LEGO’s 71016 The Kwik-E-Mart has been marked as Retiring Soon by LEGO Shop at Home Europe. This is a good indicator that LEGO will be retiring this set worldwide soon. This shouldn’t be a big surprise, as The Kwik-E-Mart has released… Continue Reading →
On a separate note, I was checking Bricklink for prices on the retired sets, and noticed the Pet Shop is up now, with two of the sellers being in USA. I guess that means its starting to hit the shelves and times running out!!

In October 2015, four new sets were released for Toys “R” Us Bricktober. They are 40141 – Bricktober Hotel (204 pcs), 40142 – Bricktober Train Station (180 pcs), 40143 -Bricktober Bakery (234 pcs), 40144 – Bricktober Toys “R” Us store (165 pcs). This time the base is 8×8 and 8×10 (and the boxes are thicker, but otherwise same size). As last time they each includes two vehicles.
Here’s a rock solid storage box made from solid hoop pine. No chipboard or plywood here ! There’s 2 drawers that you can either slide out, or you can lift the lid to access your stuff. Will it fit ?? Dimensions are .. 1300 mm long x 520 mm wide x 420 mm high. The drawers are 530 mm wide x 430 mm deep x 260 mm high. It’s quite old, and you’ll note that the drawers are dovetailed together. The rest of the construction is solid – great if you move a lot. Has many years to go yet. There’s a few scr
I’m not 100% sure that these discontinued sets are not overpriced. Now granted, they do have huge parts counts, and that is definitely going in their favor. But as far as rare parts and colors go… we’re never quite sure what the PAB wall at the LEGO stores is going to surprise us with.

This set is an overall great value from Lego. Also, it is one of only two corner buildings in the modular series so far, so if you want to make a square block, you’ll have to pick up a couple of these since the other corner unit (Cafe Corner) is no longer available unless you’re willing to spend $1,500+ on eBay.

#10251 LEGO Creator Brick Bank – released in 2016 – this is the smallest, weakest and least talked about set from the current line-up, so perhaps it might get retired earlier than the usual four-year run. It is still very nice though, especially on the inside, and it one of only three corner buildings.

nothing really strange about it, IMHO. Market Street was produced under the Factory line, and almost undoubtedly had a much more limited production run than the official LEGO-designed Modulars of the same timeline (CC and then GG)
One fun use for Bricklink.com is to get a bunch of different body parts and let the kids build their own characters. You can get torsos (the chest and arms) of Lego mini-figures wearing Gryffindor sweaters, Slytherin sweaters, generic Hogwarts sweaters, plain school-uniform sweaters, as well as quidditch uniforms. Add some male and female wigs (several should be red to become Weasleys), a few witches hats, brooms, wands, pets, and capes, and your child can mix and match to make most of the students at Hogwarts. You can also find Lego heads in a variety of darker skin-tones and create a Hogwarts that’s a little more racially balanced than the one found in the officially sanctioned Lego sets. (FYI, the Bricklink site is not the most user-friendly, so poke around for a while and set up a wanted list to help you source the parts you want.)
The main reason why sets like Cafe Corner go through the roof when discontinued is because no one buys them (mostly because of cost), they then get discontinued, then all of the sudden those who were waiting for a sale to get them cheap now need to go buy one, causing a price to raise…

“As with any sort of collectible, the safe storage of the collectible is very important,” Ed Mack explains in a piece on How to make money from Lego . “Although the actual Lego brick is pretty much indestructible under normal conditions, the Lego boxes and instructions need special care.”
Bought as a Christmas present for my grandson. He absolutely loves LEGO and has uncountable sets. He builds them as soon as he gets them and then keeps them built to play with. LEGO brand is wonderful. Everything I have purchased from this brand is excellent. Grandson is 9 years old and saves up his money and buys a lot of sets for himself. They are great teaching toys are pretty sturdy after being assembled, enough so that they can be played with. My other grandchildren play with them also (6-8 year olds), all except the four year old who is not careful enough with them.
It is no secret that other LEGO orientated fan websites comment on PC set in the similar fashion: as for the investment portfolio one has to take into account: a) its been on the market for such a looooooooong time.. b) RRP purchase price is quite low given the number of the bricks in the set.. c) it just “went off” (released) at the time when Town Hall retired and suddenly everybody realised the potential of modulars.. so sure.. buy it at all costs and hope that in 5-years future you would be still able to sell it at least at the purchase costs.. .. you cant be so naive as to think that this “piece of article” is some sensational investment tip, are you?? 😀
As is the case with virtually every Lego set, your child will be limited only by his, or her, imagination and perseverance. Although the kit is designed for younger children graduating from Lego Duplos, you can be confident that your child will never actually grow out of the Ultimate Building Set. All of the pieces can be incorporated into future Lego collections.

Batman is given a wide range of vehicles, their appearances resembling their accepted forms. Several vehicles, including the “Batman Dragster”, “Batman’s Buggy”, and “Bat-Tank”, have also been introduced. The Batmobile appears similar to the way it does in the 1989 film, while the Batboat takes on a hovercraft-like form. All the set-boxes feature a comic strip by artist Greg Hyland at the back, featuring stylized versions of the set in action.

My 6 year old son just had a major surgery, and so he got lots of “surgery gifts” after. This was one of them. He asked me for this because he is a huge lego fan. This set has a TON of pieces, but he was able to complete it on his own. The functionality of this set is really cool. Lots of moving parts, booby-traps, etc. I was playing with him and was enjoying messing around with all of the gadgets on this one. It also comes with several of the batman characters too. It will take a young kid about 2 hours to build, due to the amount of pieces. If an adult or older child helps you can probably knock it out within an hour. Very cool set!

I like the modulars, I think a lot of them look really great, but it comes down to the fact that I like other sets more. If I had an unlimited budget, I’d buy the modulars, but as long as I have to watch my spending I have to buy the sets I really, really want. And that means Star Wars, POTC, and other themes. However, I do guarantee you that if there is a modular police station, that will go on my list if it is well done, but I’ve got to pick and choose and these sets just didn’t make the cut since I am not building a town.
Wow you guys put out some really good arguments. At first I was getting a lot of talk about skipping it, but I think as this topic took off a little more the fans for the sets started being heard. I’m definitely leaning towards getting them now, but it’s still not set in stone yet. I would really like to get the Grand Emporium, it just seems like so much more fun, but I understand the Fire Brigade will probably be the first to go, so that’s the one I need to buy ASAP.
I bought this for my grandson, and my Son says he loved it, that they put it together in one day and he just thought it was the neatest thing. So this is great for any 6-7 year old as a gift. But best to have an adult to help with some of the harder parts. I have 4 Grandsons and all of them are in love with Legos so anything new they will just love.

My impression of the “discontinued” dates listed above is that they’re the projected times when the sets should be removed from the available inventory, assuming they haven’t already sold out. IE, if 10211 hasn’t already sold out before December 2013, that’s the date that they’ll remove it from the catalog regardless. And they’ll probably put it on sale X months before then to try and encourage it to sell out.

My solution to ensure some creative Harry Potter-themed Lego fun without breaking the bank has used all of the above sources. First, I showed my daughter the downloadable plans for all the Harry Potter Lego sets which gives her great ideas, and helps her build approximations of them with our old Legos (we have tons, including a lot from my own childhood — one of Lego’s many virtues is that it’s practically indestructible!). Then, I ordered some special parts and figures from Bricklink (spiral staircases, Gryffindor banners, the Fat-Lady’s portrait hole, chocolate frogs, etc.), scored one small lot of mixed Harry Potter Lego pieces at a reasonable price on eBay, and found the rest of the pieces we needed on the lego.com site (where we got a free gift). I then left it up to my kids’ imaginations to build their own Hogwarts. The colors might be a mixed bag, but all their friends ooh and aah when they come over, and I haven’t heard one word of complaint.
Market Street (set number: 10190) was the second of the Modular Buildings series and designed by Dutch Lego fan Eric Brok.[5] It was originally released as a follow-up to Café Corner in 2007 and priced at MSRP of US$89.[6] The set contains 1236 pieces and is recommended for builders 10 years of age or older. It was one of the first leading buildings. The set features include opening doors and windows, a gate, a striped awning, and 3 minifigures.[7] Advanced construction techniques used in Market Street include: curved staircases, “stripped paint” sections on the walls, interchangeable floors,[8] Dutch/Belgian stepped roof,[3] a basement, offset windows, and wrought iron-look decoration and gate.[9]

The set that started it all, LEGO 10182 Cafe Corner is a cafe and hotel combined into an attractive corner building. In addition to being the first in the series, Cafe Corner is also unique in that it does not have a finished interior like the other modular buildings. This has not affected its resale prices, however, as the exterior of the building more than compensates and being the first in a long line of in-demand collectibles has made 10182 Cafe Corner tremendously valuable.
Speaking of tough-to-tackle Technic kits, the Mobile Crane Mk II is hardly a cake walk either. This 2,606-piece set actually includes more than one challenge: It’s two models in one, allowing the builder to choose the big crane on the box or a couple of smaller ones. Again, moving pieces are involved as well as batteries. This is the type of set where one small mistake to could have you scratching your head for hours. What fun!
These sets are NOT overpriced. Most of these sets are constructed of rare bricks and colors. They provide a very fun building experience that is rivaled by few sets. These sets are not hollow, but are complete with interiors and with the latter sets being completely furnished.
Here’s one for the hardcore Marvel fans out there: A loving LEGO translation of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s trademarked Helicarrier, which clocks in at 2,996 pieces and comes with 5 Minifigures, 3 microscale Quinjets, 3 fighter jets, a gasoline truck, 2 forklift trucks 2 runways, 4 road blockades, and 12 tiny Microfigures. None of them, sadly, are Phil Coulson.

The Bike Shop & Cafe is a decent build from what I’ve heard. I helped build some of one set, but it isn’t mine personally. The cool aspect about this set is buying a few and making a whole apartment complex, think about the Brownstones in Harlem! Change the bike shop to a computer repair place.
The DC Collectibles Batman: Arkham Knight Action Figure is based on the designs of the hit Warner Brothers Interactive/Rocksteady video game. Perfect for the older kids to add to their collection, it stands at 6.75” and it’s highly detailed to suit the wants of super fans.
Pet Shop is supposed to be officially on sale tomorrow. The clock is ticking for the other sets. Since I already have one built of each…. the questions is how many of you who already one are getting a second Fire Brigade or Emporium?
The Modular Buildings series is viewed by Lego designers and fan sites as “toys for adults”.[10] Product reviews have been very positive with the biggest criticisms being price and degree of difficulty. With Café Corner, one reviewer complained that the interior of the building was bare of any finishing.[2] This complaint was addressed in later models such as Green Grocer, which had finished interior details included in each of its three floors.[10]
Why would LEGO discontinue sets that are still insanely popular? Example being the UCS Millenium Falcon. It would obviously still sell, look at the prices it is commanding online now. Seems to me LEGO is giving up profits. I know some people buy sets hoping the price will rise, and that is all well and good, but some of us just really enjoy assembling, displaying and looking at our collections. I am like a few others in here that have an entire room devoted to LEGO. I have sets I could sell but honestly I probably never will. I find myself alot just sitting there looking around at my sets and honestly it really relaxes me. Same with building. I am married and have 5 daughters…..yes….DAUGHTERS and when I am building I can just focus on that and ignore the chaos around me. It is very theraputic. Anyways, I got a little side tracked, as far as my original question does anyone know why LEGO would intentionally stop the most popular sets, and what are your opinions about this? Also, and I know no one can know for sure, but what do you think the chances are that they would ever re-release the UCS sets?
“With the soar in popularity of Lego with both adults and children, the effect on the values of both rare, hard to find sets and new releases has been incredible,” said Bev Channell, event director for Lego event BRICK 2015, running at Birmingham’s NEC this week.
From my experience with LEGO, I don’t think they’d go so far as to make more copies of the set if it sells out within a “reasonable” amount of time from the discontinue date– they’d just say “sorry, sold out” and be done with it. If (say) 10211 sold out in July 2013, I expect they’d just end it there– they wouldn’t do another production run just so they had some available through the “discontinued date” of December 2013. But if they ran out in (say) February 2012, maybe they’d consider doing another production run, since it would be nearly 2 years away from the expected discontinuation.
It is difficult to single out one LEGO set from the rest because the manufactured quality, effort, imagination and creativity are recognized in every single set, with no difference. In my opinion you cannot make a mistake, whichever you choose. I started bying LEGO sets long time ago and still, after all these years, I see that they preserved all the trademarks of their products and plus added some improvements over time. A job well done!
The hellicarrier is being retired soon as well. I’d also expect the Silent Mary to have a limited run and be retired next year. The Batcace which did not do as well is on its way out. And good bye to Hoth which was not well received. Additionally, Lego sold 16,000 UCS milleniaks Falcons within hours of the VIP release yesterday.
People also like to break up sets to sell the pieces individually on eBay, as they may make more money that way. The mini-figures are the most-valuable, some going for $40 each, even used! You might score a Harry Potter set for a (relative) song without any mini-figures, but your child might not be overjoyed, as the play value seems to depend on having the right beloved characters.
This was a gift for my son for the holidays and I am pleased with it. He enjoys legos and everything Batman so this was a clear choice when I needed to find stuff for him. This set was cute and I couldn’t find a similar one in stores locally so I was happy to find one on Amazon. My son and his father really enjoyed putting it together and my son still plays with it pretty frequently.

The Arkham Asylum Breakout set features so much detailed content, with a total of 1,619 pieces. It comes with a total of 8 minifigures: Batman, Robin, The Joker, The Penguin, Poison Ivy, Dr. Harleen Quinzel, Scarecrow and a guard, all with their own weapons, to play around in a creatively realized version of Arkham. It has the front of the Asylum itself, featuring some gothic-style decor, moss, vines, and ice elements for added effect, and a separate security gate.

Yes. I definitely think that the current price for CMF is higher than their intrinsic worth, therefore we have a classic bubble on hand. It will burst at some point. However, I think the S1 and even S2 figures, on the other hand, are not overvalued and were not overvalued during the original sale run. Since S1 and S2 saw shorter manufacturing runs, the figures are more rare. Also being the first sets of its kind provide the added value we see with such objects like a first edition book. When we got to S3, the levels of production increased making the items less rare. Pricing increased as well making purchase less compelling. If you’re looking at CMFs as an investment, I don’t think they really are anymore.
I thinking of getting the palace cinema, but, I already have the town plan set that came with a cinema in it and it works fine with what I have. I to am hoping that LEGO would drop there prices on sets alittle( or a lot) and that the sale drop would give them enough of a warning to scale back a little. Hang in there Admin, and yes it would be great for you to get away for A while . Be safe and my thoughts are with you.
Making the list as one of the 7 most expensive Lego sets, this stunning model of the Eiffel Town was released in 2007 and is built to 1:100 scale from the original blueprints. This set includes realistic and enchanting features and details such as a flag at the top of the elevators, four lifts toward the bottom of the tower that transport figurines from the base to the center section, and a small, brick-built French flag. It holds the record for the tallest Lego structure produced into a set and contains over three-thousand pieces!
This set has now been retired by Lego. The box has never been opened with tape seals intact as shown. Features of the Lego 10211 Set Up on the roof are a billboard and skylight! Grand Emporium feature…
The Architecture Eiffel Tower presents a moderate level of challenge suitable for the amateur builder, and completing it results in a charming conversation piece you’ll enjoy showing off for years. It’s also a great model to build along with your kids.

That said, if you have the time and can split the box out by category (be it Star Wars, pirates, Medieval, Technic or whatever) these smaller – more specific – bundles will frequently sell for more than a job-lot of unsorted bricks.

This was a terrific decision. Since then friends and family have seen the buckets of legos and have opted for the free play lego sets. It really is worth it. The sets are magnificent, but if your child is like mine and won’t dismantle a made lego set this is a great way to put the creative play back in the mix.

LEGO sets provide a terrifically challenging way to kill time. The challenges are endless, from the point of purchase to the finished product itself. Can you actually afford a big LEGO set? Can your patience handle the job of constructing it? Can you tell all the tiny bits apart? Can you resist a snooze on the sofa for long enough to finish the job? And, after all is said and done, can you find a spare inch of shelf space to proudly display the damn thing?
An absolute classic, the Grand Carousel consists of 3,263 pieces, and thanks to an in-built motor it can actually rotate. And it plays music while it does. It’s intended for aged 16 and up, and it would look great in any LEGO collection. Fun fact: It comes with an ultra rare extra large baseplate. What more motivation do you need?

Whether you have a child or are an adult enthusiast and collector, LEGO makes many sets and toys for all levels of builders. LEGO sets range in size from a handful of pieces to kits numbering in the thousands of blocks. LEGO toys cover a range of types, from buildings to ships to vehicles.
It’s hard to say what the new piece for 2017 will be. Recently, modular sets for a Library and Natural History Museum were shot down on LegoIdeas.com. Maybe because Lego has it in mind to make those types of buildings next? Also on Lego Ideas, a train station received 10,000 votes and is in the review process (although if approved, that probably wouldn’t be available until 2018). I think a Police Station makes sense, but there is already a lot of police themed lego pieces in the Creator series (plus cops aren’t really getting too much love these days). I think a church is too divisive. If you’re going to include a religious building (and I really don’t see Lego doing this), you’ll have to include a temple, mosque, etc. to be inclusive. I would personally like to see a post office, as many of the modular buildings have mailboxes built into them, and it would make sense to “connect” with that feature. Other thoughts, not on your list would be a restaurant row a side by side like the Pet Shop and Apartment Building) – one side a Japanese restaurant and the other a pizza place. Also, a Veterinary Hospital (although the Pet Shop covers the animal side of things) would be cool. Also, a Health Club/Gym, Dentist’s Office, Toy Store, Pharmacy, or Ice Cream Parlor are other ideas. I guess a Candy Shop wouldn’t make sense, if candy is “illegal” in the modular world (based on the Detective’s Office).

Attached are 2 pics of a Town Plan scale set that someone commissioned from me, using the Town Plan accessories as well as building scale. IMO, these were fun to build… didn’t take too long… and weren’t as expensive as new large sets are today. But that’s my biased opinion.
There are three versions of the pump. The old Generation one pump, the new Generation two pump (both of these are spring-loaded) and the small pump without a spring (designed for use with motors). The Generation one pump is red, while the Generation two pump is yellow and has a larger contact pad at the top of the pump. Generation three pumps are now available in translucent blue.
Mindstorms, a Lego line of robotic products, also uses a large number of Technic pieces, although it is sold as a separate line of products. The latest generation of the Mindstorms range, the Mindstorms EV3 range (released September 2013), as well as the Mindstorms NXT sets (released August 2006), are based on the studless construction method.
DUPLO: DUPLO sets are designed to get babies building from the age of 18 months all the way up to 5 years old. These LEGO bricks are much larger so that they are easier for little hands to maneuver and do not pose a choking hazard. Many of these sets feature character favorites like Cars, Disney princesses, and Batman.
But there’s much more than just Star Wars selling. A look at the best-selling kits on BrickPicker shows trains, play houses, dinosaurs, Harry Potter sets, Back to the Future Deloreans and Pirate sets all featuring.
Aye, Lego mateys! When it comes to purchasing this amazing ship, Lego collectors and pirate lovers are ready to ‘walk the plank’ and dive in. Released in 1993, this set includes a large three-masted pirate ship, nine pirate figurines, a rowboat, a shark, and much more. This ship is armed with four cannons that are mounted on turntables that slide from port to starboard. Included on either side of the poop deck are two smaller non-functional cannons.

Unfortunately, many of these are now retired so they are quite expensive to purchase and will only keep going up in price as the years go on. Even so, the Cafe Corner (the very first set) can still be found on sites like Amazon although you will be paying a pretty penny for it. However, sets that have just retired or are net yet retired (like the Parisian Restaurant or Pet Shop) are still very affordable. If you were to purchase these un-retired sets now and keep adding to the collection as new sets are released each year, you could eventually build quite an impressive city for just pennies a piece!
This a great toy for kids from ages 3 to 49. 49 year old like to put it together and the 3 year old like to move the pieces and it around. 3 yr old also finds it interesting, since when you pull it back it rolls forward. 3 yr old has dropped it a few times, but didn’t come apart like many of the other Legos (I don’t know why)
Of course, in the coming years we hope Lego adds many more buildings to this modular town as it is still missing many community basics, such as a library, post office, school, church, hospital, doctor/dentist offices, museum, police station, etc!

I cannot describe how amazing this model is once you’ve built it and have it in front of you. It’s outright imposing due to its size. While not to scale to the typical lego mini figure it exhibits exceptional detail and is an absolute looker. It is definitely one of the most amazing lego assemblies that are purchasable and it definitely looks more like a display show piece than a toy. With the easy to follow instructions it will take you around 8 – 10 hours, depending on how efficient you are in sorting and assembling. Some owners have complained about things falling off when they move it around but I think that’s highly exaggerated and should not take anything away from a 5-star rating since this model is mostly for display and not for actual playing (it’s not to scale anyway). It is mostly very well constructed with a solid base frame. But sure, if you play rough with it or apply pressure on the spoilers at the back or let your kids play with it, things can fall off.
The Lego community needs a company to track theme and set popularity like They do for network tv. Then we could have a bubble watch for themes or sets that are hovering on the abyss of discontinuation. :o)
Or you could do what I did. I am an overly avid castle fan. My wife helped build a few sets with me like the Medieval Market Village. I bought the Grand Emporium for her (she loves shopping). She loved building it and quite honestly I was astounded by all the intricacies. There is so much detail just to the Grand Emporium alone that I know we will be buying the others.
It may look simple enough on the box, but The Lord Of The Rings’ Tower Of Orthanc is actually a real tough cookie. Because most of its 2,359 pieces are jet black and slim, working out which bit goes where is the stuff of nightmares (in, um, a good way). The Treebeard that comes with it will make the struggle worth it… honest.
^ Fully agree about Jamie Berard’s skills, @Istokg – he’s about as close to a celebrity as it gets in the LEGO world ! I think he’s been responsible for all the modulars (with the obvious exception of Market Street which was actually a fan-designed Factory set I think), and he also designed the wonderful Tower Bridge set.
I agree, the date for Fire Brigade just doesn’t seem right. If it were following the trend of the previous sets in this theme it would discontinue around December this year. I would also think the Grand Emporium would discontinue in December 2012 instead of 2013 while the date for the Pet Shop seems correct.

This set has incredible detail, and is fun to build. I built this set (Dad), and each of my boys built the other two (Fire Brigade and Pet Shop) . The build was enjoyable, and it was fun to watch them come together. in fact, we enjoyed it so much, that we started building the sets on a Sunday morning together, and we all stayed with it until the sets were done a few hours later. It was a fun family project.
I think that the Mini Cooper 10242 maybey also not a redesigned box is. This is a box from 2014, but not the end of 2015 redisigned box. They has aslo no last updated box. Is this means, that possibly the Camper Van has still time to go, with a new redisigned box, and the Mini Cooper 10242 next year will be sold out first? Like first the 10234 Sydney Opera House going first quickly sold out and not the 10214 Tower Bridge. And the new 10253 Big Ben Creator Expert for 2016, confirm that one of the 10214 or 10234 is sold out soon, whit the 10234 first, because they has no new redisigned box.
Not to hijack the thread or anything, but Im wondering what everyone’s opinion is on putting these sets together piece by piece on bricklink. I’ve found that usually some of the more rare sets can be put together this way (if you dont care about the minifigs) at a reasonable cost. What do you think are the pros and cons of doing it this way?

Very small Lego kit. Seems pricey for what you get, but I understand that is Legos in general. Bought this as a birthday present and ended up having to purchase something else to go with it. Overall, a good gift or stocking stuffer for a Batman fan.
Although liftarms (studless beams) have been present in Technic sets since 1989, the change from primarily studded to primarily studless construction around the year 2000 represented a major paradigm shift and has been quite controversial. Initially liftarms were used primary as styling parts, or to create smaller sub-assemblies which attached to a studded chassis. With an increasing number of liftarm designs introduced, a tipping point was reached around the year 2000 with models introduced primarily constructed from liftarms instead of traditional beams.
Nice list, i’d suggest the grand prix racer (lego technic 42000) for the 7th spot. Can have power functions added to it but the main reason is just the thing being very detailed and close to 60cm long.

Okay, maybe I’m not understanding everything completely… I’ve been looking for 10199 winter toy shop… S@H doesn’t have it on their website, and it seems to be scarce online. The lowest price I can find it is $70 when the MSRP is $60. If it’s not “discontinued” yet, is it just sold out? And why doesn’t Lego carry it?
When a port is “open”, that means it is like an open tire valve; all the air will leak out as fast as it can. When a port is closed, no air can enter or leave that port. When ports are connected, air will freely travel through the valve between those two ports.
These modular sets also have eye appeal, which helps in their increasing value… but I’m always careful of new items as investments…. one has only to look at the very collectible Princess Diana Beanie Babies…. and their once high demand.
Now you need to go to File > Import > Bricklink Set Inventory. On Category choose [All Items] and on Filter type the Millennium Falcon set number 10179. BOOM. Done. You have a list with all the parts that form this set.

I don’t think that’s a real issue though. Technic figures (I have one..somewhere) could also be disassembled (iirc.. if not, mine’s broken) and could be shipped in his original parts. I don’t think it would be terribly expensive. I estimate the cost for TLG to be less than $2, more likely less than $1.
Like yourself, it is easy to look back and wish for the older sets (in my case the Fire Brigade and the Grand Emporium). But I look at it this way: The Pet Shop was my first modular and so my collection will start from there and I will buy everyone from there on “up”.
In addition to that, the police bike, SUV and the two new vehicles make it very effective. One particular feature that we loved was the McCain figure present, it was happy to see that children really appreciated and recognized a great hero.
lego said “”discontinued”” this means it will not be for sale on the lego web site after that date and if you wanted any of the sets the only way would be from retail shops that had it still in stock or auction sites like ebay.

The hardest part about the collection is obtaining the buildings that are discontinued. Most sets are discontinued 2-3 years after they are released. I was in a similar situation trying to obtain the Green Grocer and Market Street (already owned Cafe Corner). For both of these sets I used Brick Link to purchase each individual part and assemble the buildings. It’s a lot of work, but the Green Grocer set is now my favorite mainly due to the amount of effort I put into creating it.

The F40 is more of a collectors set than an actual toy to play with, making it ideal for adults to destress and decompress with Lego sets after a difficult day at the office. Unlike the Capitol Building set, Ferrari’s F40 probably isn’t so much a learning experience to share with your children, though if you’re looking to teach your children about the history of non-American sports cars, it’s an excellent entry and might interest the racecar lover in your life. We really love the F40 set from Lego; it’s small, but complex enough to keep you busy for hours and hours. It doesn’t come at a cheap price, but if you can afford to drop a pretty penny on Lego sets, this is a fine one to add to your collection—or to gift to the gearhead in your life.
This will be one of my favorites. I was unable to get this item from LEGO directly and I was very disappointed. I was looking for something else on Amazon and decided to look for the Mobile Crane on a whim. There it was and the price was not much above the original LEGO price <$20.00. Perfect. I has great engineering - the gear work is a marvel. I also enjoy the second item - the Reach Stacker - a lot of fun to build. https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/Hd8AAOSwQJhUc18k/s-l200.jpg?rqid=p2.8d1cc86c487b66a5de57&rqt=SRS&a=1&c=1&dealId=WUx7vOSfFHqaa_uuZZ4t0g%3D%3D&l=3033102&linkin_id=3033102&r=24&pr=24&dipr=1&pid=146948738&pdid=WUx7vOSfFHqaa_uuZZ4t0g%3D%3D I think the church would be to controversial due to the nature of religious groups feeling they may not be represented in a set, so I would assume they would not make a church building unless there were one for all of the major religions. also i think a museum would be a cool addition. The LEGO® DUPLO® All-In-One Box of Fun set has a whole load of DUPLO bricks for fun building and rebuilding for creative play. At its heart is a buildable wagon base with rounded edges and wheels that really turn. This comprehensive set also includes 2 opening… At 3,152 pieces, this Super Star Destroyer is an even larger undertaking than the Ultimate Star Destroyer we listed earlier. And given the thinner design of this one, you could argue that it's even more difficult to build. Again, the limited color palette makes picking the right pieces difficult, and the stark Imperial design makes the job at hand even harder. The set does have a lot of play value, again making it better suited for kids than adult Lego fans. The submersible robot and helicopter are both sturdy builds and fit well on the boat (which transports them). The lighthouse is grossly, hilariously out of scale, but I won't complain about a blue plate getting tossed into this set. The minifigs are pretty standard, though I like the radio headset the one Coast Guard minifig wears. Safety first. On the cinema, I think it looks better in build (love the roof) than in the picture. Also, how could one live as a Lego builder without “Forever Sorting” Lighting it up (BrickLoot) really adds a lot, too. The BrickLoot lighting for the bank really really makes the model, imho. And, no, I do not work for Brickloot, but I am really glad I decided to experiment with lighting Just something that's always made me wonder. The Technic figures from the Competition line and other Technic sets were very good figures IMO. They had great pose ability for the time and they acted as your pilots for you Technic vehicles. I know some later Technic sets could have been better with a Technic figure added. So why did Lego stop making them? Powered by eBay Blackthorne 04.10.043 My son wanted this set basically for the Chase McCain mini figure (considering the cost of this set, versus Chase McCain alone, this set was a better option), but the set as a whole is great. It was fun to put together and holds up really well. The cop car is great with the trunk that opens to store the cops "tools". Also the tire-stoppers are fun too. The only surprise here is that 2011’s Volkswagen T1 Camper Van was given the redesigned box treatment. It has been widely expected that this set would retire soon, and it still may, but an updated box does potentially indicate that there is still some time left on that set before it retires. The first dedicated Technic motor was a 4.5 volt rounded brick (p/n 6216m) released in 1977 as part of the Expert Builder Power Pack (960-1) and Supplementary Set (870-1), this output via a small protruding axle that would rotate when the motor was powered. The motor was not geared, resulting in high-RPM, low-torque output. Gearboxes and a square casing were available. A 12 volt motor of the same physical dimensions as the 4.5 volt motor was also available in set 880-1. The 12 volt version is visually distinguishable by being black, rather than grey. LEGO STAR WARS Millenium Falcon 7965 *Brand new sealed* This is an awesome set. Has been discontinued for a while so very hard to find these days. This is brand new un-opened MISB. Perfect for a gift for the star wars fan as it is still sealed and⁄or for the serious collector as the box is in excellent condition also. It was released available direct from Lego back 2011. This is a very cool classic set ~1250 pieces with 6 minifigures and super impressive large set when built. Lego descr So what can we conclude from this information, where we see some sets getting new, updated boxes and other sets continuing to use old boxes without the new Creator Expert logo? For the modular buildings collection, the box changes reinforce what we already suspected: 10218 Pet Shop is likely the next modular to retire. For the vehicles and landmarks lineups, we may expect 10220 Volkswagen T1 Camper Van and 10214 Tower Bridge to live on a bit longer, although any set that is as old as those sets should be considered at some risk of retirement. The biggest piece of information that could possibly be inferred from these box changes, however, is that 10234 Sydney Opera House could be a surprise candidate for early retirement. It’s difficult to know for certain if that will be the case, but that would be a huge, massively unexpected move that would catch many collectors and investors off-guard. In the recent past, large sets that retired unexpectedly, such as 10224 Town Hall experienced large, immediate gains in value. Could 10234 Sydney Opera House be the next set to do just that? That’s actually a really good strategy. While the modulars are some of the more expensive LEGO sets, you could technically all own the sets in the series free just by getting extra sets that you later resell. It was the first dedicated Lego theme that attempted to depict real-life contemporary efforts of space exploration. Prior to the theme's official launch in 1995, two sets were released in preceding years that are considered predecessors to the theme. Space Shuttle Launch, released in 1990, featured NASA logo, unlike subsequent releases. Shuttle Launching Crew, released in 1992, featured the characteristic "V" pattern seen on Launch Command sets released in 1995. The two shuttles released in 1995 were in fact labeled "2" and "3", leading one to believe that shuttle 1 was contained in 6346 Shuttle Launching Crew. I see they have the 1x2x2 (flat) windows... a variation of the old 1x2x2 classic window... and the 1x2x3 (flat) windows, which are the same scale as the old 1x2x3 (right or left) classic door. Because I have several thousand classic LEGO windows, and over 500 doors, some of the door handles have broken off, and it can be used just like the 1x6x3 Panorama window... the first image below shows a classic door, a panorama window and a classic door with broken off handle in the tobacco shop. This yellow building with blue mansard roof is reminiscent of what you would find in Paris. We'd be lying if we said this was our first pick for our favorite Batman-related set, but unfortunately, a large number of Lego Batman sets were discontinued before the release of this year's smash animated comedy "The LEGO Batman Movie." Thankfully, a number of movie-branded sets replaced them, and while most of them were aimed at children, we think the Batcave Break-In set is the perfect kit for parents and kids to build together. With over 1,000 pieces, it's a bit of a challenge for younger children to tackle on their own, but if they're big fans of the animated film, they'll love the task of recreating one of the scenes from the movie—and you'll love building it with them. With plenty of minifigures, accessories, and play-styles, this is one of our best picks for a set that balances complexity with play, making sure that even after the set is built, your child can still play around and recreate the adventures of Will Arnett's Batman right in your own house. If you're a fan of this Batman set, there are a ton of other Lego Batman sets that are guaranteed to create the same amount of fun and enjoyment in your child's eyes—and you'll have fun watching them learn how to build it right on their own. With the new Pet shop release, it leads me to believe either the Grand Emporium or the Fire Brigade will be discontinued soon. I was in my Dark Ages when the Cafe Corner and Green Grocer were released, but would see the other two on display and while I recognized them as beautiful models, I had no need for them (Being a castle/pirate and random good set collector). It wasn't till I realized these all could be combined to make an amazing street that I saw the value in these sets. [redirect url='http://Discontinued-Items.com/bump' sec='7']

Using the history of similar products, the previous retired Modular building sets hold their value very well. Examples of this include the retired 10224 Town Hall and 10197 Fire Brigade. With that said, Palace Cinema is definitely worth purchasing 10232 the Palace Cinema and this will be costly for missing out on this modular building set. Lego EXTREME!!! Tons of pieces make this an awesome build for the advanced builder in your house. The outriggers motorize in, out, up, and down. The boom motorizes on the telescope in and out with boom up and down. The block is motorized as well. Freaking great! Great birthday gift from the family!!

I was in a similar boat, ignored the early modular sets (partly due to price at the time despite thinking they looked great), and with the pet shop release have now decided to pass altogether – I would if i could, but i just don’t have the income to branch into this series, (in addition to Collectable Minifigs, OT Star Wars, probably POTC, and other ‘nice stuff’ such as some of the unusual Alien Conquest bits), AND chase the ones i missed. BUT my advice would be this: if you love the sets and you’re going to jump in, do so without delay, as you’ll only end up wanting the whole lot eventually. The longer you leave it, the easier it is to pass (as i have done much to the relief of my wallet) – but it will be that much harder to catch up if you change your mind.
Colethegeek…. when Brickworld (Chicago) had their first LEGO convention (2008?) a few years ago (I couldn’t attend because my mother was very ill)… I had one of the attendees ask the question (to Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen and the new LEGO President) about the very poor “System” in LEGO windows at the time… and the reply from them was that the LEGO design team had the same issue with the lack of usable windows…. and that they would be working on a system. So far the 1x2x2 and 1x2x3 flat front windows are the result… along with the back side of those “less than flattering” headlight bricks, which have already been out for many years.
In the meantime my daughters report card was sent home from school so I bought the Tower Bridge instead for her!! Her and I enjoy many hours together building big Lego sets! She is 10!!! She does the majority of the construction. I sort the parts and locate the parts she requires to build next! Fun!!

Whether you’re a huge Star Wars fan or not, the name “Millennium Falcon” has definitely crossed your eardrum. Originally a cargo vessel designed to lug around cargo until it was heavily, and illegally, modified to become the ship everyone now knows to be modest, but very powerful. For the Lego collectors looking for the best Lego Star Wars sets, this one is a steal. Many reviews of the product state that the finished product, “… looks exactly like the Millennium Falcon. Every little detail visible in the movie is present on the model.”

I honestly don’t think it’s an issue for you to start collecting modulars now. Personally, the best set they’ve released is the newest one, which is the Parisian Restaurant. It has the intricate detailing and the most interior decoration. I think LEGO will not want to give up producing modulars as they appeal to AFOLS, TFOLS, and kids. It seems they will keep introducing a new one every January for some time to come. The modulars are big and take up a lot of space (and collect dust once they been sitting out for a while). Hence, I have been picking up the ones that really grab me, as I figure if i buy every one that comes along, I will be out of space pretty darn quick (aka- I will have a crisis when I need room for Wayne Manor, the X-Mansion, a hospital, museum, and library!). When I got back into LEGO, the Fire Brigade was still available at S@H, but I passed on it and the other modulars until the Palace Cinema was released. The PC sucked me into the modular line. Not being a completist and not liking clutter, I have been very selective about which modulars I pick up. Right now I have the PC, PR, and Pet Shop. I say, just pick up the modulars that you absolutely love as they’re released (and to hell with second market prices on retired sets). If you really want the GE or TH, buy sooner rather than later as prices will continue to go up as time goes on. If you can live without the TH, just wait and I think another big modular that will tie your LEGO city together will appear somewhere down the line. In my opinion, it’s not worth giving up the modular building experience just because certain ones have already retired. Maybe I am just talking out my a@@, but that’s my long-winded 2 cents. Happy building. 🙂
NOTE: This set is retired and is no longer sold by LEGO. That means you’ll only be able to find this set available via the secondary market with secondary sellers. To keep things in perspective, the original retail price for this set was $79.99.

There’s a difference between boys and girls. Yeah, I mean, beyond that one difference. If you give male and female monkeys toys and you give them toy cars and dolls, the male monkey will generally start playing with the car, even if they have no proper understanding of what a car even is. It has moving wheels, it can be pushed down slopes, it speaks to the technical part of the brain. The female monkey will more likely pick up the doll. The “caring” instinct.
Fair enough, and before the internet I think that would be a valid point. I personally cannot see how paying more makes collecting more fun? Its not like you work harder (other than for your money) to buy it. Instead of buying from one web site you just buy from another.
If you haven’t checked out Lego sets since you were a kid, you might be pleased to know they just aren’t for children anymore. Just like puzzle sets, there are a ton of Lego sets are created and reproduced for a teenage or adult audience, those capable of handling the small details and thousands of pieces included in each set. These aren’t small, hundred-piece sets: they’re incredibly challenging, with long manuals and tons of pieces. Some are incredibly difficult to build without the focus and attention that comes with adulthood, while others include pneumatics and other moving parts that are challenging to children to create and enable. Some of them are even themed to suit adults, those of us who have interests in cars or architecture.
Head out to the lighthouse quick with the LEGO City Coast Guard Patrol. There’s a couple stranded in a sinking dinghy and 3 sharks are swimming nearby. Launch the submarine and helicopter from the Coast Guard Patrol boat to get there fast. Rescue the couple with the life preservers, pull them into the helicopter and scare the sharks away with the water cannons. Includes 3 sharks and 6 minifigures with accessories: Pilot, captain, crew member, rescuer, man and woman.
The prices may be steep, but if LEGO City is your thing, these building may very well be a perfect substitute as opposed to the entire City genre. And if you’ve got some real $$$, it’ll probably be wise to buy multiple of the same modulars – one for yourself, and the other to sell later at 2x $ so to “pay for” your first building through those profits.

I went to the new Lego shop in Liverpool UK today I asked if they had Lego fire brigade and they said it has now been discontinued and sold the last five this morning. LEGO released the first European gears in 1970.[2] At the same time, cross axles and bushes were introduced, which are still used in TECHNIC sets today. The first universal joint also appeared around this time.
My youngest child recently became a Lego fanatic (as am I). She was already enthralled by the Harry Potter books and movies, so the discovery that two of her favorite things were now combined (and just before Christmas, too) gave birth to a new obsession. Unfortunately, Lego stopped making Harry Potter Lego sets last year.
Everyone has different opinions, but I’d recommend starting withe the Pet Shop. It’s one modular that almost everyone really likes and as the oldest one out there, the most likely to be discontinued next. It also is probably the most versatile modular out there. It looks great with my FB and GE. It pretty much looks like it was made to go next to PR and I imagine looking really good next to the Detective Office too. Plus, you can split it up!
