haven’t missed any elements.
➡ LEGO ULTRA AGENTS SETS ON SALE: Yet another theme that is getting close to retirement is LEGO Ultra Agents. So far only a couple of sets are on sale; #70163 LEGO Ultra Agent’s Toxikita’s Toxic Meltdown, and #70161 LEGO Ultra Agents Tremor Track Infiltration. Both are great sets from the first wave of LEGO Ultra Agents, and it might be a good idea to keep checking if others go on sale as well. You can find them under the Sales & Deals section. BUY HERE

Build Quality: Pretty solid, I’m happy to say. This set does not sacrifice build quality for detail (which many LEGO sets unfortunately do). You may find that the tree tops pop off when you’re rearranging the different modules, but everything else sticks solid.

After calculating the price for the entire set, you can now order all the pieces by price so you can see which are the ones causing the greater damage. So, for my example, the UCS Millennium Falcon still US$ 3800. We’re now US$ 2600 down from the original price, but still, a lot of money.
They just don’t know where to look, you’ll be able to get a Slave I at least until the end of 2016. The only big ones that retired at the end of last year were 76023 The Tumbler, 10240 Red Five X-Wing, and 10188 Death Star.
Hm… yeah, for large sets like this it is a good idea to keep the boxes, but it is not necessary. If you bought the set for yourself and have no intention of selling it, there is no reason to keep the box (unless you really like it and want to keep it). If you do plan to sell it, it doesn’t make a huge difference in the resale price of a used set to have or not have the box. Most people will throw it away anyway.

There are some other odds and ends, but these are pretty much the largest and most interesting sets that are getting retired and are now on sale. Please note that sale items usually move very quickly, so if you want to grab them before they are gone, I would suggest you do so by the end of the week. It is also a good idea to check the Sales & Deals section of the Online LEGO Shop at least once a month to see if anything new is added.
3) Avoid generic kids’ stuff. Fire stations and police stations go on sale regularly, but Maciorowski warns they’re not typically investment winners. Steer clear of the Lego City sets, which are lemons. (Unless you’re five years old. Then they’re awesome.)
You can safely mark this multi-faceted set out as ‘one for the future’. Combining bits from the that’s-no-moon space stations from both Episode I and Episode III, this incredibly popular Death Star includes a massive 24 ‘minifigs’, a multitude of moving parts and classic set-piece areas like the trash compactor and the Emperor’s Throne Room. A fan favourite which, if you do a bit of internet detective work, you can still buy for a reasonable sum – in Lego terms at least.
At the end of the day, this is our website and our list, so our opinion had the final say.  However, we’d be fools not to use the opinions of thousands of other brickheads out there.  We checked out the set ratings from the top retailers and factored them into our ratings when necessary.  We weren’t going to have a strong opinion swayed, but if we were on the fence about any, we’d take those ratings into consideration.
Whether it’s Brian’s Toys, a friend, or someone who responds to your add through Craigslist who will resell the sets for you, they will have to have enough wiggle-room to be able to make the deal profitable and worth their time.

Only photographing your pieces in a box or plastic bag – You can include a photo that shows the pieces in a container or shipping box to give an idea of the quantity, but spreading them out so more pieces can be seen will add value.
This set has quite a few play features, lots of minifigures, a horse and a catapult. This set is straight forward to put together; younger children shouldn’t have too much of a problem with it with a little help from older siblings or a parent. At an MSRP of $99 with the large pieces it contains, this set is a good value.

Due to it’s popularity and public outcry, this game has been “ported” to LEGO form, for even more enjoyment!
The components come down to “what’s in the box?”  This is an important aspect of any Lego set, but arguably even more so in a licensed theme like Star Wars.  As a fan of the movies, you know the sets before you start building them.  Sets which have the perfect balance of nostalgia and just plain cool features will inevitably rise to the top for us.  For more info and reviews please visit our friends at Ninja Brick and read their Star Wars reviews.
My Uncle Pat, about 12 years my senior, gave me his original Lego set. (He regrets that now. Imagine what THAT would go for on eBay!) I think we only had a handful of colors, too, but those little plastic bricks provided hours of creative entertainment.

After years of “boy lego”, my youngest daughter has proven to be the true Lego fan in the house. About four years ago I set up the girls with heir own little collections of bricks. We had been at our friends’ house where the littlest FishChick played for two hours building with Lego! Two hours! She had never done that at home because I’d never set her up for it. Sure, the boys could do that all day long, but she’d never played with Lego. Weird, huh? The best part was that she was using her imagination and creating her own things, namely ice cream sundaes.
Even on eBay you will have several options, depending on how much money you hope to make and how much work you are willing to do. If you take apart the sets, clean them, verify all the original pieces are present, re-pack them into bags and the original boxes with original instructions, you can make significantly more than if you just take a picture of the bulk lot and say “what you see is what you get”.

Lego released a Friends theme tree house #3065 in 2012 that was a great set and, I believe, one that sold well. It was also a great price at 19.99. This set, 31010, costs a little bit more, adds a larger structure and has a more gender neutral color scheme. As a Creator set, 31010 has directions for three models (you build one at a time): the tree house, a waterside building with a small dock, and a two story barn-like structure. The set includes one mini-figure (a boy) with a walkie talkie, a frog, treasure map, and pizza. The tree house features a folding ladder (very nifty design), a tipper with “water” in it, winch with hook and trash-can, telescope, clubhouse with attic and lift-off top, bed, a hidden compartment (in the tree) for the treasure map, a brick-built wagon, and a brick-built dog. The waterside structure has a small oven with a lift-off top. The little barn features the winch.

A model like this deserves a great presentation. My first build was done inside a BiOrb (aquarium) and it was a challenge, but turned out really cool. The second build was displayed inside a terrarium from Exo-terra. The terrarium worked out much better. It has doors for easy access and interaction, and has space for the most important thing… A display turntable. Get one that can support about 7-10kg and has an AC adapter.
Also known as Dark Shark II or Black Skull, this Lego set is pretty detailed as the aftcastle can be accessed by opening its sidewalls as well as detaching a piece of the poop deck. You can also move the rudder by turning the steering wheel! One customer wrote, “…there is no set that can beat the Skull’s Eye Schooner.” This set is definitely in the running to be one of the best Lego sets because it has a plethora of cool features such as a compass next to the steering wheel and an odd postbox where you can find a glass and a gun.
I really don’t like what’s happened in recent years, Lego has gone from a plastic building blocks toy to a highly sought after collectors item and designer brand and hobby for the rich, especially when sets retire. I don’t like this investment culture where people who don’t even like Lego buy sets with the sole intention of making huge profits from Lego fans. I’m sure this practice must annoy lego too, maybe that’s why many sets are seeing longer production runs these days to give everybody who wants the set a chance to get one at the proper RRP.

Lego collectors who are interested in the best Lego sets that resemble such fantastic and historical monuments say that this set is a must have. One customer stated, “I’ve been a Lego fan since I was a child and bought this product the moment I saw it. It took about 10 hours to complete. The final product is very tall (box says 42″ tall, but mine measured about 45″) and absolutely beautiful.”

We have ZERO items in Sales & Deals here in the UK. The USA & Canada both have 37 sale in Lego online shop. Doesn’t really seem fair, that the rest of world cannot grab a bargain from the Lego online store. Really annoying, because at the end of the day all customers should be treated the same!!
A note on aftermarket sales: This set is incredibly popular. I imagine that LEGO was surprised by the demand. The aftermarket prices have come down to ~$60, which is still way to high. But that is how a collector’s market works. Lots of people on here are rating the set low because they paid 2-3 times retail for it, which is the buyer’s fault as much as the seller’s. Many people are also upset with the behavior of sellers who list these sets at high prices, which seems really weird to me. It seems like buyers who are willing to pay those prices should be happy for the fact that the sets are available at all. Buyers that pay that much and then get bent out of shape about it need to look to themselves. Prices go up on collectibles like this because enough buyers are willing to pay for it, simple supply and demand. If you or your kid is wanting this set, just sit tight. There will be more available at retail price soon. If not, just get some LEGO bricks in Minecraft colors and make your own. You’ll be a lot happier.

Another weird thing I noticed was that this set was never in stock in the 3 Lego stores in my area. I checked over a period of several weeks and never saw it once, even after the Rogue 1 sets came out. I ended up purchasing it via shop @ home.
The Holiday 2017 LEGO catalog has started to reach home mailboxes and there are many set that are listed as “Last Chance!” meaning that they will be probably retiring at the end of the year or shortly after. These are in addition to the LEGO Creator Palace Cinema (10232) which LEGO posted about before on social media a few weeks ago.
