Looks like I’m safe. Already have at least one of each of all of these, and have gotten a second of the ones I really like (e.g. Wall-E and Doctor Who). Surprised to see the Sandcrawler go so soon though (assuming it’s retired at the same time as the Ewok Village).

This is a great purchase. It didn’t take me too long to build it, just an hour or two, and it was bigger than I thought. It was fun creating the drawbridge and the steel gate, I think that this is a great addition to have.
LEGO has released several Imperial Shuttle sets over the years, with the current 75094 Imperial Shuttle Tydirium being the clear best, non-UCS model. This set will be retiring later in 2016 and is potentially one of the best non-exclusive sets to… Continue Reading →
Mark had reluctantly agreed to go to the flea market with his wife, as he hated the miles of walking and browsing through junk that he did not want did not thrill him. As they strolled along, a sat in the corner caught Mark’s eye, and then he saw a rare Lego Mr. Gold figure. Quickly hustling into the stall, he grasped the figure in his hands and offered the vendor 50 cents for it. The vendor agreed and sold the rare Lego minifigure to Mark. Returning home, Mark was fascinated with his find, but still not thrilled with the miles of walking. Then, he had an idea. Instead of going to flea markets in hopes of finding Legos to add to his collection, he could search on eBay. When he did, he found many reliable sellers offering rare Lego minifigures, pieces, and bricks with convenient shipping options. The best news was that he did not have to walk miles to find rare Lego sets and figures.
I got told by a member of staff in the Meadowhall Lego store when I bought Ecto 1 that most ideas sets only get a 1 year production run, ecto 1 got extended because of the GB firehouse set that came out this year, I don’t know if that’s true but it’s what I got told.
Our first entry from Rogue One, Krennic’s shuttle offers a fun build of the Imperial starship belonging to the most hated character in the great Rogue One movie.  Along with a great Krennic minifiguring, you get a K-2S0 droid, two Imperial Death Troopers, Pao, and Bodhi Rook.  The attention to detail on the minifigurines is great, the K-2S0 is a personal favorite.  Our favorite part about this build is that is just looks cool.  The design is a sleek, black pyramid shape which makes it stand out even among some iconic Star Wars startships.  Being able to move the massive wings is a joy.  The ship comes with a couple of spring loaded blasters which are always a plus in our book.  The build for this set isn’t terribly long, but remains fun.  Krennic’s shuttle might not be canon in the Star Wars universe, but this is a great set and worth checking out.
Put the pieces in a laundry bag or pillowcase. A fine mesh clothes bag will prevent the bricks from jamming the machine, and minimize damage to the bricks from tumbling, although scratching is still possible. You may use a pillowcase if you do not have a laundry bag, but make sure to close it tightly with a zipper or a rubber band.[4]
Our house is swimming with LEgos. a lot of times when my girls see a new set they really only want the minifigures. SO i buy just the minifigures of bricklink and they are thrilled. I save money and they are happy.
The famous Imperial Star Destroyer is by far an incredible vehicle and the Lego version is no different! It features 1367 pieces and a ton of minifigures like Darth Vader, Grand Moff Tarkin, Imperial Officer, two Stormtroopers, two Emperor’s Royal Guards, Imperial Astromech Droid, and Mouse Droid.
A great source of individual parts (new and used) is Bricklink, an online network of stores who sell Lego piece by piece, as well as some complete sets. You’ll find almost everything cheaper than eBay here.
Once upon a time, I bought a HUGE bin of used LEGOs for just $25 dollars.  It must have been over 15 lbs. I was so happy.  It was disgustingly dirty though… I had to wash them three times in my tub. The previous owner had a cat and I’m allergic.  That was hard.

“oldest lego star wars set _lego 10223”

Legos in a complete set, who knew?. We had Legos as kids back in the ’60s & 70s. We would buy the blocks in very small sets as our allowance would slowly accumulate. My younger brother over time made some absolutely incredible creations using a mishmash of block sizes and styles. We would have wet our pants with happiness to receive an integrated SET. And this one is fantastic, especially being a Star Wars fan, having seen the original Star Wars movie in college over and over again…. Well worth the cost, and glad I have this set!!
They even manage to maintain some minor level of screen accuracy (to reason of course). Many recall the scene from Star Wars (Ep. IV 1977) where Luke, Chewy and Han spring Leia from her prison cell aboard the Death Star then flee into the garbage chute, only to face the Dianoga and imminently collapsing walls of the compactor. You can recreate this scene exactly. And I recently discovered you can even throw the minifigures into the garbage chute and they will land in the garbage compactor. There is also a lever that then allows you to collapse the walls. There are even little bits of garbage and the dreaded Dianoga included.
This is a set to be coveted and one customer wrote, “The construction itself was not difficult (I am an adult), and the pieces in it are amazing. The jester heads and gold pieces alone make this set really fun. Add the power functions (this was my first power function set) and the music and it is unbelievable! The set is built so that when you turn on the motor and the carousel spins, the music will start by itself.”
Yes, the discount is basically 20%. That’s pretty standard when LEGO is doing a clearance. The only time I have seen them go over this (up to 50%) is the year-end sale. You do get VIP Points though too, so that helps, and shopping for discounted sets during the Double VIP Points period is even better. 🙂
Jabba’s Palace is the first Lego set I have purchased/used since I was a kid. I bought this for my 6 year old daughter because she loves all things Star Wars now. I was very impressed with all of the new engineered style pieces this set included. The engineering they must put it to these new sets is amazing. The play set can open/close by folding it in half. This is accomplished by an a few simple Lego pieces allowing for a hinge. This play set even has to portions that perform a sliding effect. One of the sliding effects is used to open the trap door in front of Jabba’s platform, like in the Return of the Jedi movie. The other sliding portion will push the Jabba platform forward. I was very impressed with the way these worked and enjoyed building them with my daughter.
“As with any sort of collectible, the safe storage of the collectible is very important,” Ed Mack explains in a piece on How to make money from Lego . “Although the actual Lego brick is pretty much indestructible under normal conditions, the Lego boxes and instructions need special care.”
Imagine if LEGO gave every set a 1-10 rating indicating its potential as for resale investment and then sent you and email letting you know when a set is being retired and always a 50% discount for retiring sets. that would be amazing and super easy right?! But then again if they did that everyone and their mother would be investing in LEGO. One of the reasons why LEGO still has investment potential is because its actually pretty difficult so 99.9% of America doesnt stand a chance and making a profit, unless they did a ton of research and even then you still need a “feel” for the LEGO market, and thats not something someone can be taught, its just acquired with years of experience.
What about rebrickable.com? This can store your entire collection, tell you what pieces you have missing from any set and create a shopping list at specific brick link or brick owl vendors. Super handy!
Another important tip is to just ask for stuff they want.  Make sure you give the G-Parents the product number too.  Try looking up LEGO Creator House and see what happens.  Be kind and give the number.
➡ LEGO NINJAGO SETS ON SALE: Getting ready for The LEGO Ninjago Movie sets means clearing out some of the old stock related to the TV show. You can find some really great sets on sale like the #70595 LEGO Ninjago Ultra Stealth Raider, the #70605 LEGO Ninjago Misfortune’s Keep, the #70604 LEGO Ninjago Tiger Widow Island, the #70603 LEGO Ninjago Raid Zeppelin and more. Jabba’s Palace depicts the Star Wars scene where Princess Leia attempts to infiltrate Jabba the Hutt’s palace in order to rescue Han Solo, who is imprisoned in carbonite. It’s a well-done, atmospheric set that’s fun to build, with excellent minifigs and good playability.

You can search online for replacement guides for the most expensive sets, and you’re always going to find great tips. For example, most of the internal parts of the Millennium Falcon were some technic yellow parts, that were also created for other much common sets at the time. But now, those sets are scarce, so those yellow pieces (that you’ll never see) are pricey as hell. You can replace them by the same piece, but in another color, and you’ll save literally 150 dollars, in only 16 pieces.

Since the company’s beginning in 1932, Lego has grown to be the world’s third largest toy manufacturer, and for good reason. No child or adult can resist creating their favorite monuments, figurines, ships, carousels, and many more! As for the Lego set collectors who love Star Wars, the Millennium Falcon set will keep your Jedi impulses at bay while you’re out in public. If you prefer Batman, then “Holy Cow!” you have to allow yourself to have a ball with the Batcave set! If you just want a good ‘ol pirate-ey time, then land your ship and drop your anchor on the Skull’s Eye Schooner set. Interestingly, the Lego name is derived from the two Danish words “Leg” and “Godt,” which means “play well,” and so you should.
Many collectors have been asking for years now, is the LEGO Death Star retiring? Set 10188 has had a seven year lifespan so far which is unheard of for any LEGO set, especially one this large. But the Death Star… Continue Reading →

Another easy way to reduce the price: Just order your pieces by Status, and scroll down until you find the pieces marked with a blueish cross. Those are the extra pieces that come in every set. Delete them immediately. In my case, those were US$ 20 less.
The Millennium Falcon set comes in at the top of our list simply because it’s freaking awesome.  It is among the two or three most recognizable images from the entire Star Wars franchise, so it easily checks the nostalgia box.  The set is huge at 1329 pieces and takes a few hours to complete.  Inside the box you get the awesome Falcon itself, complete with the iconic holochess board, cockpit, and even spring loaded blasters.  Additionally, you get a wealth of minifigurines including Han Solo, Chewbacca, Rey, Finn, and BB-8 (you get two more, but who cares about those guys?).  The minor complaint here is that this is The Force Awakens version, so you get old Han, rather than A New Hope Han.  That’s easy enough to ignore, however, with the all-around spectacular set included here.
As for how we judge sets ourselves, we tend to break it down into two categories:  the build and the components.  We’re like any other Lego enthusiast, we love the build.  It needs to be challenging and engaging, not something that can be pieced together without instructions.  It doesn’t necessarily have to be a huge set, there is often a lot of fun to be had in smaller sets, but the build needs to grab our attention.  Most of those on our list end up being on the longer side for builds, as it’s the nature of the build that sets with more detailed builds will end up more engaging for us.
Separate the pieces. Detach all pieces from each other unless they are stuck by grime. Set aside all pieces with stickers, printed ink, moving parts, electrical parts, or clear plastic. These must be scrubbed with a dry towel or alcohol wipes to avoid damage from the tumbling.
➡ LEGO ANGRY BIRDS SETS ON SALE: The entire LEGO Angry Birds line is on sale. I like the set because it’s modular and can be quickly rebuilt to make your own scenes. I also like the flat 1×1 plates – but there sure are a lot of them. As far as set weights go, this is pretty light. Lots of tiny pieces could pose an issue for younger builders. I built my first set in an hour, and my second in 45 minutes, but I could see build times easily doubling mine depending on age. Kids obviously love it, and for parents it can be frustrating to see your kids want something that doesn’t maximize pieces/dollar/gram ratios, but there’s a good econ lesson in there. Especially if you can work something in about scalpers and aftermarket pricing. A note on that – don’t pay their ludicrous prices. Keep an eye out and you can snag this set fairly easily. SlickDeals always has a thread posted when this set is in stock.
These two websites are going to make your life a lot easier while buying pieces, just matching the stores that sell the pieces you still need, and will automatically remove them from your wishlist as you buy them.

“best lego investments 2016 _best lego sets to invest in 2016”

We all know one proven way to invest in LEGO bricks is to look for big sales and great deals on LEGO sets that are still currently available at retail, then flip them several year later for a profit. Another great way to invest in LEGO bricks is to scour eBay and look for older and retired sets that are still having positive gains month after month and do the same thing. The trick is finding those older and retired sets without too much trouble. Here is our solution. Below is a list of the Top Performing “Old and Retired” LEGO sets over the past six months. All 50 LEGO sets on the list have been produced in 2008 or earlier. When displaying the sets from the USA eBay listings, there is a 20% range added to the current market value. For all other country feeds, the high price range is twice the current value and the low price range is half of the current value. When testing, this was returning some decent results. Our goal here is to help find these top performing sets that are still consistently increasing in value and showing you current eBay listings within a close price range of it’s current market value. It is our wish that you utilize this data to diversify your Brickfoilio and to help you find some hidden gems that will make you some money in the secondary LEGO market.
Also, when it is a line of products people who got into the game late will want to purchase the earlier models. If you just found out about Fire Brigade and Emporium, you looked into it and found out about Cafe Corner being an earlier set in the line, you’d might really want to get one.
Lego Star Wars Battle of Scarif Retiring Soon Imagine experiencing a battle scene on the beach you made sandcastles on for your entire life. We all have seen the Star Wars: Rogue One block buster movie and cannot forget the Battle of Scarif. Lego lets you role-play and experience the whole battle scene by yourself with …
That said, if have the time and can split the box out by category (be it Star Wars, pirates, Medieval, Technic or whatever) these smaller – more specific – bundles will frequently sell for more than a job-lot of unsorted bricks.
This detailed LEGO® brick recreation of the ship featured in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones includes an opening minifigure cockpit, space for the R4-P17 Astromech droid top section and 2 stud shooters, while the large hyperdrive features 2 spring-loaded shooters, big engines, and a grab handle for enhanced play and quick release of the docked model. This impressive set also includes 3 minifigures and an Astromech droid figure.
I do not pay attention to it. When I think of retiring soon, I think that the set will EOL in the next week to month. From what I am seeing, Lego puts the retiring soon label just to sell more of that specific set, with no indication that the set will retire soon. Also, they keep the label on for forever. I have seen labels on some sets for months, and they say that the set is retiring soon. Let’s rethink that.
Product Name : Star Wars Star Destroyer 10221. Grab your hands on this rare Star Wars Super Star Destroyer Set. This custom set was inspired by Lego’s Original 10221 Collectors set. This kit is not typically meant for children under 16 due to its complexity.
It’s not the most expensive set on the list, but the clue to why you would want one is right there in the title. Actually the second version of the hulking quadruped snow-tank, this walking All-Terrain Armoured Transport battery-powered set is quite rare, but the open-top cockpit and grappling line for Luke’s classic lightsaber take-down make it worth the asking price.
It’s free advice but make sure you do the math! You will hopefully have better luck than me because it is confusing!  Most sellers are pros but once in a while, you might get someone looking to unload a stash.  Be ready for that.
And for the post above @mrdoofa – happens everywhere – diecast, art, real cars, action figures, etc. I’m pretty sure it doesn’t bother Lego – If buyers are willing spend money on old retired items, the same buyers will also spend money on new releases. I bought an Extra Town Hall when it was going EOL. Am I a bad person? I don’t think so. The profit when I decide to sell buys more Lego I want, which is good for TLG.. You can do the exact same…..
Disclosure: Toys are Tools has not been paid by any of the aforementioned parties to write this post about saving you money. However, Toys are Tools has been given admission to help facilitate a review of the The Art of the Brick exhibit. Additionally, the LEGO adventure book was also submitted for review – stay tuned for interviews! Send me questions to ask them.
Next we look at rare colors. You may not realize this, but when we are in control of everything we buy we tend to gravitate towards colors we like. Therefore, your collection of spare LEGO parts will likely have more or less the same colors. So when you look through the parts-list for a set you are trying to put together, pay attention to colors you know you don’t have much quantity. My project involving the #10185 LEGO Modular Green Grocer has a tremendous amount of sand-green parts that I didn’t have in my collection.
➡ LEGO ULTRA AGENTS SETS ON SALE: Yet another theme that is getting close to retirement is LEGO Ultra Agents. So far only a couple of sets are on sale; #70163 LEGO Ultra Agent’s Toxikita’s Toxic Meltdown, and #70161 LEGO Ultra Agents Tremor Track Infiltration. Both are great sets from the first wave of LEGO Ultra Agents, and it might be a good idea to keep checking if others go on sale as well. You can find them under the Sales & Deals section. BUY HERE
I don’t know how they could have made this kit any more unappealing. I feel like they reused molds from other micro kits and just tried to get a minecrafty color scheme – they completely phoned this in!

I also missed the Cafe Corner… though looking back it’s because I didn’t have the money. I’d say these are more for the AFOL who commit to City designs. So the only advantage to building minifig scale streets is if you want to make a huge Lego town. Lets face it… the direction it’s heading is far more expensive then we imagine. I like many different themes and would rather get a lot of different stuff than build a town. I feel bad about missing out on a cool series of sets, but every year I see plenty of other cool sets to keep my wallet empty. Unless you really like modern city don’t bother… the Ebay re-seller world makes collecting Lego horrible.
You can also buy Lego Harry Potter mini-figures individually on eBay or BrickLink if those are what the kids are really in love with. While one Harry Potter figure might still set you back $15 plus shipping (at the cheap end), that’s a lot cheaper than buying a whole set. Again, figures tend to be more expensive on eBay due to the auction effect.
Haha, lord Business’ basement is kinda what’s giving me the itch to get them. I have a large empty basement that has other hobby things such as RC planes and RC cars. I also have a model railroad, and although the scale would be off, I am wanting to build a city made of LEGO and run the train through it. My son would absolutely love that.
This set offers a ton of play — the boat floats, the raft floats, there’s a helicopter (with pontoons — DOES NOT FLOAT), there’s a submersible (DOES SINK, heh heh), a lighthouse, and sharks. Plus 6 minifigs! Pilot, captain, first mate, second mate, and a happy couple. Plus a dog. Plus a popsicle!

I’ve been building technics since I was 10 years old, and this is the first time I spent over $100 on a set. The sheer size and the engineering behind this set made me feel like 10 again. Actually 10 year old me wouldn’t be able to assemble this set. It took me, a 30 year old male good 12 hours to entirely assemble the set. But I was humming and whistling in childish joy for the first 9 hours. Then a fatigue settled in, but I’m not the type of person to leave things unfinished because I would be assembling this set in my dreams. I misplaced couple of pieces and had a major set back about twice. But at last, the beast was complete. It really is a beautiful set and worth every penny. If you are technics fan, don’t even think about it. Just buy it.

Darth Vader’s personal flagship and the Imperial command centre in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, the Super Star Destroyer is quite the spectacle in Lego form. The hilariously diddy Star Destroyer that comes in the box shows off how grandiose this gargantuan, 3,152-piece ship really is.
When movie audiences saw it for the first time in Marvel’s The Avengers back in 2012, the airborne SHIELD Helicarrier was a thing of beauty, a remarkably feasible-looking design of how a flying aircraft carrier would look like built in our world. Since then, the wondrous flying vessels would figure in two more MCU movies (and cameo unnamed in Fox’s “Deadpool”). read more

As I mentioned above, there is some software available to make the BrickLink shopping experience more automatic, but I personally like shopping without the aid of a program that will do everything for me. Sure I might not be getting the very best price, but I can support some of my BrickLink favorite sellers. At any rate, I like to start any project by pulling up some of the rarest, most expensive parts I need to purchase. I do this by selecting those pieces individually and finding the cheapest prices on BrickLink for them.
If you do not have these sets yet, here’s your final chance to get them at their usual retail price. Add them to your collection ASAP (if you do not have them yet) before the prices start to inflate (and you may have to pay unreasonable prices to get them from the secondary market in the future…)
For the Lego collectors who love Batman, this set is to die for because it includes more than figurines and vehicles. This set also comes with Batman’s high-tech Bat Cave features control center, prison cell, and rocket and net launcher as well as other working gadgets like the costume transformation chamber.

I’ve got to be honest with you: the first time I saw the concept of a U-Wing I hated it. It was probably 5 to 6 months before Rogue One was released, and I felt Lucasfilms was really stretching the “Letter-Wing ship” concept.
When I go to the US retiring page, all I get are bionicle sets and stuff, none of the items listed here. Then I click on the link in this article to the UK retiring page and these sets are listed there. What is going on? Is this why I never learned the Town Hall was retiring a couple years ago?
Luke’s Landspeeder (75173):  There’s a lot to love here with the classic landspeeder build which also includes three classic minifigurines: Luke, C3PO, and Obi-Wan (or Ben, if you prefer) Kenobi. The Tusken Raider also looks fantastic.
Not every set has to be a flashy new model. The Y-Wing proves you don’t have to be an X-Wing to be valuable. Three hours of non-stop building and 1,473 pieces later will yield you one of the longest standing fighters in the rebel fleet. Retired in 2006 no business savvy Jawa will sell it for less than $1,400.
Our first entry from outside of the movies, Captain Rex’s AT-TE is a fantastic set pulled from the Star Wars Rebels animated television series.  Rex was introduced in The Clone Wars animated movie, but this set has an aging Rex from the Rebels animated series.  This set won’t appeal to everyone, as many might not follow the animated series, but for fans of the show, this AT-TE really hits the mark.  The sheer amount of cool stuff going on here should appease any Lego fan.  The spring-loaded shooters are always awesome, but this behemoth also packs on a couple of cranes, loading doors, and six moveable legs.  Moving this thing around is a lot of fun.  The minifigurines are Rex himself, of course, along with his partners Gregor and Wolffe and two Imperials two give chase; an Inquisitor Fifth Brother (with lightsaber) and Stormtrooper.  This set is a slam dunk for fans of Rebels, but is just plain fun for any Lego fan.
^^ Since Lego did tell us, which sets are going to retire “soon”, it seems they want to sell us their left over stock as fast as possible, creating an extra demand while still having lots of boxes. And with the last box sold, the set is retired. So there is no “date”, I guess. It had been the same with the Exo-Suit.
This step will be the most tedious process of the whole project, However a Wanted List is a crucial step. It allows for fast and easy searches of stores and can enable some quick filtering. Additionally, there are LEGO fans out there who have made free software available that takes care of all the BrickLink searching for you in regards to best combination of prices and shipping fees. For more information on this check out the BrickLink forums.
I know some sets can be out be out for years and the average is around 18 months, but it hasn’t even been 6 months on these sets. Were these sets not well received, getting upgrades soon (for Dr Strange in Civil War), or what?
Is there a good site to keep track of the soon to be retired sets? I know that when the new modular comes out each January, one usually retires to be replaced by it. Was that the case this year? Closest I see is maybe the pet shop or that other similar sized one, but wasn’t sure those were in the ‘modular’ bucket.

I kept the enemy at bay for a long time. I was no stranger to stepping on sharp little pointy plastic pieces in the middle of the night; I had little brothers. So, I told my sons that we were not going to have Lego.

The first Ultimate Collector’s Series (UCS for those in the LEGO know) on our list is the deadly TIE Interceptor. Although this set it is only made up of 703 pieces, it’s valued at over $1000, about 10 times more than what it originally sold for. You would not want to destroy this with an X-wing or you would be out a lot of money.
Lego ideas just had a big review deadline of submitted sets that met the 10,000 supports goal. So there will be new sets in the near future. I imagine they are retiring the sets because they were meant as limited runs, did not sell as well as they had hoped, or just want to make room and a fresh list of Ideas sets. But regardless I am excited for the potential new sets, as many of them I had supported. There is some crazy talent going on over at the Lego Ideas website!
Probably a silly question, but can’t Judith buy from the US site? I’ve often wondered. I grew up in Germany and England, so the regional sets would interest me. A central site offering all sets to everyone would be nice.
Yeah, I have experienced that as well. Even from LEGO’s own website. It is worth checking how much printed instructions are on BrickLink. Although for exclusives they can be expensive, for most sets they are just a few cents.
Star Wars and Lego are both global phenomenon in there own right and have separately produced some of the most sought-after memorabilia in the history of popular culture. When the superpowers met however, a holy alliance of bricks and studs was born.
So like mentioned above, if you want Lego to keep making sets then keep buying loads of them… But usually most runs go for about 2-3 years before being discontinued (unless it is specifically for a retail outlet (like the Helicopter and limo sets for walmart) then I am guessing it is as many as that store wants to buy and make and lego maybe matches that, who knows
Let me add one tip to your “Working around problem parts” paragraph that I learned way to late in the process : systematically download the instructions so that, when a hard-to-find-part related problem arises, you can locate in the instructions where the part is used, so you decide if you work around it or not.

For the grown-up comic book fan, we present the S.H.I.E.L.D Helicarrier, which will carry all your mini super heroes into an epic battle. It’s the perfect complement to Lego’s Avenger base set and, with over 3,000 pieces, it will take some time to build.
Lego’s Ninjago series has exploded in popularity over the last few years among tweens. After showing a pilot episode in 2011 and releasing some popular sets throughout the year, a companion Lego Ninjago series began airing regularly on Cartoon Network in 2012, and the entire line of Ninjago products exploded with popularity. Since then, there’s been nearly a hundred different Ninjago products of varying size and age group status, as well as graphic novel adaptations, several video game adaptations, battle toys outside of the Lego line, and an upcoming feature-length theatrical film feature voice actors like Dave Franco and Jackie Chan. Needless to say, Ninjago has blown up in popular culture—and if you have a son or daughter around the right age, you’ve probably heard of the products. If you’re looking to take advantage of the popularity of the series for something to do with your kid, our favorite Ninjago kit is the Temple of Airjitzu. At $200, it isn’t cheap, but it also has just over 2,000 pieces in the set, along with twelve minifigures. It’s not just a great Lego set to build—it’s a great playset for your kid, too.

It is no secret that other LEGO orientated fan websites comment on PC set in the similar fashion: as for the investment portfolio one has to take into account: a) its been on the market for such a looooooooong time.. b) RRP purchase price is quite low given the number of the bricks in the set.. c) it just “went off” (released) at the time when Town Hall retired and suddenly everybody realised the potential of modulars.. so sure.. buy it at all costs and hope that in 5-years future you would be still able to sell it at least at the purchase costs.. .. you cant be so naive as to think that this “piece of article” is some sensational investment tip, are you?? 😀
4. While this set is designed for much older children, my 6 year old was able to assemble stage 2 by himself. He was very proud of the outcome. The only help I gave was some initial sorting and moral support.

“With the soar in popularity of Lego with both adults and children, the effect on the values of both rare, hard to find sets and new releases has been incredible,” said Bev Channell, event director for Lego event BRICK 2015, running at Birmingham’s NEC this week.
However, I do have one other complaint about all the new sets…. too much gimmickry. All the old sets were just build up… now we have the SNOT techniquie in a dozen different variations, and a lot of building gimmicks that makes building without instructions totally impossible. You have to be spoon fed every step of the way in building these elaborate and large structures. And unfortunately… the end results have an unfortunately resemblance to the buildings you would see on the Disneyworld Main Street, rather than the small town Main Street…
In order to compile a list of the biggest and most challenging Lego sets, it was necessary to narrow down the criteria. First, the sets have to be mass produced by LEGO. In other words, we’re not considering any giant custom sets like the 6-meter Death Star Trench or insane 150,000 piece recreation of Helm’s Deep from Lord of the Rings.
The first generation of LEGO Pneumatics ran from 1984 through 1988. This generation is characterised by single port pneumatic cylinders and the more complex plumbing including a three port distribution block with a pressure and vacuum outlet port. These pressure and vacuum lines ran to a switch to provide pressure for extension or vacuum for retraction of the pneumatic cylinders. These are often falsely compared to single acting hydraulic cylinders that require gravity to retract. The difference is that these units retract on the application of vacuum.[citation needed]

I have to totally disagree with the reviewer that said this set is way overpriced. Yes, this set is expensive but I think it is totally in line with what Lego prices are today. This is the biggest set I have gotten, its larger size justifies the $50 price increase from the other two Lego Modular Buildings I own, the LEGO Creator Fire Brigade 10197 and LEGO Creator Grand Emporium 10211, which both MSRP at $150. The Town Hall has 2766 pieces and 8 minifigures, the Grand Emporium has 2182 pieces and 7 minifigures and the Fire Brigade has 2231 pieces and 4 minifigues, the Town Hall as almost 25% more pieces than the Brigade and but the price went up less than 25%.

Legos’ quality has been consistently good since my grandson’s father (my son) first played with them as a little boy. I am always pleased to give Legos as a gift, and pleased that once again, Amazon came through for me!!
It has been criticized because the figures don’t actually fit inside the Tumbler, but that’s not really it’s purpose – it’s meant to be more of an engaging, quality build for adult LEGO fans, rather than something to be played with a whole lot. The Tumbler (set number 76023) is a little harder to find since it was discontinued by LEGO, but can still be found on Amazon for $325 .
Everyone has to start somewhere and having/not having some modulate is what makes everyone’s street layout unique. If the Fire Brigade and Grand Emporium were still available at retail, I would probably pick them up. But at $300+ for the Fire Brigade and $200+ for the Grand Emporium; to me it’s just not worth it, and that’s okay.

I finally got a copy of this set so I can write an actual review. I find many reviews on Amazon are negative because of item availability and aftermarket pricing. So here is an actual review of the set, not the market. Please see the customer image gallery for my build uploads.
2017 is quickly coming to an end and to make way for some of the upcoming LEGO Ideas sets including Ship In A Bottle: The Flagship Leviathan, Voltron: Defender of the Universe, and Tron Legacy Light Cycle, LEGO will soon be retiring some of the current ones that are still on store shelves. LEGO didn’t mention when they would be retired but it’s possible that it could be by the end of this year or early next year.
Finding the right original pieces for this set is so darn difficult (many of them were made only for this set and never reintroduced by another one) so several fans just adapt to modern times and recreate this set in a different color set.
Sometimes even LEGO fans would like to sell their LEGO collection, or part of their collection. This may be due to not having enough room, moving, financial challenges, loosing interest in the hobby (hope not!) or just wanting to free up room for new LEGO sets. 😉
When you have more than 50 sets, storage is a huge issue. Don’t be tempted to together a solution. Start with strong shelving and new boxes to save lots of time and keep your sets looking good. Brook Johnson will show you how he stores his sets, shows you part of his Lego library, and tells you what is “retiring soon.”
If features a full interior and a couple of aged Han Solo and Chewbacca. You can still buy this set for a reasonable price and I suggest you do it right now because it’s really hard to love Star Wars and LEGO, and not own this ship.
If we’re going to talk about a collection of X-Wings, there isn’t any other set better that this one. The Red Five, Luke Skywalkers’ call sign during the Battle of Yavin (given to him due to the fact that the “old” Red Five dies during the Battle of Scarif in Rogue One). This ship is a thing of beauty.
Judith, the discrepancy in sales usually has to do with what each region has in stock, and also what does and doesn’t sell well. The US market is very different from the market in the UK. We get our LEGO sets from the factory in Mexico (mostly), while you guys get them from mainland Europe (Denmark, Hungary, the Czech Republic). What sells well here may not sell well in the UK, and vice versa. There are even sets that only appear in a certain region based on market research and demand. It is normal for companies to have different strategies for different markets, based on extensive market research.

What sets are the pieces from? – If you know your pieces came from specific sets, mention this in the description. If you have any instruction booklets, these can be a clue as to where the parts came from.
That makes sense since after the movie is out of theaters I imagine the sets don’t fly off the shelves. But it really causes the prices to skyrocket on the secondary market due to the limited availability.

In the Fall 2017 catalog some sets have the term “Last Chance!” above the price. The description in the catalog’s legend says specifically that a product with that label will be retiring soon. A list of those sets are as follows:

Lego discontinues sets for a lot of different reasons… Mostly because of demand for parts I am sure, they cannot thin out their lines to keep 1000 more sets in production, plus sets get old, they do.. most people buy one and they want to see the next one out.. therefore if they were to make more of them then no one would buy.. and no, only selling 3 sets to people over 1 year is not their idea of good sales…. Then they would need to list a lot of their warehouse for 50% off.. again not something they want to do…. I mean look at the steamrollers and pig farms, which would not die… I think the biggest reason is to keep the lines fresh.. not to mention sets can come back at times (see the Metroliner, Main street, Black Falcons Fortress and Guarded Inn and recently the Maersk Container ship).
Even on eBay you will have several options, depending on how much money you hope to make and how much work you are willing to do. If you take apart the sets, clean them, verify all the original pieces are present, re-pack them into bags and the original boxes with original instructions, you can make significantly more than if you just take a picture of the bulk lot and say “what you see is what you get”.
Rather than rehash how awesome the model is. Let me give you a few ideas and notes from my TWO experiences building the Death Star. Yup, I built one that didn’t survive a home move – so, I’ve just rebuilt it.
Yes thats actually what happened to me, I recovered an old catalog from 2007, flipped through it, and found the Cafe Corner. My eyes widened as I drooled over the set (its price was listed as $130.) I couldnt find it on legoshop.com, so I looked on eBay and found one for $1040. I was then really disappointed, because I could never afford it at that price…
This is an HD video tutorial on how to use Bricklink to buy the individual pieces for a retired Lego set for a much better price than you can find on eBay or Amazon. The example I use in this video is for Lego Technic 8275. This 2007 set retailed for $150 and was discontinued in March 2008. The set costs over $650 on third party sites. However, when one strategically selects used parts from Bricklink the set can be built as designed by Lego for pennies on the dollar compared to third party website prices. In my example, I was able to obtain 95% of the required parts from one seller for a cost of $150… not bad considering on eBay it was going for $750 and over $800 on Amazon.

As your kids grow up, they won’t want to look at a house with 6 different color bricks but I don’t think they realize that this is why they aren’t satisfied with their LEGO stash.  This is one reason why they veer towards the kits.  Their tastes are more complicated. They want art!  But instead of crying as you buy set after set, try committing to a couple of colors and just keep buying those.  Get inspired by Nathan Sawaya’s Book: The Art of Nathan Sawaya or visit The Art of the Brick Exhibit at Discovery Times Square.  If you’ll be there on Sunday August 3rd look out for me!  Read more about Nathan Sawaya in my last post about LEGO Cuusoo and Small Yellow.

Crazy number of trains, multiple tracks, storage Thomas, roaring dinosaur ramps, bridges, train station, book box set, individual books (including one from library discontinued we bought second hand) and more. Son outgrown it now we are in LEGO phase! No time wasters this is a great collection.
My 6YO loves Lego. We were buying small sets, but my husband found that he could buy a box of random parts on Ebay for much cheaper. He bought a set that had…I forget, but I think 1000 pieces, for $50 this fall. I’ll check with him, but I think it was that, or maybe 500 pieces. It seemed like a good deal. It’s very random, but my son loved it. That’s my only tip so far. I’ve looked on Craigslist, but with no luck. I’ve never seen them at thrift stores, but I’ll keep my eyes open for them. Thanks.
Another weird thing I noticed was that this set was never in stock in the 3 Lego stores in my area. I checked over a period of several weeks and never saw it once, even after the Rogue 1 sets came out. I ended up purchasing it via shop @ home.

Aye, Lego mateys! When it comes to purchasing this amazing ship, Lego collectors and pirate lovers are ready to ‘walk the plank’ and dive in. Released in 1993, this set includes a large three-masted pirate ship, nine pirate figurines, a rowboat, a shark, and much more. This ship is armed with four cannons that are mounted on turntables that slide from port to starboard. Included on either of the poop deck are two smaller non-functional cannons.
Use this method to minimize damage. This method is more time-consuming than others, unless the LEGO only has minor dust and dirt. Use this for your favorite or most collectible LEGO, to keep them safe from accidental damage.
There are also two large LEGO Star Wars sets retiring soon. The #10236 LEGO Star Wars Ewok Village (released in 2013), and the #75059 LEGO Star Wars Sandcrawler (released in 2014) have both been around for a while, so it makes sense that LEGO is retiring them, even though they are both excellent sets. The LEGO Star Wars Ewok Village, in particular, is a great set even for non-Star Wars fans, who would like to build a nice forest scene for elves, Na’vi, or Robin Hood and his merry band of outlaws. You can find both sets under the LEGO Star Wars section of the Online LEGO Shop.
LEGO is doing some pretty major summer clearance right now at the Online LEGO Shop, including some very nice medium to large sets that are getting retired. Below I will highlight some of the most noteworthy ones, and you can check out the rest at the Sales & Deals section of the Online LEGO Shop. Please note that once stock is out on retiring soon sets, LEGO won’t be making any more, so make sure you don’t miss out. 🙂
After binging on Legos for many years, I’ve come up with the best Star Wars sets out today. I’ve used my own experience for the basis of my lists but have also scoured the web for reviews, input and ratings and combined them all for your easy consumption.
Lando Calrissian’s floating city of Bespin is one of the smaller classic Star Wars sets, but where else can you find a “working” carbon freezing chamber? With four distinct “play areas” and a star-studded mini-figure collection, you would be hard-pressed to have a bad feeling about this minimal set.

I was sorting through our stash this month and I was greatly disappointed in seeing how only a small minority of them are actual bricks. (Our stash weighs approximately 20 lbs!)  Really, it’s embarrassing and moreover, it’s frustrating because I have two kids at home, one who is quite LEGO proficient and the other is not so proficient.

Unfortunately I’ve never seen Legos sold (bricks or sets) at any garage sales or thrift stores around here or I would have snatched them up. My mother had saved my original set so we started with that. My daughter loves the little Lego Friends figurines. We’ve successfully bought a couple of times off eBay. I think only once was it missing one of the pieces (not evident unless you consulted the manual). Let friends know you’re interested in Legos – sometimes they’re downsizing and will hand them off for free or a great price. When you do have to buy new, watch for sales throughout the year; we snagged a larger Lego Friends set at Target way back in September. It was a one-day only 40% off special.
The Taj Mahal is the supreme ruler of the most iconic images of India. This magnificent building is ideal for a Lego replica because the four sides of the structure are perfectly identical, creating a mirrored image on each side. Here, the architectural elements of self-replicating geometry and symmetry come into play.

You could’ve felt the call while you were a kid, or during your mid-thirties. It doesn’t matter when you started your LEGO Star Wars collection, there’s are a number of sets that you definitely love collecting, because they’re emblematic in a sense, because they’re just beautiful to build and display, or simply because everybody has one and now you have to (sometimes it works for me).
REALITY it’s location, location, location! What has all of our parents said to use at least a 1000 times on your life span???? “If I only kept that box it came in.” Yeah you have the the first two in the series bUT do you have the boxes for them?
I completely understand your point Rabbit, and your right, I do like that sets hold their value, and even increase over time. Being an adult and having extra money affords me the benefit of buying more than most. As a collector though, and having no intention of ever selling, I could care less if everyone had every set. I do it to relax and enjoy, not for profit. Again, I am not knocking those that do it for profit but there are many sides to every discussion. So to sum up, for me I wouldnt mind sets being more readily available.

That’s a great deal, I got mine from Target too, and it was $29.99….was yours an online return? Because when the someone returns an item they bought online, the price is epically reduced, even if it is pristine condition.
Most of the remaining Harry Potter Lego sets were apparently snapped up in stores during the Christmas rush, and now it’s hard to find Harry Potter Lego sets at a reasonable price. (Evidently, it’s not a new thing for investors to buy up collectible toys like this, and resell them online for two or three times the price.) What’s a geeky Dad to do? I want to encourage creative play and nurture her individual interests, but the prices of these hard-to-find Harry Potter Legos sets are eye-popping!
Lego has a strong foothold in the world of Star Wars. It’s something that helped revive interest in both back in the late 2000s and it is a partnership paying off big time now. But with every new set that comes out, one has to get pushed aside. In this instance, there is an entire line of Lego sets getting pushed back to make room for The Last Jedi and beyond.

Pick-up from Doncaster East 3109 or happy to post for an additinal $13.80 Thank I guess if I was a buyer I would focus and getting at least 1 of the bigger sets you want, regardless of the Price (although sites like Brickset help out TREMENDOUSLY in finding sales on sets at different places) and worry about the smaller ones that way if the smaller one sells out you have a good chance of picking one up for a decent price later (if if discontinued) I ended up purchasing a second set of the Pet Shop and I’ll be totally honest I can’t remember if I either had the idea originally or saw it on-line, but it can be fun to build the second apartment building as a mirror to the first one. Also a bit of a mind bender if I remember correctly! I have mine set up with the two doors close to each other but it’s certainly easy enough to switch them around if you prefer them that way. Any Lego Star Wars set that is still readily available, i.e. not retired, in 2017 could qualify for our list.  That is a pretty broad list and we did consider quite a few, but there are some other ways we narrowed it down.  There are a couple of dozen sets which are little more than a minifigure and a small ship or another accessory.  If one of these blew us away, we would consider it, but given the wealth of options available, that didn’t happen.   Want to sell your books but don't have time? So there will be new sets in the near future. I imagine they are retiring the sets because they were meant as limited runs, did not sell as well as they had hoped, or just want to make room and a fresh list of Ideas sets. But regardless I am excited for the potential new sets, as many of them I had supported. There is some crazy talent going on over at the Lego Ideas website! Minecraft is an online sandbox a virtual world where the essential play creative building with virtual cubes and its about learning skills and building craft tools and mining for gold and diamonds. The games is inspired by Infiniminer, Dwarf Fortress and Dungeon Keeper, created by Markus Persson, the founder of Mojang AB. The game involves players creating and destroying various types of blocks in a three dimensional environment. The player takes an avatar that can destroy or create blocks, forming fantastic structures, creations and artwork across the various multiplayer servers in multiple game modes. Conclusion: If you can get it for MSRP of $34.99, it's a buy. I wouldn't suggest paying collectible prices, as LEGO will undoubtedly be producing more of these, and will probably create different Minecraft sets in the near future. At least I hope they do. I would love to add more modules to this set, and I'll be interested to see tiny zombies, skeletons, and mob animals. I also like to create a completely new Wanted List for each project and leave my default main Wanted List open for miscellaneous wants. Once the list is populated, you may want to take a moment to compare the list to the set’s inventory page. When I put together my Wanted List for the #10195 LEGO Modular Market Street, to my surprise, a few parts were left off because they had a MID (Matching Part ID). Turns out that in this instance the system did not know which part to add, so it did not add either. For those who are confused, you are not alone. MID parts are parts that look and act exactly how you might need them in a set. There are small differences, but nothing that matters when it comes to the set you are working on. For example, a bus that uses white train windows can use the ones that have or don’t have shutter-holes. The parts look nearly identical except for this very minor difference. However, a set like the #10190 LEGO Modular Market Street uses shutters in the white train windows so only one type will work. Essentially, you need to make sure that the system did not leave off any parts. It is very annoying when you get around to building to find that you are missing a single part that is not terribly rare, but you just don’t have it. Making the list as one of the 7 most expensive Lego sets, this stunning model of the Eiffel Town was released in 2007 and is built to 1:100 scale from the original blueprints. This set includes realistic and enchanting features and details such as a flag at the top of the elevators, four lifts toward the bottom of the tower that transport figurines from the base to the center section, and a small, brick-built French flag. It holds the record for the tallest Lego structure produced into a set and contains over three-thousand pieces! My two little sisters were looking forward to getting the Lego Friends hourse riding camp set, (the $100, whatever it’s called,) and so we were on the Lego shopping site, and I saw that it was on clearance for $49.99. And immediately I was like, “YOU…WHA-BUT YOU GOT IT SOOO GOO-” and then I realized it was sold out 🙂 🙁 . I was seriously considering picking one up for myself, for the pieces. This is a great purchase. It didn't take me too long to build it, just an hour or two, and it was bigger than I thought. It was fun creating the drawbridge and the steel gate, I think that this is a great addition to have. Also included are three blue and gray lion soldiers. One is equipped with a longbow, a quiver, and a helmet. Another is equipped with a helmet and a crossbow. The last has a chest plate, a large shield, a sword, and a helmet with a visor (introduced in LEGO Kingdoms Escape From Dragon's Prison 7187). Rinse and dry bricks once color is restored. This typically takes about four to six hours. This time varies depending on the strength of the sunlight and the age of the hydrogen peroxide. Once done, transfer the bricks to a colander, rinse them, and air dry. Two years is a good ballpark estimate for sets but by no means an accurate way to think about it. Though the average set can be available off and on for two years, many sets don't last nearly that long, particularly sets tied to movies. Jurassic World hasn't even been out a year and they are no where to be found. And the Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies sets came out a few months before the movie in late 2014 but I haven't seen them regularly on a shelf for at least five months. The truth is though some mainstay sets may last two years most don't. The toy industry moves faster and faster each year. Instead weigh the desirability of a given set rather than expecting it to be safe at the two year mark. LEGO Super Heroes The Tumbler 76023 I do not have a shop. I run a warehouse. I can meet you for pickup in the following areas: Taigum (Rare) Brisbane City Fortitude Valley Runcorn Underwood Gold Coast (Rare) If there are any other sets that I do not have listed or any discontinued sets, please contact me to see if I can source it. I can source most Lego sets. Can deliver Australia wide. For more Legos see my other listings: https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-seller/David*****9918 You can also buy individual Lego pieces direct from the Lego.com. The selection is much less complete than Bricklink, but you can buy in bulk whereas sellers on Bricklink often have only one or two of each brick. You will not find specific Harry Potter mini-figures or “Hogwarts” pieces there, but you should be able to find many of the pieces you need to complete Harry Potter sets, and in the correct colors. The same might be the case if you live close to a Lego store (we don’t, so I can’t pop in and see what they have). Shipping from the Lego online store tends to be more expensive than BrickLink, so if you are only looking for a few parts bear that in mind. I got bulk quantities of windows, tan bricks, doors, and other various parts that look like they belong in the Hogwarts castle, and the shiping is much more reasonable once you’re ordering a larger amount of bricks. They often have special offers or free gifts with purchase, so you can find great value or get some exclusive bricks by ordering direct. If features a full interior and a couple of aged Han Solo and Chewbacca. You can still buy this set for a reasonable price and I suggest you do it right now because it’s really hard to love Star Wars and LEGO, and not own this ship.
