“lego toy shop cheap lego bargains cheap”

My biggest regret like most people here is not buying more than one of these sets. If you bought the Cafe Corner, you would know that LEGO literally encourages you to buy 2,3 or 6 of them, to build yourself a skyscraper…. Don’t believe me, check out the instructions for the set. Had you been insane enough to do that, you would now be considered one smart LEGO collector. I recommended to so many of my LEGO friends to buy these sets, but many of them thought they to be too expensive. I wished I had listened to myself and bought more of them.
For the Lego collectors who love Batman, this set is to die for because it includes more than figurines and vehicles. This set also comes with Batman’s high-tech Bat Cave features control center, prison cell, and rocket and net launcher as well as other working gadgets like the costume transformation chamber.
If you think they’re cool, then buy them. You don’t have to collect all of them in order to enjoy the ones that are available. If you’re the sort of completist who needs to own every one of them, then maybe avoid it. But otherwise resign yourself to the fact that you’re not going to own every single one of them, just as most of us have resigned ourselves to the fact that we’re not going to be able to buy every single Lego set out there, and just enjoy what’s available.

Pegs – Pegs are small cylindrical pieces that latch into holes in beams. The two most common types of pegs are called connector pegs, which join two beams together. Black or blue connector pegs hold the two beams together stiffly, while grey or tan connector pegs form loose hinges. Pegs have also been seen in System sets.

LEGO Technic system has always included a variety of different electric motors. Broadly, these divide into those powered by batteries, held in a connected battery box, or by mains electricity, via a transformer. Battery-power is the most common.

Large-size, well-constructed set with a lot of useful pieces and some really neat touches (the brick tiling, the bell, the numbered ‘engraving’, a little water tower…). Almost 3x more expensive though now then when I first bought it. :/
Because a slight delay is involved between increased pressure and cylinder movement, various feedback loops can be used whereby one pneumatic component can activate another in a series of mechanical events.
Now, I generally buy LEGO not as an investment but because I like it. That said, I do like getting a good value for my money. With regards to Modular Buildings, these truly are a good value to buy on the primary market (i.e. normal retail of current sets, not Bricklink, Ebay, or the likes), as an enthusiast and as an investor. The models are beautiful and they impress AFOLs and the general public alike. They are filled with interesting building techniques and cute details. They are very satisfying to build. As a set, they merit being valued highly. Now, to add icing on the cake, if you look at the parts that make the whole, you then see the real steal that Modular Building are. With US prices, the building tend to be under 7 cents per piece. Compare that to the price per piece on your favorite sets. We’re on the low end here. I don’t see sets going for less than 6 cents per piece and often times they go for 10 or 11 cents. Your bucket of bricks tends to be at the 7 cent level, but a bucket of bricks doesn’t have as a nice part selection as the modular houses do. So even if you were to buy the sets for new bricks, throwing away all the packaging and instructions and parting the whole thing out for MOCs, I still think it would be a good value.
In addition to that, the police bike, SUV and the two new vehicles make it very effective. One particular feature that we loved was the McCain figure present, it was happy to see that children really appreciated and recognized a great hero.

The Palace Cinema (set # 10232) is a throwback to the Fire Brigade in that it also has only two levels. The first contains a concession area and lobby while the second floor contains the large screen with projector and theater style seating. Palace Cinema even comes with a limousine and spotlights for opening night. What movie are your Lego figures going to see next? What movie stars may they run into on opening night? A lot of fun Lego imagination available with this one!

Starting in 1958, the hollow-based plastic brick with top studs became known as the Lego Brick. Since then, the simple form has been inspiring generations of builders to create to their fullest potential. With the addition of the standard smiling minifigure in 1978, Legos became a plastic representation of human possibility. With a little imagination and a lot of Legos, the possibilities were endless. The first Lego space set became available in 1979. This was the first themed set; available with special features and bricks that were unattainable elsewhere.
On 27 October 2014, Cartoon Network aired the television special Lego DC Comics: Batman Be-Leaguered which details Superman wanting to recruit Batman into the Justice League while he is fighting Penguin and other villains over a gem, but he refuses the league. When Superman mysteriously goes missing, Batman recruits Flash to help find him. With nothing to report, they run into Captain Cold, who is trying to steal an Atlantean pillar in a desert. After a fight which results in the Batwing getting destroyed and Flash mysteriously disappearing, Batman defeats Cold, only for him and the pillar to go missing as well. He goes to Aquaman in the sea, who fights Black Manta for the trident of Poseidon, but he goes through a similar situation, where Aquaman disappears, Batman defeats Manta, and then he and the trident are warped away. Realizing that the Justice League is the target and not the artifacts Batman goes to Wonder Woman and Cyborg, who are fighting Luthor in Metropolis. As Luthor reveals an anonymous buyer wants the daily planet globe, Wonder Woman and Cyborg disappear, leaving Batman to defeat Luthor, only for him and the globe to disappear. Batman realizes that the plot was by Bat-Mite and it was to abduct the members of the Justice League and so that Batman can be the number one superhero in the universe.[3]

I’ve always been a fan of the Town Plan system… not just because I grew up with it, but also I like the very high quality (and very expensive and collectible today) 1:87 vehicles and other accessories that gave it a more realistic look than much of the LEGO of today. I dislike the conical and spherical trees of today… but find the larger use of “greenery canopy” MOC trees very nicely done. And I dislike many of the modern LEGO cars made for the minifigs as looking too “cartoonish”… although I do like the LEGO trains very much.
After this realization I debated getting the Grand Emporium and Fire Brigade, and decided not to because it will be very difficult to muster 6+ bills to get each of the original two sets(I will most definitely at some point need all the Modular sets). Well now that the pet shop is released I’m afraid on of the others will be discontinued the prices will sky rocket as their predecessors have, making it even more difficult to collect the modular buildings at a later date.

Over the holidays, my niece got a larger Friends LEGO set and I helped her put it together (it had around 1200 pieces!). I was once again bitten by the LEGO bug. I hadn’t played with LEGO’s for nearly 20 years but now I had to! I looked around LEGO’s website to see what kinds of sets were available – I had seen all the movie sets and what not already in the stores, but wanted something more interesting… Saw these Creator sets and I just had to have them. I ended up getting the 4 that are currently available (Town Hall, Pet Shop, Fire Brigade & Grand Emporium). Too bad the other 2/3 are valued so highly and cost around $1000 each (too rich for my pockets!) but I am looking forward to the Chinese Theatre that will be coming out sometime this year. I wish they made more than 1 of these each year! This set took me about 5-6 hours to complete and it is magnificent! I did a time lapse photo shoot of it as well (which may have increased my build time a little). I’ve completed 3 out the 4 sets I’ve purchased and they are some of the best looking sets I’ve seen and truly had a blast putting them together. One the best parts about these buildings is that they are designed to be connected together to make a street out of them. Can’t wait to get more LEGO sets to build in the future.
Everyone has different opinions, but I’d recommend starting withe the Pet Shop. It’s one modular that almost everyone really likes and as the oldest one out there, the most likely to be discontinued next. It also is probably the most versatile modular out there. It looks great with my FB and GE. It pretty much looks like it was made to go next to PR and I imagine it looking really good next to the Detective Office too. Plus, you can split it up!
My seven year old will love this gift for approximately two hours, then play with it for two hours, then fiddle with the characters for an hour and then never look at it again. But it’s the only toy he likes, so what are you gonna do. I mean I got Luke Skywalker and his land speeder in 1977 and did not play with anything else until 1984. But times have changed.

I think you would have to look at it in an entrepreneur/business man’s point of view to understand it. If people aren’t buying enough of the sets to keep a good profit after a few years, Lego might find that they would make more money using the same pieces if they were to discontinue the set and release a new one people would buy more of. If you already have an old set that is still on the market, there wouldn’t be much point in buying a second or third. (assuming its for personal use.)

Similar to Ebates, I use Upromise.com to get a bit of a price discount. If you can’t find a sale, I’ve used lego.com via Upromise and found that a) they have really excellent customer service and b) you can build up “lego points” to get a discount on a future purchase.
They don’t always discontinue them– the best example I can think of is probably the Star Destroyer, which was around longer than LEGO initially expected, thanks to excellent sales. They offered it in catalogs from at least 2002 to 2007 (6 years). If they offered the UCS MF that long, it would be in catalogs until at least 2012!
More Upcoming 2017 Retirements Revealed in the LEGO’s Europe Website https://retiringsets.com/lego-sets/more-upcoming-2017-retirements-revealed-in-the-legos-europe-website/ …pic.twitter.com/vtSlPxQK3z
Lego’s priciest advanced models are highly valued collector’s items. The most expensive retired Lego sets can fetch up to five figures. Among the most expensive include sets themed after Star Wars and major world landmarks like the Taj Mahal.
Although this set is relatively expensive for the number of pieces contained within (compared to the Lego average), the pieces tend to be larger ones, and the unique figures certainly justify the additional cost. This is a fantastic set for kids who want to re-enact the movie scene or are otherwise looking for a play-heavy set (the construction is durable and will hold up to enthusiastic play), or for Star Wars fans who want to build this set for display. If you’re going to get one current non-ship Star Wars set, this should be it. Recommended for everyone who loves Star Wars and Lego, especially if you can get this set at a discount.
I bought this for my 4 year old son for Yule. Since he’s not quite ready to assemble these sets yet, I was pleased to see that the pieces were conveniently bagged in a way that would facilitate assembly. Bag number 1 contains the figures, which gave my son something to play with while the rest of the set was being assembled. Bags numbers 2 through 10 could then be opened in order, assembling the structure from each bag before opening the next. The base plates are in a separate bag but they are large enough that they are unlikely to be lost. Having only one bag open at a time – with the smaller pieces in a smaller baglet within that bag – greatly reduced the chances of losing a piece, and in fact only one piece lost during assembly by mommy, daddy, and 6 year old big sister, despite the attempts of 2 year old brozilla.

This castle has a very LARGE footprint of 13×11.5 inches in its standard configuration. The courtyard is about 9.5×6.5 inches, if I recall correctly this is much bigger than the previous Kingdoms castle set. The set is built in six sections; there are three alternate configurations shown on the box.

Stir the pieces around once an hour. Stirring the small pieces around with a stick or gloved hand will dislodge the bubbles causing them to float. Try this every hour or so for best results. If you leave pieces floating too long, they can develop a cloudy white marking along the water line.[6]
I think this is mainly a problem with series like the Modulars. Relatively few people paid attention to the firs couple of the buildings, but when it became clear that it was going to be a series, people wanted to collect all of them, including the ones that were now retired. There are also new people who are just getting into LEGO due to the popularity of The LEGO Movie who missed out on some great sets. They can do as you mention, and just focus on the newest sets, but if it is a series like the Modulars and they really would like to have a full collection, their only option is to shell out $$$s or to piece together the set themselves.
Also, even if LEGO would allow international shipping, shipping fees would negate any savings you would get on a sale. International shipping fees can be enormous. Especially on sealed sets. I’m a BrickLink and eBay seller and after the most recent rate increases I simply had to stop selling internationally, as the fees are so crazy.

People also like to break up sets to sell the pieces individually on eBay, as they may make more money that way. The mini-figures are the most-valuable, some going for $40 each, even used! You might score a Harry Potter set for a (relative) song without any mini-figures, but your child might not be overjoyed, as the play value seems to depend on having the right beloved characters.

“lego ewok village discontinued |vintage legos for sale”

Probably a silly question, but can’t Judith buy from the US site? I’ve often wondered. I grew up in Germany and England, so the regional sets would interest me. A central site offering all sets to everyone would be nice.
➡ LEGO SALES & DEALS: The LEGO Sales & Deals section of the Online LEGO Shop has a lot of the LEGO video games on sale. This includes LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, The LEGO Movie, LEGO The Hobbit, and LEGO Legends of Chima games. Other than these the only things listed right now are a few magnets, and miscellaneous gear. However this section is going to be very busy as we get closer to the end of the year, especially right after Christmas. So make sure you check it regularly. Here is the direct link (and the same link is also available in the right-hand side-bar at all times for your convenience): LEGO Sales & Deals at the Online LEGO Shop
Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Darth Vader, and Princess Leia hold iconic status in the Star Wars universe. LEGO Star Wars minifigures allow movie fans to collect and play with their favorite characters….
Thanks to Sharon’s advice, years ago I bought the girls a large pink brick box on Christmas sale. The brick box contains starter pieces for building that can combined in a number of ways. It doesn’t lock the child into building one particular thing, like the Shelob Attacks set that one of them had requested.
I kept the enemy at bay for a long time. I was no stranger to stepping on sharp little pointy plastic pieces in the middle of the night; I had little brothers. So, I told my sons that we were not going to have Lego.
My kid is selling this bridge to me.  Not giving, selling. I’ve created an Entrepe-Monster.  Who started this? Me, but I had help. Check out Megan Rothrock’s The LEGO Adventure book in the background. Just one look at this bridge and he made his own.
Finally, when it comes to minifigures, look them up both completely assembled as well as in parts. Often a very rare minifigure that may go for $20 assembled can be bought for less than half that price in parts. I typically create a second Wanted List for this very purpose to make searching easier. Also, some LEGO fans who piece together sets don’t even care about the minifigs. For example if you are setting up a street with multiples of the same LEGO Modular Building, you may only need one set of the minifigures.
Public transport: St Albans is a well connected commuter city with many bus routes and two train Stations (SAC and SAA). The shop is around 15 minutes walk from either train station and around 3 minutes walk from town centre bus stops on St Peters Street.
If the sets have been used (pre-built) I would try Craigslist first to see if there is a local buyer. If you luck out you will have an end-buyer who just genuinely wants the sets you have for themselves and they are willing to pay a bit more for used sets, or you can sell them to a reseller for a bulk price. If you want top dollar you can list on eBay, but it will take up a lot of your time.
I do not pay attention to it. When I think of retiring soon, I think that the set will EOL in the next week to month. From what I am seeing, Lego puts the retiring soon label just to sell more of that specific set, with no indication that the set will retire soon. Also, they keep the label on for forever. I have seen labels on some sets for months, and they say that the set is retiring soon. Let’s rethink that.
Product Name : Star Wars Star Destroyer 10221. Grab your hands on this rare Star Wars Super Star Destroyer Set. This custom set was inspired by Lego’s Original 10221 Collectors set. This kit is not typically meant for children under 16 due to its complexity.
Another important tip is to just ask for stuff they want.  Make sure you give the G-Parents the product number too.  Try looking up LEGO Creator House and see what happens.  Be kind and give the number.
This set has quite a few play features, lots of minifigures, a horse and a catapult. This set is straight forward to put together; younger children shouldn’t have too much of a problem with it with a little help from older siblings or a parent. At an MSRP of $99 with the large pieces it contains, this set is a good value.
You can search online for replacement guides for the most expensive sets, and you’re always going to find great tips. For example, most of the internal parts of the Millennium Falcon were some technic yellow parts, that were also created for other much common sets at the time. But now, those sets are scarce, so those yellow pieces (that you’ll never see) are pricey as hell. You can replace them by the same piece, but in another color, and you’ll save literally 150 dollars, in only 16 pieces.
Build Quality: Pretty solid, I’m happy to say. This set does not sacrifice build quality for detail (which many LEGO sets unfortunately do). You may find that the tree tops pop off when you’re rearranging the different modules, but everything else sticks solid.
Don’t get me wrong.  I think LEGO bricks are super cool! I am a sucker for anything translucent and those miniature replicas of real-life objects steal my heart. (we have videocameras, pizzas, goggles, alligators, etc)  I love them just as much as I love those porcelain bathtubs of handcrafted wooden dollhouses. To me, LEGO is its own language – like visual poetry.
The sets are still going to hang around until they’re out of stock, but once they’re gone that’s it. One thing this might help is the collectability of the sets after their shelf life runs out. There are some really cool Rogue One sets out there, but not everyone is going to get their hands on them.
If you are buying new, you can still reflect on the weight- a little bit at least. LEGO is so marvelously cute that it’s kind of deceptive how expensive they are – especially if you are buying sets!  Pound for pound, magnetic toys like Magnatiles (many moms will say these are pricey) are usually cheaper than LEGO sets.  Boxes of just bricks are cheaper (by the pound) but only by a little.
Lego Star Wars Millennium Falcon Retiring Soon Lego is proud to present the largest and most detailed model ever created. It is the ultimate Star Wars Millennium Falcon that is built by joining a total of 7,500 bricks. This model has made it to the list of the biggest Lego Models of all times. The Millennium …
You will also find periodic sales or loyalty points at your neighborhood retail store and money spent there saves you time and you invest in your local economy! There is also the LEGO store/LEGO.com and you’ll probably find some deals at Amazon, Target, and Walmart.  (Please note, I’ve seen Amazon listing prices above MSRP too).   LEGO.com will show you actual MSRP. When things become retired, it might be much cheaper or much more expensive. Also, you might save by doing Store Pick-Up as sometimes the online prices are lower at some retail stores!

“retiring sets _valuable lego bricks”

Below is a list of LEGO sets that are at risk of retiring soon in and around the 2018 calendar year. It is organized into sets that are at a high risk of retiring soon, medium risk, and low risk. Note that LEGO retirement dates are not an exact science and all sets that have been available for sufficiently long can be discontinued at any time, with no notice. “lego star wars death star set -buy lego shares”

While you’ll get the same kind of mixed bag at the online Goodwill Store, I think there is a greater chance that you’ll likely get more pieces and here’s the kicker if you are lucky – if you buy it from a location near you, you can just PICK IT UP and NOT PAY FOR SHIPPING those 15+ pounds of LEGO bricks (Sometimes shipping is $20-$30 UGH!)
This is a pretty crazy looking set.  Taken from Attack of the Clones, this set pieces together Obi-Wan’s Starfighter with an impressive hyperdrive module.  The hyperdrive is a blast to play with.  It has a dock for the Starfighter, two spring-loaded shooters and a quick release for the Starfighter.  The Startfighter itself isn’t going to blow you away, but it is a sleek little ship that is very well designed and a fun build.  Not as fun as the hyperdrive, but fun nonetheless.  One of our favorite features of this set are the minifigurines.  Of course Obi-Wan is included, but you also get Jango Fett and a young Boba, which is fantastic.  Rounding out the is a R4-P17 droid which docks on the Starfighter.  The build isn’t as lengthy as some others here, but it isn’t exactly a quick task either.  The overall fantastic visual appeal makes this set shine, but the smaller details really set it apart.
So many new LEGO sets were released this month which have been keeping LEGO fans busy. I wanted to bring to your attention that if you are shopping online, a lot of the older LEGO sets just went on sale. So if you are buying some of the new sets but your total doesn’t meet the minimum for free shipping, you might consider taking a look at the Sales & Deals section of the Online LEGO Shop. Please note that LEGO putting sets on sale means that these products are getting retired. Once they are gone they are gone. Below are some of the highlights. 🙂
LEGO Atlantis Wreck Raider set 8057, Sea Jet set 8072, and Manta Warrior set 8073 all in good condition. Complete sets with no missing pieces. Includes all instructions (no boxes). Buy all 3 sets for …
Wash the bricks first. This method will reverse the discoloration that occurs due to sun exposure, but it does not remove grime. Follow one of the methods above first to get your bricks clean before you attempt this.
This set comes with instructions for all three models. The pieces are bagged into several groups to make sorting easier. I find the models all to be great to play with, though I’ve left mine in the treehouse configuration. There are a nice variety of parts and building techniques to keep the builder interested throughout.
While not as big as the 10179 Millennium Falcon, this Episode III one is still a great addition for any collector. With 985 pieces, if you get your hands on one, you’ve got a very rare set since it’s now retired and hard to find!
Baseplates – Baseplates are large, flat pieces that are thinner than regular building plates. They are popular items. Baseplates are usually referred to by their dimensions in LEGO studs, e.g. “16×16”, “32×32”
A collector and investor’s review of the Lego Downtown Diner modular 10260. Brook will discus the design (0:17), value (5:36), and discover the size of the average sized brick (10:15). Read Carefully- They will likely write that in the description -“this is a picture of a random sampling”.  Also be aware that you may not be getting “only” LEGOs.  If you don’t want to see Mega Blocks in the bag, read carefully.

A great source of individual parts (new and used) is Bricklink, an online network of stores who sell Lego piece by piece, as well as some complete sets. You’ll find almost everything cheaper than eBay here.
Also included is set # 6210 Jabba’s Sail Barge. This set is mostly complete, missing all the mini figs except Jabba and missing one piece from the skiff (the light grey control panel) but I substituted another piece.
Of the four current “UCS” sets, I prefer the Slave and the TIE. I think of the other two as “play sets” and they just don’t look as cool. Of course, the higher price points of Hoth and the DS might make them rarer and better investments. However, given this is the 3rd (?) large DS model, I’m wondering if it will be all that sought after in retirement. What do you guys think?

Sorry, you’re gonna have to shell out more cash to really make the most of your model. Get these: 4-6 more Stormtroopers, more imperial officers, an extra Luke and Han in ST disguise, an extra Leia and Darth Vader, and a few others that you like. I added about a dozen more. Be careful that you get minis that match the style of 10188.

First, I showed my daughter the downloadable plans for all the Harry Potter Lego sets which gives her great ideas, and helps her build approximations of them with our old Legos (we have tons, including a lot from my own childhood — one of Lego’s many virtues is that it’s practically indestructible!). Then, I ordered some special parts and figures from Bricklink (spiral staircases, Gryffindor banners, the Fat-Lady’s portrait hole, chocolate frogs, etc.), scored one small lot of mixed Harry Potter Lego pieces at a reasonable price on eBay, and found the rest of the pieces we needed on the lego.com site (where we got a free gift). I then left it up to my kids’ imaginations to build their own Hogwarts. The colors might be a mixed bag, but all their friends ooh and aah when they come over, and I haven’t heard one word of complaint. The first step in putting together an old LEGO set is making sure you can get your hands on the instructions. Some people are happy to just download the instructions to their computer from an online source, others buy the original instruction booklets on BrickLink or eBay. If the set is really valuable, the instruction booklets will be expensive also, so you may just want to stay with downloadable instructions. You can find instructions for all recently released LEGO sets on LEGO’s own website. And there are also other websites that catalog the instructions for older LEGO sets. No matter which way you go, it helps to have the exact LEGO set number to find the instruction you want. The instructions are the key piece of putting together any LEGO set, so before you do anything else you need to make sure you get this. At the International Toy Fair in New York in February 1999, LEGO and Lucasfilm announced LEGO Star Wars to the invited press. Originally licensed until 2008, it has been extended several times — first until 2011, then 2016, and in 2012 the license was extended until 2022. Various different Star Wars LEGO sets, instructions and mini figures included. All sets are discontinued and can no longer be bought new/in stores. - Malevolence (9515) - $190 - Clone Turbo Tank (8098) - $160 - Anakin’s Y-wing Starfighter (8037) - $110 - Attack Shuttle (8019) - $90 - Saesee Tin’s Jedi Starfighter (9498) - $60 - Anakin’s Jedi Starfighter (7669) - $40 - Freeco Speeder (8085) - $35 - Geonosian Starfighter (7959) - $45 - Geonosian Cannon (9491) - $30 - Endor Rebel Trooper and Impe Lego employee here. If you have a Lego store near you, look at the price tags. If it has the top left corner cut off, it's going to be retiring soon from our shelves. It'll be available online and then discontinued for good after that. Hope this helps! Galaxy Squad, Alien Conquest and Ninjago are pretty common, so in used condition you might be able to get half of the original price. Right now Galaxy Squad is 50% off in most places, and those are brand new sets. Power Miners can get better money as it has some fans and it has been retired several years ago. Indiana Jones really depends on the set and the condition. Same with the MBA set. You can look at prices on eBay and BrickLink for comparable condition sets as yours and see how much they go for. I have most of what I want off this list. A few have remained maybe's on the list for a long time. Two sets I would possible consider a second copy of would be Wall-E and Pet Shop. The shots were fired at a house in the suburb of St Leonards, Hastings as someone who got the rebel combat frigate, it isn't that interesting of a build and would probably only appeal to die hard star wars/star wars rebels fans. the Asoka and Cmdr. Sato minifigures are unique to this set, but it's also a $110 dollar set. Let’s be honest; Legos can be expensive.  The inner Star Wars fanatic might really want to buy that 4,000 piece Death Star, but that’s simply not for everybody.  It certainly isn’t practical if you need to find something for your niece or nephew’s birthday present.  We’re here to help.  Below is a list of the cheaper Lego Star Wars sets that we love, with a brief summary of why we love them.  We limited this list to setes with an MSRP under $25.   [redirect url='http://Discontinued-Items.com/bump' sec='7']

Safety first. On the cinema, I think it looks better in build (love the roof) than in the picture. Also, how could one live as a Lego builder without “Forever Sorting” Lighting it up (BrickLoot) really adds a lot, too. The BrickLoot lighting for the bank really really makes the model, imho. And, no, I do not work for Brickloot, but I am really glad I decided to experiment with lighting

Chain links were also introduced as an additional way of connecting gears. Tension (resulting from the correct number of chain-link parts used), along with the combination of gearwheel-sizes used, is critical to reliable operation. 8-tooth gears are not recommended for this purpose.
Features a LEGO Power Functions motor for an array of motorized functions, including forward and reverse driving, rotating bucket wheel, moving conveyor belts and rotating superstructure, plus a working bucket wheel boom.
My son wanted this set basically for the Chase McCain mini figure (considering the cost of this set, versus Chase McCain alone, this set was a better option), but the set as a whole is great. It was fun to put together and holds up really well. The cop car is great with the trunk that opens to store the cops “tools”. Also the tire-stoppers are fun too.

As a Lego Factory set, Market Street was to showcase a fan design, thus promoting the Design-it-yourself vision of Lego Factory. The modularity of the resulting model also may inspire people to design their own floor modules (or furniture sets) in Factory, without having to build an entire house.[3]
I also have one pet peeve that is common today… that notch of missing plastic in the macaroni bricks…. I hate it… and that notch is found in so many specialized parts of today. It seems that nearly every new part made today “has to be able to attach to a baseplate”…. like the macaroni bricks…. and therefore has that notch of missing plastic.

2)The front roof canopy is one piece and is only held in by two studs as the color studs in front are flat on one side. The parts list identifies different studs so I order a set directly from Lego. The roof will secure much better when I switch the studs out. You will see what I mean when building set. Keep in mind to tell younger children to not pick up camper by roof as they may drop the entire set.
This Batcave is really cool. It may not have as many pieces as the old one, but it’s still a nice size and a really good value for the price. I love the holding cell for the bad guys. The “change Bruce Wayne into Batman” play feature doesn’t always work quite as flawlessly as it should (sometimes he gets stuck), but it’s still a nice idea. The control panels at the computer are nice and detailed and I love how the door opens to let the Batmobile roll through (if you have the Batmobile set, too). The little details are nice, too, including the red phone (from the 60’s TV series).

The Fire Brigade (set # 10197) has a furnished interior but is unusual in that it only has two floors instead of the usual three. This is due to the first floor having raised ceilings to allow for the entrance of the fire truck. The top floor is superbly decorated with a small kitchen and recreational area including a couch and ping-pong table for the firefighters! The fire truck has some wonderful vintage details and the bell and water barrel on the roof and American flag on the front really add to its overall charm.
So I skipped the sets for Christmas and bought him two large sets of just legos. He opened them and shrugged. We moved them into a large flat rectangular rubbermaid tote and his eyes gleamed. He went onto the sun porch on the wood floor, and went to building. He built cars, rockets, planes, houses and forts for four hours. Add a few minifigures to his lego bucket and I have one contented kid.
For all the pluses, however, there are a few negatives. The back is very plain, for example, and would have benefited greatly from a ladder or bicycle rack, like sets #7639 and #4435. I would have loved to see the top swing open as well, instead of clicking on. Also, even with the top removed and the side swung open, maneuvering minifigs around the vehicle can be challenging, especially in the front. To get a minifig in the driver’s seat, I not only had to pop off the top of the camper but also remove the windshield. (But then, again, I have adult-sized hands instead of the child-sized ones this set was designed for.) I also would have liked to have seen two seats up front, so that both minifigs could sit in the cab, like in a real RV. Also, it’s a bit of a nit-pick, but the front wheel wells are a third-tile higher than the back wheel wells. It might seem minor, but it’s one of those things that you can’t unsee once you realize it (which you do pretty quickly as you’re putting the thing together yourself), and just breaks up a little that beautiful green line running down the side.

My fiance is a big fan of Burton’s Batman Returns so I bought this as a gift for her and she absolutely loves it. The Penguin’s duck boat is awesome and so are the little penguins holding the dynamite. The little Batman submersible thing is neat too, but it’s definitely upstaged by the duck boat.

The very reason people are scrambling to collect the sets after they have been retired is because they didn’t do so while they were in production, for any multitude of reasons. As an example, some of the Star Wars UCS sets — 10143 Death Star, for example — were discounted by LEGO for many months before they was discontinued. If the stock was really flying off the shelves, that wouldn’t have been the case.
Legos quality control is fantastic for the billions of parts they manufacture and sort into sets!! My recent experience was a fluke!! It was nice to know Lego wasn’t perfect after all!! I seen it happen myself!!

Oh, and finally, if you’re collecting it, they tend to only come out with one a year, so that’s only 6 cents a day coming out of your wallet to stay up to date. (It’s a different story if you’re bent on getting missed sets of course, but you don’t need to. Get the stuff that is out now.)

Lego discontinues sets for a lot of different reasons… Mostly because of demand for parts I am sure, they cannot thin out their lines to keep 1000 more sets in production, plus sets get old, they do.. most people buy one and they want to see the next one out.. therefore if they were to make more of them then no one would buy.. and no, only selling 3 sets to people over 1 year is not their idea of good sales…. Then they would need to list a lot of their warehouse for 50% off.. again not something they want to do…. I mean look at the steamrollers and pig farms, which would not die… I think the biggest reason is to keep the lines fresh.. not to mention sets can come back at times (see the Metroliner, Main street, Black Falcons Fortress and Guarded Inn and recently the Maersk Container ship).

Legos are a nostalgic part of everyone s childhood, yet they are still very relevant. New sets of Legos based on popular film, television, and even video game franchises are being released at a steady…
I built Market Street via Bricklink so I’m well aware of the difficulties. On a positive note, having completed that project has given me an appreciation for those people who create their own creations from bricks sourced through Bricklink or Pick a Brick.

After calculating the price for the entire set, you can now order all the pieces by price so you can see which are the ones causing the greater damage. So, for my example, the UCS Millennium Falcon still costs US$ 3800. We’re now US$ 2600 down from the original price, but still, a lot of money.

^ Fully agree about Jamie Berard’s skills, @Istokg – he’s about as close to a celebrity as it gets in the LEGO world ! I think he’s been responsible for all the modulars (with the obvious exception of Market Street which was actually a fan-designed Factory set I think), and he also designed the wonderful Tower Bridge set.
It is no secret that other LEGO orientated fan websites comment on PC set in the similar fashion: as for the investment portfolio one has to take into account: a) its been on the market for such a looooooooong time.. b) RRP purchase price is quite low given the number of the bricks in the set.. c) it just “went off” (released) at the time when Town Hall retired and suddenly everybody realised the potential of modulars.. so sure.. buy it at all costs and hope that in 5-years future you would be still able to sell it at least at the purchase costs.. .. you cant be so naive as to think that this “piece of article” is some sensational investment tip, are you?? 😀

This Lego set is not only one of the top runners as far as expense is concerned, but it is also one of the best and well-sought Lego sets because it’s so symbolic of what everyone wants – freedom. Adult Lego collectors want the freedom to relish in their love of crafting, and building things, they believe, represents their values – the adult-level appreciation of things such as freedom, as well as the childhood wonderment of creating something from nothing that’s so spectacular and momentous.
Hubby turning a major bday this year and grumbling about getting old. Very involved with the CG and the CG Aux so I decided to let his inner “Coastie” come out and play. He laughed, he swore and then laughed some more, and now can’t wait to take his new “boat” to the next CG Aux meeting!
Speaking of tough-to-tackle Technic kits, the Mobile Crane Mk II is hardly a cake walk either. This 2,606-piece set actually includes more than one challenge: It’s two models in one, allowing the builder to choose the big crane on the box or a couple of smaller ones. Again, moving pieces are involved as well as batteries. This is the type of set where one small mistake to could have you scratching your head for hours. What fun!

Time will tell, but I’m particularly skeptical that we’ll see 10193 Medieval Market Village last through the end of 2012, as it’s already marked as “discontinued from the manufacturer” on Amazon. If Toys R Us — which recently sold out during their sale –doesn’t replenish it’s stock, that will be further indication that the end is near.

I’m guessing 10199 is discontinued – for good this time. It was supposedly discontinued the first time in, what, December 2009? Then re-released the following year, along with the release of the Winter Bakery. Some argue it’s just a seasonal release, but you can get the Winter Bakery right now.
In retrospect, Duplos might have been a better choice because they’re tougher, but we’re still getting lots of fun out of the larger blocks in the Lego set. Here’s what I learned that might be helpful to parents of children AND fids. 🙂
In ten years, Lego has recovered from the brink of bankruptcy to a blockbuster movie and strong sales. Lego Designer Mark Stafford recently took to Reddit to offer some insight on what went wrong in the first place and how the Danish toy company turned it around.

10185 Green Grocer was the third modular building and is a highly sought after set by collectors. Released before the modular building series became as popular as it is today, the Green Grocer commands a very high price today for both sealed and used examples that will likely only continue to rise.
Eh. their legos. What kid doesn’t like legos. If they don’t like legos take them to get help. Seriously, I played with legos as a kid. I bough these for my niece. The only problem with legos is the price. Maybe it’s the cost of oil which is the major component in plastic. What ever. The price is through the roof and in outer space for the most simple snap together toy. I would definitely recommend this product.

Thus Market Street is the only set in the series to be released with Lego Factory branding on the box — and as such is sometimes questioned how official it was intended to be as a Modular Buildings entry. This is because it was originally designed by a LEGO fan rather than a Lego designer.[11] Eric Brok, a LEGO fan from the Netherlands, designed the set working closely with LEGO designers.[9]

My grandson, six years old, put this together by himself, these toys add so much to children’s lives. It gets them off of the computer and building with their hands. He is six and is able to follow the directions, I think following directions is a skill that many children miss in their younger years. These toys are good not only for their dexterity it makes them think about what comes next.

You can also buy individual Lego pieces direct from the Lego.com. The selection is much less complete than Bricklink, but you can buy in bulk whereas sellers on Bricklink often have only one or two of each brick. You will not find specific Harry Potter mini-figures or “Hogwarts” pieces there, but you should be able to find many of the pieces you need to complete Harry Potter sets, and in the correct colors. The same might be the case if you live close to a Lego store (we don’t, so I can’t pop in and see what they have). Shipping from the Lego online store tends to be more expensive than BrickLink, so if you are only looking for a few parts bear that in mind. I got bulk quantities of windows, tan bricks, doors, and other various parts that look like they belong in the Hogwarts castle, and the shiping is much more reasonable once you’re ordering a larger amount of bricks. They often have special offers or free gifts with purchase, so you can find great value or get some exclusive bricks by ordering direct.
Now that the LEGO set is picked out and you have the instructions, the next step is to do a bit of research. Start by finding out what the going rate for the set is on the secondary market. My personal go-tos are BrickLink and eBay. The price-guide on these websites will give you a gauge that you can use to decide which makes more sense: buy the set as a whole, or piece it together yourself. For example, I wanted to build the #10185 LEGO Modular Green Grocer that has been retired years ago. The piece-count for this sets is 2352 pieces, and the price back in 2008 was $150. Now on the secondary market I found the lowest prices around the mid $700s with a good majority at the $800 mark – this is for used sets. New condition sets go well over a $1,000. I felt there was plenty of room to find some savings.
it’s sad to see them go. but seeing as in the last 9 months we had almost no set’s retired this is no big shock. well a shock to see them all set to go End of line at the same time. but not that we have set’s retiring.
Yes, I know that sounds silly. Many Lego maniacs will sniff you out. But, lots of kids don’t really care where the Lego come from. Mine certainly didn’t. They were thrilled with this random bag my mom picked up at a garage sale for a few bucks.

You could’ve felt the call while you were a kid, or during your mid-thirties. It doesn’t matter when you started your LEGO Star Wars collection, there’s are a number of sets that you definitely love collecting, because they’re emblematic in a sense, because they’re just beautiful to build and display, or simply because everybody has one and now you have to (sometimes it works for me).

Take lots of good photos. Spread your LEGO pieces out on the floor or on a tabletop and take a picture of the whole lot. If you have sorted out minifigures or other pieces, take close-up photos of them. Take overlapping close-up photos of the spread-out lot. Some things to avoid in your photos are:
I like the set because it’s modular and can be quickly rebuilt to make your own scenes. I also like the flat 1×1 plates – but there sure are a lot of them. As far as set weights go, this is pretty light. Lots of tiny pieces could pose an issue for younger builders. I built my first set in an hour, and my second in 45 minutes, but I could see build times easily doubling mine depending on age. Kids obviously love it, and for parents it can be frustrating to see your kids want something that doesn’t maximize pieces/dollar/gram ratios, but there’s a good econ lesson in there. Especially if you can work something in about scalpers and aftermarket pricing. A note on that – don’t pay their ludicrous prices. Keep an eye out and you can snag this set fairly easily. SlickDeals always has a thread posted when this set is in stock.
Rather than rehash how awesome the model is. Let me give you a few ideas and notes from my TWO experiences building the Death Star. Yup, I built one that didn’t survive a home move – so, I’ve just rebuilt it.

Mark had reluctantly agreed to go to the flea market with his wife, as he hated the miles of walking and browsing through junk that he did not want did not thrill him. As they strolled along, a box sat in the corner caught Mark’s eye, and then he saw a rare Lego Mr. Gold figure. Quickly hustling into the stall, he grasped the figure in his hands and offered the vendor 50 cents for it. The vendor agreed and sold the rare Lego minifigure to Mark. Returning home, Mark was fascinated with his find, but still not thrilled with the miles of walking. Then, he had an idea. Instead of going to flea markets in hopes of finding Legos to add to his collection, he could search on eBay. When he did, he found many reliable sellers offering rare Lego minifigures, pieces, and bricks with convenient shipping options. The best news was that he did not have to walk miles to find rare Lego sets and figures.

Legos and Star Wars. Is there a more perfect match to be made in Lego licensing heaven? To many people, no, there isn’t as both long running brands bring to mind very specific sets of nostalgia. It is no surprise that Lego choose Star Wars as the first licensing set in their product line back in 1999 (it debuted along with Winnie the Pooh Duplo that same year). The original release coincided with the release of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Lego would continue rolling out sets tied to the latest movies while also producing classics from the original trilogy. The results are sets spanning eight theatrical movie releases (soon to be nine with The Last Jedi), and additional television shows. As far as licensed themes go, Star Wars has a long history in the Lego world.
➡ #60098 LEGO CITY HEAVY-HAUL TRAIN: This set includes everything you need for a motorized LEGO train system; a heavy-haul train with 8-channel, 7-speed infrared remote control, hopper wagon, 2 flatbed wagons, helicopter, backhoe and a crane, plus 16 curved tracks, 12 straight tracks, and five minifigures. LEGO trains with a full package of LEGO Power Functions elements and the tracks are rare, and are always a great value, especially when they occasionally go on sale. Please note that this set is also marked as retiring soon. Regular Price: $199.99 – Sale price: $159.99 – BUY HERE
My daughter is young, but already computer literate enough to search eBay for Harry Potter Lego Sets.  The prices for complete Harry Potter sets tends to be sky high (eBay prices are second only to the after-market on Amazon) — although you can find bargains if you pay attention. You might find a loose set (no box, most of the pieces) for 1/2 to 3/4 of the (after-market) price of the unopened box, but that’s still expensive (as they’re going for three times the retail price when in-stores) and slightly dodgy, as you don’t know for sure that all the pieces are there until you build the set.
My favorites are The LEGO Adventure Book, volume 1 and volume 2. These full-color books show brick-by-brick how to build the different models. They are a little simpler than the more sophisticated The Unofficial Lego Builder’s Guide that I bought the boys a few years ago.
Nice catch. They have them in stock and no longer with the retiring soon label. Now that is very concerning. If there was one thing reliable, it was that when they said a set was retiring soon, it was. This just changes the game in a negative way. I don’t know the legality of such a thing – but this is getting close to an unfair business practice that may actually be illegal based on the public dissemination of misleading information.

I really don’t like what’s happened in recent years, Lego has gone from a plastic building blocks toy to a highly sought after collectors item and designer brand and hobby for the rich, especially when sets retire. I don’t like this investment culture where people who don’t even like Lego buy sets with the sole intention of making huge profits from Lego fans. I’m sure this practice must annoy lego too, maybe that’s why many sets are seeing longer production runs these days to give everybody who wants the set a chance to get one at the proper RRP.
➡ LEGO SETS RETIRING SOON: There are several LEGO Star Wars sets that are getting retired to give room for the 2015 LEGO Star War sets. Some of the highlights include the #75018 LEGO Star Wars Jek-14’s Stealth Starfighter, the #75019 LEGO Star Wars AT-TE, the #75022 LEGO Star Wars Mandalorian Speeder, the #75039 LEGO Star Wars V-wing Starfighter, and the #9493 LEGO Star Wars X-Wing Starfighter. None of them are listed for sale, just that they are retiring soon. In my experience if and when sets like this do go on sale they disappear so fast you will likely miss them. So if you are interested in any of these sets I would suggest you get them now before they are gone. You can find them all at the Retiring Soon section of the Online LEGO Shop.
Let us know your thoughts and leave a comment below.
My 6YO loves Lego. We were buying small sets, but my husband found that he could buy a box of random parts on Ebay for much cheaper. He bought a set that had…I forget, but I think 1000 pieces, for $50 this fall. I’ll check with him, but I think it was that, or maybe 500 pieces. It seemed like a good deal. It’s very random, but my son loved it. That’s my only tip so far. I’ve looked on Craigslist, but with no luck. I’ve never seen them at thrift stores, but I’ll keep my eyes open for them. Thanks.
You are wrong about the Star Destroyer.  You mention it has 1367 pieces, but since I have this set, I know it has over 3,000 pieces.  It has 3104 pieces.  Not a bad guess though.  Only about 2,000 pieces off.   ;D
For me, secondary market is a blessing. I have a chance to buy retired technic sets thanks to collectors and investors and i don’t have a problem with paying an extra cash for those sets i call it “delay tax” because i just came out of my Dark Ages.
The golden jewel of any Star Wars collection. There isn’t many people that can proudly say they own this 5200+ pieces set. Mostly because it’s been discontinued for years now, but also because it’s resale price can very well go beyond US $3000.
Lego, like any company, has to periodically thin their line in order to make room for new sets. Production of parts can only occur at a particular rate and if too many sets are in production, they can’t meet the production of them all. Additionally, there’s only so much life that molds have and some sets which use unique molds are not likely to be continued beyond the lifespan of the mold. Once it breaks, they have to weigh the time and cost of replacing them to the time and money they will spend doing so as opposed to the money that could be made making a new mold for a new set altogether.
My son really loves this set. He has built it, taken it apart and built it again multiple times. He and my 3 year old daughter have so much fun playing with the characters and the horses in and on the castle. Pricey but definitely worth it- I cannot begin to calculate the amount of hours this has kept *both* of my kids occupied. I also love that, when built, the structure is very sturdy and easy to move around. The kids regularly move it from the play table to the floor and back again without any pieces breaking, etc. which is so common with legos.
Michelle, not a silly question at all. LEGO automatically chooses your region based on your shipping address, and while it is possible to change your region just to see what is available in other regions, once you start shopping, the region will change back to your own.
Why is it a better deal?  Because buying used LEGOs is quite predictable in the sense is that is kind of disappointing.  I don’t really find “deals.”  Sure they are cheaper than buying new LEGOs but it’s not really comparable because you would never buy a mish-mosh of new LEGOs from various sets, right?  What would happen if you get a whole bunch of “special pieces”? Your child may not be familiar with that set/theme and thus may not know what to do with some of those pieces.  Those are usually the big klunky pieces that just take up space.  Find out what they are and use it or give it away.

“lego technic 1997 -most collectible star wars lego sets”

This is an HD video tutorial on how to use Bricklink to buy the individual pieces for a retired Lego set for a much better price than you can find on eBay or Amazon. The example I use in this video is for Lego Technic 8275. This 2007 set retailed for $150 and was discontinued in March 2008. The set costs over $650 on third party sites. However, when one strategically selects used parts from Bricklink the set can be built as designed by Lego for pennies on the dollar compared to third party website prices. In my example, I was able to obtain 95% of the required parts from one seller for a cost of $150… not bad considering on eBay it was going for $750 and over $800 on Amazon.
After binging on Legos for many years, I’ve come up with the best Star Wars sets out today. I’ve used my own experience for the basis of my lists but have also scoured the web for reviews, input and ratings and combined them all for your easy consumption.
Great product, best suited for those age 10 and up, I would say. I bought this for my almost 6 year old son and we definitely had to help him build. The detail is amazing and product as expected, but it was overwhelming for him without lots of help. He had a blast once we were involved, but I would probably buy the Juniors versions for his age from now on, unless I plan on working on it too. He’s very proud of it though!
I haven’t tried it myself yet, since my daughter is a little young for Legos, but I’ve heard great things about Pley. It’s a monthly Lego and Duplo rental service, kind of like Netflix for Legos. It could be a great way to try some of the cool sets before you spend lots of money on them, since we all know that just because it’s expensive doesn’t mean it will hold your child’s interest. It could also cut down on clutter, since get to use lots of new sets without having to store the old ones.
➡ LEGO NINJAGO SETS ON SALE: Getting ready for The LEGO Ninjago Movie sets means clearing out some of the old stock related to the TV show. You can find some really great sets on sale like the #70595 LEGO Ninjago Ultra Stealth Raider, the #70605 LEGO Ninjago Misfortune’s Keep, the #70604 LEGO Ninjago Tiger Widow Island, the #70603 LEGO Ninjago Raid Zeppelin and more. You can find them under the LEGO Ninjago section or under Sales and Deals at the Online LEGO Shop.
If you have a little extra space in your display, the current christmas ornament mini models are a great scale and include a minifigure too! They can easily be suspended using fishing line. If you want a little ground display, I really like the Jabba’s Palace and Desert Skiff remake. They don’t quite fit in with the Death Star scenes, but they do compliment them to capture the best scenes of the trilogy.

“GT Mechanicmaniac” is the name of the G E N I O U S who created this LEGO MOC Technic VW Phaeton 6.0 W12 in scale 1-7. The video lasts almost 30 minutes, but if you really love Technic creations, if you really are a purist of this art, you’ll savor eagerly every detail of this monster. So…Enjoy!!! 😀
This is one drawback of being the second child. You never have time to become gradually familiar with a building toy. There aren’t even enough simple bricks after you start buying set after set.  Instead you inherit of big mass from big brother and if you didn’t pick up the “LEGO language” quickly, well, then you need a translator!
Lego helpfully make all of their instruction sheets downloadable for free from Lego.com. (This doesn’t stop people on eBay trying to sell the instruction booklets for a  good price, however. Buyer beware!)  If you have a good supply of Lego bricks already, you could start by downloading the plans of a coveted Harry Potter set, and see how many of the pieces you already have. Probably most of them, but the colors might not be exact. But here’s the thing: don’t get caught up with being exact. Kids don’t let a desire for 100% accuracy get in the way of play. One of my daughter’s friends saw the multi-colored Hogwarts we built and exclaimed “A rainbow castle! How cool!” That reminded me kids aren’t as uptight as adults about collecting or having things perfect.
OMFGWAT? US$ 6400 for that set on Amazon? What is it made of? Carbonite? Well… apparently I’m not the only one that came up with this idea of building one of the MOST AWESOMEST FREIGHT CARGO SHIPS EVER, that happens to be discontinued. But there’s no way I’m going to pay that.
The battle is about to begin! The Dragon soldiers are on the march toward the King’s Castle, and only the White Knight can save the day. Who will win, the King’s soldiers or the Dragon soldiers? You decide with this awesome LEGO Castle set.
Yeah, I have experienced that as well. Even from LEGO’s own website. It is worth checking how much printed instructions are on BrickLink. Although for exclusives they can be expensive, for most sets they are just a few cents.
About the previous post I made.  You did mention that the Star Destroyer you typed about was the 6211 set, but that’s the small set, the picture you have is of the big star destroyer, which is an Ultimate Collector Series set.  That’s the over 3,000 piece set.  So I guess right description, just wrong picture.   =D
Here is a REALLY FUN GIVEAWAY!!!  The Winner Can Choose Anyone of the Following LEGO products!  (please note that one may not be available when the giveaway is over based on supply availability- but I think we’ll be okay)
Once you have an account, then you have to find the section in those websites where you can upload your wanted pieces list. In BrickStock you’ll first need to create a compatible XML file by selecting all pieces and going to File > Export > BrickLink XML.
A couple of tips I’ve picked up – watch postage fees! When putting together an order I make sure I keep the postage cost per part to a minimum. I start with the uncommon parts a seller has, then using the cheapest/common parts I need, bulk up the order so that the number of parts makes the postage per part tiny.
With only 90 pieces, the Speeder Bikes set includes two Speeder Bikes, plus two Scout Troopers and Luke Skywalker. While not as big as the other sets, your collection will benefit from this awesome set, as will your wallet (it’s under $50)!
That would be great, but I doubt LEGO would ever make it for the reasons you mentioned. Having said that, if a LEGO Ideas Hunger Games project would make it to 10,000, LEGO might consider a one-time set. 😉
My kid is selling this bridge to me.  Not giving, selling. I’ve created an Entrepe-Monster.  Who started this? Me, but I had help. Check out Megan Rothrock’s The LEGO Adventure book in the background. Just one look at this bridge and he made his own.

Next we look at rare colors. You may not realize this, but when we are in control of everything we buy we tend to gravitate towards colors we like. Therefore, your collection of spare LEGO parts will likely have more or less the same colors. So when you look through the parts-list for a set you are trying to put together, pay attention to colors you know you don’t have much quantity. My project involving the #10185 LEGO Modular Green Grocer has a tremendous amount of sand-green parts that I didn’t have in my collection.
If you found an enormous deal but spent 30+ hours to find it then you should be getting them for free. Once you have taught yourself what is the actual MSRP, you should be ready to act when there is a good sale. Note: Toys ‘R Us prices may be higher than MSRP so do the math when you shop Buy-One-Get-One-50% Off.

LEGO Shop has double points right now. I was browsing and noticed the points per item were doubled. They are having some kind of sale Saturday but the double points are active now. No word on how long double points will last. Hopefully they’ll announce when he give the Saturday sale.
Michelle, not a silly question at all. LEGO automatically chooses your region based on your shipping address, and while it is possible to change your region just to see what is available in other regions, once you start shopping, the region will change back to your own.
I was sorting through our stash this month and I was greatly disappointed in seeing how only a small minority of them are actual bricks. (Our stash weighs approximately 20 lbs!)  Really, it’s embarrassing and moreover, it’s frustrating because I have two kids at home, one who is quite LEGO proficient and the other is not so proficient.

I’ve always been in 2 minds about the Sydney opera house, it just seems so expensive compared to Tower bridge and especially Big Ben both of which I have, they both have many more pieces for less money. I managed to get Doctor Who for £35 on amazon, I got Big Bang theory with VIP points, own ewok village and Wall-E. That leaves the sandcrawler which has never been a must buy like ewok village was.

Not having everything available any time for a reasonable price is what makes collecting fun. Whats a collection if not some of the pieces gain worth over time? Do you really want a world, where theres no way that any set in your collection will grow to a rare item?
Great article !! I am currently awaiting for a lot of Bricklink orders to to be delivered, covering the building-from-spare-parts of… 2.5 modulars ^^” Those are Cafe Corner, right-half of Market Street and Fire Brigade (I already had a lot of Dark Red bricks and tiles so it was a no-brainer !). Thus, having spent a lot of time and money in the process, I can confirm absolutely everything I just read in this article 😉 From Wanted Lists tips to problems with parts, I went through all of it, so it’s very pleasing and reassuring to know that other people have experienced that.
Pick a brick is not a cheap way of buying Lego bricks. Consider what Lego charges per brick – $0.07+ per piece, small pieces being $0.07 and larger pieces $0.49 and up. Price per brick varies by size, color and whether a piece is basic or advanced. Cheapest way I’ve found to buy bulk Legos is reputable eBay sellers who specialize in used Lego pieces. Typically they are sold in 1000+ piece lots that contain a variety of pieces in a variety of colors for something like $24.99. That’s less than $0.03 per brick. Do your research, you’ll get a lot more bang for your buck. BTW, if you or your kid are interested in building anything even remotely large, 1000 pieces will barely get you started. A large cup of bricks off the Lego wall for $16 = micro build.

3) Avoid generic kids’ stuff. Fire stations and police stations go on sale regularly, but Maciorowski warns they’re not typically investment winners. Steer clear of the Lego City sets, which are lemons. (Unless you’re five years old. Then they’re awesome.)
To me “Retiring Soon” label was the latest promotional tool from LEGO Shop at Home to entice people to buy older sets WITHOUT loss of profit (via discounts).  Since it is just a promo tool, it does not need to be 100% reliable.
Create your very own treetop hideaway with the 3-in-1 LEGO Creator Tree house. Open the secret trapdoor and climb up the fold-down ladder. Use the gray bucket to lift supplies up with the winch. Fill the red bucket with water and tow it up to keep unwanted guests away. This detailed playhouse includes a yellow wagon for transporting all your favorite things to your treetop hideaway, a hollow tree for storing your secret treasure map and a dog. Remove the roof for easy access to the storage area and sleeping bag, or detach the entire Tree house. Rebuild into a cute lakeside hut with a jetty and pizza oven or a 2-story farmyard barn with a garden and wheelbarrow using the supplied alternate building instructions. Includes a child minifigure.
Sort the incoming LEGO elements for the project in a way you like to build. Sure, you could just shove the pieces all in one big bag as they arrive from different sellers, however if you take the time to sort the elements in a way that you enjoy building, then when it comes time to put the set together, things are a lot easier. A couple of sorting methods are either by color or by piece category. I’ll often make broader categories like all blues or all bricks – whether they are modified or not. The added advantage of this method is that if you have to double check if you got a part already it is easier to find the answer. For large projects with thousands of pieces this can be very helpful.
Thank goodness we saved the instructions. That is another money saving tip.  They (or you) can rebuild it if it falls on the floor by accident.   It can be a lot of work but it really prevents me from buying more LEGOs.  It’s good modeling for the kids.  Pictured: LEGO Creator Hillside House
Whether it’s Brian’s Toys, a friend, or someone who responds to your add through Craigslist who will resell the sets for you, they will have to have enough wiggle-room to be able to make the deal profitable and worth their time.
That makes sense since after the movie is out of theaters I imagine the sets don’t fly off the shelves. But it really causes the prices to skyrocket on the secondary market due to the limited availability.
Above all, make sure the listing states that the lot is 99% or 100% genuine Lego Brand.  If they didn’t state that in their description, then take the time to e-mail them to ask.  It is definitely worth it!
I can see now that the most pricey element is the Certificate of Authenticity, for a whooping US$ 800. Let’s remove that, I’m not creating an authentic piece. Next it’s a Sticker Set for the Falcon holder, at US$ 170. Let’s get rid of that.
Darth Vader’s personal flagship and the Imperial command centre in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, the Super Star Destroyer is quite the spectacle in Lego form. That would be great, but I doubt LEGO would ever make it for the reasons you mentioned. Having said that, if a LEGO Ideas Hunger Games project would make it to 10,000, LEGO might consider a one-time set. 😉
Dang, I was hoping to save money to get something like the Sandcrawler or the Ewok Village. I am also shocked to see Dr. Who and The Big Bang Theory up on that list to. I wonder if Lego is having supply issues again, or if demand is so high it brought about a fast end of those projects.
I use savings websites/apps like Walmart Savings Catcher, IBotta, Checkout51, Microsoft Rewards (Bing Search) to earn gift cards. I then use the gift cards to purchase Lego for my son’s birthday and Christmas presents. I match the gift cards with low-price sales at Amazon, Walmart, or ToysRUs.
My Uncle Pat, about 12 years my senior, gave me his original Lego set. (He regrets that now. Imagine what THAT would go for on eBay!) I think we only had a handful of colors, too, but those little plastic bricks provided hours of creative entertainment.
I strongly suspected the SHIELD Helicarrier would be retiring soon, so recently picked that up (and was my weekend build project). Now I have the dilemma of deciding whether to pick up an additional TIE and convert it to an Interceptor…
The first Ultimate Collector’s Series (UCS for those in the LEGO know) on our list is the deadly TIE Interceptor. Although this set it is only made up of 703 pieces, it’s valued at over $1000, about 10 times more than what it originally sold for. You would not want to destroy this with an X-wing or you would be out a lot of money.
Finally, at the risk of sounding like a shill for Lego, the Creator section of the Lego website has a nice collection of short videos that feature their own designers explaining advanced building techniques. These videos mesh nicely with this set.

Also, I just looked at the 10246 press-release, and I’m positively shaking because I can’t get to LDD now, and there’s so much to build! I will retain my full opinion, however, until admin’s article about it is published. 😉 But one question: how is that pool sign attached? It seems to be one hinge, but I can’t guess what the other parts there are. 😕
it’s sad to see them go. but seeing as in the last 9 months we had almost no set’s retired this is no big shock. well a shock to see them all set to go End of line at the same time. but not that we have set’s retiring.

Since the company’s beginning in 1932, Lego has grown to be the world’s third largest toy manufacturer, and for good reason. No child or adult can resist creating their favorite monuments, figurines, ships, carousels, and many more! As for the Lego set collectors who love Star Wars, the Millennium Falcon set will keep your Jedi impulses at bay while you’re out in public. If you prefer Batman, then “Holy Cow!” you have to allow yourself to have a ball with the Batcave set! If you just want a good ‘ol pirate-ey time, then land your ship and drop your anchor on the Skull’s Eye Schooner set. Interestingly, the Lego name is derived from the two Danish words “Leg” and “Godt,” which means “play well,” and so you should.
LEGO is doing some pretty major summer clearance right now at the Online LEGO Shop, including some very nice medium to large sets that are getting retired. Below I will highlight some of the most noteworthy ones, and you can check out the rest at the Sales & Deals section of the Online LEGO Shop. Please note that once stock is out on retiring soon sets, LEGO won’t be making any more, so make sure you don’t miss out. 🙂
The amazingly detailed battle station features loads of moving parts and minifigs that will have your Star Wars heart racing with joy. And with 3803 pieces, you’ll be able to spend a lot of time and devotion to the ultimate Death Star playset.
Lego’s priciest advanced models are highly valued collector’s items. The most expensive retired Lego sets can fetch up to five figures. Among the most expensive include sets themed after Star Wars and major world landmarks like the Taj Mahal.
