“large lego sets for adults cheap +lego sets retiring 2016 review”

There are three versions of the pump. The old Generation one pump, the new Generation two pump (both of these are spring-loaded) and the small pump without a spring (designed for use with motors). The Generation one pump is red, while the Generation two pump is yellow and has a larger contact pad at the top of the pump. Generation three pumps are now available in translucent blue.
BEST LEGO SET EVER!!! There is absolutely nothing bad I can say about this set I have been a Batman fan for YEARS and love all three of the movies staring Christian Bale and this set looks EXACTLY like the tumbler in the movies. There are many points of interest that I chould go over but i’ll focus on three. 1). The thing when fully built IS HUGE for a Lego set and is as heavy as a brick the back tires alone are pretty big. 2).THE MINIFIGS ARE A HUGE PLUS the Joker minifig is so awesome and I love how detailed His face is, Batman is the same as in some sets from a few years ago but I didnt have one until i got this set 3). Awesome in general

“Holy Lego set, Batman!” as Robin would probably say following the purchase of this awe-inspiring Lego set. This Lego set is one of the best around, with an array of detailed pieces and intricate designs. Some of the pieces included in the set are Alfred the Butler, Batman (black suit), Bruce Wayne, Robin, Mr. Freeze (with complete weapon assembly), Mr. Freeze’s Henchman, The Penguin, Robin’s jet-ski, the Batblade ice sledge, and the Penguin’s submarine.

The Fisher-Price Imaginext DC Super Friends Gotham City Jail is exactly what your little guy would want to fulfill his Batman playing dreams with. And with this set, he’ll be locking up the bad guys right alongside his favorite superhero.
Whether you enjoy building and displaying your LEGO works of art and sharing them with friends who also love the classic toys or simply building and rebuilding whenever you see fit, this compilation is well worth exploring. From Disney castles to the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars to the White House to the Seattle Space Needle to toy shops and beyond, there are plenty of super-fabulous options to select from. Spend rainy afternoons erecting LEGO masterpieces…or any other time you are in the mood to “build”! Have fun, and remember to pick up those little pieces! 🙂
The Znap line was an obvious reaction to K’Nex, an American construction toy company that was founded in 1993. Like those of K’Nex, Znap pieces were more elaborate than traditional Lego bricks, and could allow for more architectural creations, like bridges. Ultimately, Znap proved to be an inferior competitor and failed to catch on. To make matters worse, Lego even used those highly unprofitable Technic motors in some of the sets.
I would just like to add to your post, they also make other modular sets that are not exclusive to the Creator Expert line, but they are exclusive or somewhat close. The best two examples that I can give you would be the Monster Fighters Haunted House which actually can fit into your LEGO city, if you want to incorporate it. The other set which came out earlier this year is the Bike Shop & Cafe set.
LEGO 10243 Parisian Restaurant came out in January 2014 as the ninth modular building. The unique design of this set features more intricate detailing throughout, at the expense of the overall size of the building, which is smaller than previous modulars.

Lego City is a theme under which Lego building sets are released. As the name suggests, Lego City sets are based on city life, with the models depicting city and emergency services (such as police and fire), airport, train, construction, and civilian services.

It’s hard to say what the new piece for 2017 will be. Recently, modular sets for a Library and Natural History Museum were shot down on LegoIdeas.com. Maybe because Lego has it in mind to make those types of buildings next? Also on Lego Ideas, a train station received 10,000 votes and is in the review process (although if approved, that probably wouldn’t be available until 2018). I think a Police Station makes sense, but there is already a lot of police themed lego pieces in the Creator series (plus cops aren’t really getting too much love these days). I think a church is too divisive. If you’re going to include a religious building (and I really don’t see Lego doing this), you’ll have to include a temple, mosque, etc. to be inclusive. I would personally like to see a post office, as many of the modular buildings have mailboxes built into them, and it would make sense to “connect” with that feature. Other thoughts, not on your list would be a restaurant row (maybe a side by side like the Pet Shop and Apartment Building) – one side a Japanese restaurant and the other a pizza place. Also, a Veterinary Hospital (although the Pet Shop covers the animal side of things) would be cool. Also, a Health Club/Gym, Dentist’s Office, Toy Store, Pharmacy, or Ice Cream Parlor are other ideas. I guess a Candy Shop wouldn’t make sense, if candy is “illegal” in the modular world (based on the Detective’s Office).

Also known as Dark Shark II or Black Skull, this Lego set is pretty detailed as the aftcastle can be accessed by opening its sidewalls as well as detaching a piece of the poop deck. You can also move the rudder by turning the steering wheel! One customer wrote, “…there is no set that can beat the Skull’s Eye Schooner.” This set is definitely in the running to be one of the best Lego sets because it has a plethora of cool features such as a compass next to the steering wheel and an odd postbox where you can find a glass and a gun.
My view is that the modular buildings are must-haves for AFOLs. They are expensive, but they are beautiful. If you think you might want to collect them, buy the current ones now before they are discontinued. As you say, they skyrocket in price once they are no longer available from LEGO direct.

As such, the only things that truly make a specific Lego set for adults is the complexity of the set and the likelihood that an adult will be properly engaged through playing with it. While many adults choose to play with only challenging Lego sets; others will buy sets simply because they enjoy the theme, regardless of the skill level involved in the undertaking.
There were not enough of the thin blocks. The building plate was large enough, but it can only be used as a base plate. if you ever needed a large plate to complete the roof of something, you aren’t going to find it in this kit.
I have only bought new modulars for list price, so I can’t advise too much here. Which modulars will you be bricklinking? I imagine that CC, MS and GG will be incredibly expensive no matter how you get them since I have heard that some of the parts (I think the blues in CC and the sand green in GG) are quite expensive. I seem to remember people saying it is cheaper to bricklink though.
Then one day one of my friends recommended a “natural remedy” doctor. ‘Oh great!’ I thought. A witch doctor who’s going to put some fake voodoo hex on my feet and tell me it hurts. No thanks. I’d rather go to a regular doctor who will hurt me the old fashioned way. But I decided to give it a try.

So I skipped the sets for Christmas and bought him two large sets of just legos. He opened them and shrugged. We moved them into a large flat rectangular rubbermaid tote and his eyes gleamed. He went onto the sun porch on the wood floor, and went to building. He built cars, rockets, planes, houses and forts for four hours. Add a few minifigures to his lego bucket and I have one contented kid.
Most of the remaining Harry Potter Lego sets were apparently snapped up in stores during the Christmas rush, and now it’s hard to find Harry Potter Lego sets at a reasonable price. (Evidently, it’s not a new thing for investors to buy up collectible toys like this, and resell them online for two or three times the price.) What’s a geeky Dad to do? I want to encourage creative play and nurture her individual interests, but the prices of these hard-to-find Harry Potter Legos sets are eye-popping!

^ I agree – it’s one thing creating scarcity in order to get a buying rush, but it’s quite another to miss out on half your market by cutting it too soon. I’ve been expecting run extensions for the modulars, especially GE.
One more themed set before we finish up our list, and what would we be without mentioning one of the newest Lego sets out, celebrating the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, Dead Men Tell No Tales. While previous Pirates sets have focused on the set pieces from their respective movies, Lego’s flagship (pun intended) set for this year’s release is one of the best we’ve seen yet. Silent Mary is the name of one of the newest ships from the film, and Lego have gone above and beyond in recreating this destructible, decaying set. The entire piece comes with eight minifigures, two ghost sharks (as seen prominently in the trailers for the film), and a rowboat used in the film by Jack Sparrow and his two new friends, Henry and Carina. From the cannons to the three masts of the ship, it’s an excellent build, measuring in at 26 inches long and 18 inches high, and including nearly 2,300 pieces for fun building excitement. We’re big fans of the appearances of masts and the wrecked sales, so if you’re a Pirates fan—or you love ships—you’re sure to have fun building this massive set.
That’s actually a really good strategy. While the modulars are some of the more expensive LEGO sets, you could technically all own the sets in the series free just by getting extra sets that you later resell.
TECHNIC Figures are figures that appeared in TECHNIC sets, especially from the CyberSlam/Competition line. They were first introduced in 1986 in the Arctic Action line, and were produced until 2001. They are much larger and have several more joints than the standard minifigure, including bendable elbow and knee-joints. Each figure comes already assembled and is not meant to come apart, but parts can be popped off by pulling too hard. They can connect to both standard LEGO System bricks and on TECHNIC parts, and TECHNIC pegs can fit in their hands. 27 different kinds of Technic figures were created,[6] some sets included the same figures but with different accessories and stickers.
TECHNIC has always had a variety of different electric motors. Some are connected via built-in batteries, others use connected battery boxes, and still others run on mainly electricity using a transformer. Most modern sets use batteries.

^ I agree, they do risk straining the bubble a bit with the minifigs generating a certain collecting culture, but look at it this way, if they sell modulars per customer, I bet they’ll not be complaining 🙂
Unlike many other toys, Legos have the ability to appeal to nearly all age groups, and a single Lego set can be fun to put together with the whole family. Legos are the combination of a puzzle, construction set, sculpture, and toy, and are equally stimulating for children and adults alike.

Head out to the lighthouse quick with the LEGO City Coast Guard Patrol. There’s a couple stranded in a sinking dinghy and 3 sharks are swimming nearby. Launch the submarine and helicopter from the Coast Guard Patrol boat to get there fast. Rescue the couple with the life preservers, pull them into the helicopter and scare the sharks away with the water cannons. Includes 3 sharks and 6 minifigures with accessories: Pilot, captain, crew member, rescuer, man and woman.
My 6 year old son just had a major surgery, and so he got lots of “surgery gifts” after. This was one of them. He asked me for this because he is a huge lego fan. This set has a TON of pieces, but he was able to complete it on his own. The functionality of this set is really cool. Lots of moving parts, booby-traps, etc. I was playing with him and was enjoying messing around with all of the gadgets on this one. It also comes with several of the batman characters too. It will take a young kid about 2 hours to build, due to the amount of pieces. If an adult or older child helps you can probably knock it out within an hour. Very cool set!
I also missed the Cafe Corner… though looking back it’s because I didn’t have the money. I’d say these are more for the AFOL who commit to City designs. So the only advantage to building minifig scale streets is if you want to make a huge Lego town. Lets face it… the direction it’s heading is far more expensive then we imagine. I like many different themes and would rather get a lot of different stuff than build a town. I feel bad about missing out on a cool series of sets, but every year I see plenty of other cool sets to keep my wallet empty. Unless you really like modern city don’t bother… the Ebay re-seller world makes collecting Lego horrible.
Space Port was released four years after Launch Command and is often seen as a continuation of that theme due to its similar logo and status as a Lego Town Subtheme. Space Port took the Launch Command concept and expanded upon it into new areas such as astronaut training and scientific experiments. The Space Port theme took a slightly less realistic approach to set design compared to Launch command, and some sets featured special Light & Sound bricks to enhance playability.
3. Bane – This will definitely be a hot minifig when the new movie comes out this Summer. He looks great. Lots of detail, including the back printing. Not my favorite Batman villain, but nice to have.

If you recall, the September LEGO Store Calendar mentioned two exclusive sets that were slated for early VIP release from September 14 to 30. We now know that the first is the highly publicized UCS Millennium Falcon (75192), while the second is the LEGO Creator Expert Winter Village Station (10259). The latter is the fifth holiday-themed, D2C Creator Expert set to be released by LEGO, following the likes of the Winter Village Market (10235), Santa’s Workshop (10245), Winter Toy Shop (10249), and the Winter Holiday Train (10254). read more
To me “Retiring Soon” label was the latest promotional tool from LEGO Shop at Home to entice people to buy older sets WITHOUT loss of profit (via discounts).  Since it is just a promo tool, it does not need to be 100% reliable.
While most of the LEGO Star Wars faithful has now fixed their gaze on the grandest reveal that LEGO has slated this Force Friday II, it seems that we can expect more LEGO Star Wars sets to be unveiled towards the end of the year and even until the first quarter of 2018. read more
We started getting ready for our day and I told him now he could open the last gift under the tree. He opened it up and it was a Lego sorting box. He was thankful, but when I told him, “I thought you’re going to need it for this.” and I brought the BIG box out of the other room. He was speechless! One of those priceless moments!
Any Lego Star Wars set that is still readily available, i.e. not retired, in 2017 could qualify for our list.  That is a pretty broad list and we did consider quite a few, but there are some other ways we narrowed it down.  There are a couple of dozen sets which are little more than a minifigure and a small ship or another accessory.  If one of these blew us away, we would consider it, but given the wealth of options available, that didn’t happen.
As much I’d like those three there are several other Direct To Consumer (D2C) sets that are higher on my list, therefore all three of them are a pass. If I was to chose one it would be 75059 – Sandcrawler.
This is newer set of previously released Lego Jaba’s Palace set. My son like this one much more then old one and have a lot of fun to play with. All essential figures are included (some of them are very difficult to find as for example Han Solo in carbonite)and what is most important, this set price is amazing – 112,00 USD when in Europe you will have to pay around 200,00 USD. Even in Lego online shop in USA you have to spend 119,00 USD plus costs of delivery.
Conclusion: If you can get it for MSRP of $34.99, it’s a buy. I wouldn’t suggest paying collectible prices, as LEGO will undoubtedly be producing more of these, and will probably create different Minecraft sets in the near future. At least I hope they do. I would love to add more modules to this set, and I’ll be interested to see tiny zombies, skeletons, and mob animals.
There are a lot of reasons that LEGO might stop producing a set, and I would assume it’s a balance between the cost of doing production runs of the necessary pieces, the projected volume of sales, and their availability of SKUs.
➡ LEGO FRIENDS SETS ON SALE: A number of LEGO Friends sets are also retiring soon and are on sale, including the large #41134 LEGO Friends Heartlake Performance School (with a school bus!), the #41132 LEGO Friends Heartlake Party Shop, and a few small but sweet sets, like the #41305 LEGO Friends Emma’s Photo Studio. You can find them under the LEGO Friends section or under Sales and Deals at the Online LEGO Shop.
Also included are three blue and gray lion soldiers. One is equipped with a longbow, a quiver, and a helmet. Another is equipped with a helmet and a crossbow. The last has a chest plate, a large shield, a sword, and a helmet with a visor (introduced in LEGO Kingdoms Escape From Dragon’s Prison 7187).
Lego, like any company, has to periodically thin their line in order to make room for new sets. Production of parts can only occur at a particular rate and if too many sets are in production, they can’t meet the production of them all. Additionally, there’s only so much life that molds have and some sets which use unique molds are not likely to be continued beyond the lifespan of the mold. Once it breaks, they have to weigh the time and cost of replacing them to the time and money they will spend doing so as opposed to the money that could be made making a new mold for a new set altogether.

You can safely mark this multi-faceted set out as ‘one for the future’. Combining bits from the that’s-no-moon space stations from both Episode I and Episode III, this incredibly popular Death Star includes a massive 24 ‘minifigs’, a multitude of moving parts and classic set-piece areas like the trash compactor and the Emperor’s Throne Room. A fan favourite which, if you do a bit of internet detective work, you can still buy for a reasonable sum – in Lego terms at least.
Well, it’s finally happened. I’m afraid that in the end, I just can’t justify the cost of the Sandcrawler or Ewok Village, but being prepared to see desirable sets retire and not go on the hunt for expensive secondary market stuff is the price I pay for keeping my collecting manageable financially. I’ll look forward to what 2017’s sets bring…
In 2000 we got our first two UCS sets, the X-wing Fighter (#7191) and the TIE Interceptor (#7181). This X-wing fighter was the largest LEGO Star Wars set to date with 1,300 pieces. That year also saw the first Technic Star Wars sets in the form of a Pit Droid (#8000), Battle Droid (#8001), and Destroyer Droid (#8002). In total 19 sets were released in 2000, including the first LEGO System version of the Slave I (#7144) and Millennium Falcon (#7190). This year also saw the first LEGO Star Wars key rings to be released which included Darth Vader (not included in set counts).
Also on the way out is 75142 Homing Spider Droid, and while few will have rushed to pick up what was essentially a lazy repackage of 2013’s 75016 Homing Spider Droid, if you were eyeing it up then you may need to act fast.
Remove all the non-LEGO pieces. This is probably the most important thing to do. LEGO buyers are usually only interested in LEGO-brand pieces and are expert at spotting “compatible” bricks. Nearly every LEGO piece that has a stud will have the LEGO logo on it. Pieces without studs will usually have the company name molded into the underside of the piece somewhere. Some small pieces have no markings all, but the vast majority of authentic pieces will be marked somewhere. Sorting takes time, but it is time that will be rewarded with a higher sale price. LEGO buyers understand that some compatible brands are hard to tell apart from LEGO pieces and will accept that a few may slip through. You should also remove other toys that often find their way into the LEGO box, like action figures, toy cars, marbles, crayons, etc. Broken pieces and pieces with dents and tooth-marks should be removed.
Design: This set uses a modular design. If you follow the instructions, you get eight distinct modules, four above ground and four below ground. You can arrange these in dozens of different ways to create tiny cave networks and a multi-layered effect. The caves have several different kinds of hidden resources that you can only see when you take the top layer off. The overall effect of the design is a pretty good representation of the Minecraft world.

The Holiday 2017 LEGO catalog has started to reach home mailboxes and there are many set that are listed as “Last Chance!” meaning that they will be probably retiring at the end of the year or shortly after. These are in addition to the LEGO Creator Palace Cinema (10232) which LEGO posted about before on social media a few weeks ago.

Sometimes small and simple can be good things.  This set is very basic, consisting of 282 pieces, many of which are minifigurines and Droids.  The set replicates the scene in Revenge of the Sith where Anakin is transformed into Vader.  The Emperor is included as a minifigurine along with Anakin, Vader, and two Droids.  This is a quick build, but the payoff is fantastic.  Getting to lower Anakin and flip the table over to reveal Vader is an incredibly simple, but fun moment to experience in the Lego world (manually adding his helmet in extreme slow motion is totally optional, but highly recommended).  What this set lacks in size and depth it more than makes up for in fun and cool accessories.

We all know one proven way to invest in LEGO bricks is to look for big sales and great deals on LEGO sets that are still currently available at retail, then flip them several year later for a profit. Another great way to invest in LEGO bricks is to scour eBay and look for older and retired sets that are still having positive gains month after month and do the same thing. The trick is finding those older and retired sets without too much trouble. Here is our solution. Below is a list of the Top Performing “Old and Retired” LEGO sets over the past six months. All 50 LEGO sets on the list have been produced in 2008 or earlier. When displaying the sets from the USA eBay listings, there is a 20% range added to the current market value. For all other country feeds, the high price range is twice the current value and the low price range is half of the current value. When testing, this was returning some decent results. Our goal here is to help find these top performing sets that are still consistently increasing in value and showing you current eBay listings within a close price range of it’s current market value. It is our wish that you utilize this data to diversify your Brickfoilio and to help you find some hidden gems that will make you some money in the secondary LEGO market.
Every person works best with their own system, so these final tips are offered as suggestions to try in an effort to help. They are not meant to be definitive in any sense of the word. You may implement the ones you like and disregard the ones that don’t work for you.
It’s simple but Number 1 made color directions for this creation (on one sheet only! hooray for executive function skills!) and sold it at his school flea market fundraiser.  He was beaming with pride!

I think the MechDragon went on sale after I wrote this article. As I mentioned; this time of the year it is a good idea to check both lists frequently as new items get added regularly. As far as the Detective Agency, yeah, it is too awesome! And I love the story about the cookies! 😛

The hardest part about the collection is obtaining the buildings that are discontinued. Most sets are discontinued 2-3 years after they are released. I was in a similar situation trying to obtain the Green Grocer and Market Street (already owned Cafe Corner). For both of these sets I used Brick Link to purchase each individual part and assemble the buildings. It’s a lot of work, but the Green Grocer set is now my favorite mainly due to the amount of effort I put into creating it.

Brilliant to use the shield as a trowel for the BRICKLAYER. I’ve lifted the idea for a carpenter’s workstation and changed it a bit.  I’ve created a workbench on the mezzanine floor inspired by this idea.  Also the ‘plate compactor’ being used on the pavement is from 7746-1 from 2009.
Over the years, several new pieces were introduced in this line as well. The new pump was spring based, and could only be operated by hand, which limited pneumatic power to how fast it could be manually pumped. This obviously limited the power of pneumatic circuits. So in 1992, LEGO introduced two new pieces; a small pump and a small cylinder. The small pump did not have a spring on it, and it was designed to be operated by a motor, which would allow for continuously-running pneumatic creations. As of 2011, the small pump has only appeared in one set — 8868 Air Tech Claw Rig (1992) (found on Peeron) — and a few parts sets (no longer available). A new version of the small pump was released in Lego set 8110 Unimog U400 (2011). At 2L, this pump’s stroke is 1/3 longer than the old one’s 1.5L, ‘L’ being the LEGO unit of a stud. This made it much easier to use in studless construction.

One more themed set before we finish up our list, and what would we be without mentioning one of the newest Lego sets out, celebrating the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, Dead Men No Tales.
This set has incredible detail, and is fun to build. I built this set (Dad), and each of my boys built the other two (Fire Brigade and Pet Shop) . The build was enjoyable, and it was fun to watch them come together. in fact, we enjoyed it so much, that we started building the sets on a Sunday morning together, and we all stayed with it until the sets were done a few hours later. It was a fun family project.

YES!!! they are amazing to build, the detail is great, and the ones that are out now are pretty cool. I have the cinema, pet shop, and emporium, but I would say the pet shop was the most fun. I am planning on getting the restaurant and the detective agency next spring, but I also know a couple shops that sell old sets, so if they are not outrageous, I will pick up the town hall and fire brigade (really bummed that I missed out on this one. 2 weeks after I bought the 3 I have, they retired it).

This was a Christmas gift for my husband. It took him a couple weeks working only a couple hours an evening to get it done. You have to be careful to choose the correct part and position it exactly right. It works great.

Walmart.com just had their 10193 stock replenished in the last week or so, after a long absence. I’ve had an email alert for months with the hope of buying it for $89 (the previous sale price), but when it came back in stock, it also came in at $99.
Very interesting to assemble, atleast one week of building this krane after work in the evening. Works really great. If you want lot of fun and good spend of time, I highly recommend this Lego Krane for you
Personally I don’t care for the Emporium. It is big, and looks fine on the outside, but it is too empty inside. The more recent modulars are a lot more interesting. Plus, the Emporium is a corner building, so unless you get at least one other one with it, it wouldn’t look right. If you can only get one modular, get the Parisian. It is a very sweet set both inside and out, looks good from three sides, and is perfectly fine as a display piece all by itself. And you will have several more years to buy it. 😉
I think you would have to look at it in an entrepreneur/business man’s point of view to understand it. If people aren’t buying enough of the sets to keep a good profit after a few years, Lego might find that they would make more money using the same pieces if they were to discontinue the set and release a new one people would buy more of. If you already have an old set that is still on the market, there wouldn’t be much point in buying a second or third. (assuming its for personal use.)
IMO… the entire line is overpriced… and not because of the price-to-parts ratio… but because when TLG switched to the minifig scale back in the late 1970s, they didn’t have this type of set in mind. I grew up with the Town Plan scale (1 door = 3 bricks tall), and the minifig scale (1 door= 5 or 6 bricks tall) caused a fourfold price increase in LEGO sets with 4 walls.
content += ““;
I agree that there is a pleasantry with simpler models, and affordability is just one factor contributing to it, but I also assert that the greater detail afforded by the larger scale has allowed much more variety, and with it the longevity and continued success of LEGO models.
Even if these ideas here don’t inspire you to begin your own Lego modular creation, they are cool to look at, aren’t they! And hopefully, Lego will continue introducing a new modular building every year so we can all keep building the kits and adding to our fun and realistic looking Lego towns. Enjoy!

The first generation of LEGO Pneumatics ran from 1984 through 1988. This generation is characterised by single port pneumatic cylinders and the more complex plumbing including a three port distribution block with a pressure and vacuum outlet port. These pressure and vacuum lines ran to a switch to provide pressure for extension or vacuum for retraction of the pneumatic cylinders. These are often falsely compared to single acting hydraulic cylinders that require gravity to retract. The difference is that these units retract on the application of vacuum.[citation needed]
2. We called Lego tech support and they knew almost immediately what was missing. They were also very good about it. It’s a bag of pieces that they have to send from Denmark and it takes two weeks to deliver. We are still waiting.
The Fire Brigade just moved to discontinued status, so if you can find one on the shelves I’d recommend purchasing it now. On my last visit to the Lego store the employees said they won’t be getting anymore in stock.
The design appeared twice in the movie and the film’s production designer described it as a car boasting “Lamborghini lines combined with tank functions: an armored riot control vehicle, complete with machine guns shooting rubber bullets and a large cannon mounted on the front.” Featuring authentic details and decoration, this is a must-have for both Batman and Hot Wheels collectors.
Discover awesome detail and design with this amazing 2-in-1 LEGO® Technic Rally Car model, featuring sporty blue, white, red and black bodywork with racing stickers, large rear spoiler, 4 spot lamps and 6-spoke red rims with low-profile tires. This advanced building set also features a detailed cockpit with racing seats and roll cage, 2-fan engine cooling system, opening hood and rear hatch, and a V6 engine with moving pistons. Rebuild the Rally Car to create a Buggy for a double build and play experience.
Oh good to know. Emptiness doesn’t bother me that much because that gives me a chance to practice furniture MOCs, however, I don’t know if I can get the others so I’ll definitely gun for the Parisian first and then see I ever really need a corner building.

I’ve always been in 2 minds about the Sydney opera house, it just seems so expensive compared to Tower bridge and especially Big Ben both of which I have, they both have many more pieces for less money. I managed to get Doctor Who for £35 on amazon, I got Big Bang theory with VIP points, own ewok village and Wall-E. That leaves the sandcrawler which has never been a must buy like ewok village was.
Built by LEGO Master Builder Erik Varszegi back in 2005 for the Star Wars Celebration III, the Venator Star Destroyer is a little over 8-feet long and 44-inches wide, weighing in close to 150 pounds. It was the largest LEGO model most had seen at the time, which means Varszegi had to use glue and incorporate a steel frame into the LEGO creation. But now six years later, another LEGO fan has built his own version of the Venatir, but with 100% LEGO elements and no glue. Talk about devotion!
Yeah, it is a good idea to keep a balance. Some sets/themes are worth letting go, other’s are worth to keep. I know many people who greatly regret selling their collection, others are afraid to sell them and are burried under boxes they never even opened. For me the judgement to sell anything (LEGO or otherwise) is that if I haven’t touched it/used it for 6 months, it is time to let it go and have someone else enjoy it. This also opens up space (and money) for new things in my life. So it’s a win-win. 😉

Why would LEGO discontinue sets that are still insanely popular? Example being the UCS Millenium Falcon. It would obviously still sell, look at the prices it is commanding online now. Seems to me LEGO is giving up profits. I know some people buy sets hoping the price will rise, and that is all well and good, but some of us just really enjoy assembling, displaying and looking at our collections. I am like a few others in here that have an entire room devoted to LEGO. I have sets I could sell but honestly I probably never will. I find myself alot just sitting there looking around at my sets and honestly it really relaxes me. Same with building. I am married and have 5 daughters…..yes….DAUGHTERS and when I am building I can just focus on that and ignore the chaos around me. It is very theraputic. Anyways, I got a little side tracked, as far as my original question does anyone know why LEGO would intentionally stop the most popular sets, and what are your opinions about this? Also, and I know no one can know for sure, but what do you think the chances are that they would ever re-release the UCS sets?
Mmmmm it just seems ludicrous to me that in order to save money, I have to purchase the earlier wave Lego Dimension sets from a seller in North America. Even with international postage costs, these sets (boxed) work out at an approx saving of 50% compared to the UK price. This seller must have purchased the sets when they were drastically reduced in price, and is obviously making a profit.

The Sales and Deals section of the Online LEGO Shop was recently updated with some interesting surprises. In addition, the Online LEGO Shop in the UK listed all the large sets that will be retiring soon, which is also interesting to see. Below we will take a look at both lists and see what is worth to buy before getting retired, and before the Double VIP Points period expires in a few days. So let’s begin. 🙂
➡ LEGO ULTRA AGENTS SETS ON SALE: Yet another theme that is getting close to retirement is LEGO Ultra Agents. So far only a couple of sets are on sale; #70163 LEGO Ultra Agent’s Toxikita’s Toxic Meltdown, and #70161 LEGO Ultra Agents Tremor Track Infiltration. Both are great sets from the first wave of LEGO Ultra Agents, and it might be a good idea to keep checking if others go on sale as well. You can find them under the Sales & Deals section. BUY HERE
We’ve recently added a selection of high quality retro gifts that we feel will appeal to both children and adults alike. If the sets have been used (pre-built) I would try Craigslist first to see if there is a local buyer. If you luck out you will have an end-buyer who just genuinely wants the sets you have for themselves and they are willing to pay a bit more for used sets, or you can sell them to a reseller for a bulk price. If you want top dollar you can list on eBay, but it will take up a lot of your time.
There are tricks to filling the cup so that you maximize your purchase. For instance, fill the little rim at the bottom with tiny pieces, then add your large, expensive pieces, then add smaller and smaller pieces. Top off the cup with the itty-bitty pieces that shake down into the crevices.
A special should be noted about substituting inner foundational pieces. Rare pieces go right out the window when it comes to these. Many times the designers add these to give fans unique pieces to play with, but if they are never seen then you’ll spend a lot for very little return.

This is another way of saying (and this is true for shoes or whisky): Buy retail. The secondary market is where you make your money. “The goal is to buy retail and on discount,” Maciorowski says. So that means hitting up local big-box stores and toy emporiums looking for sales, digging deep on the shelves of the Lego aisle for whatever’s being sold now and might be sold for more later. Windfalls happen when you find a gem or rarity at retail price and sit on it.
This step will be the most tedious process of the whole project, However a Wanted List is a crucial step. It allows for fast and easy searches of stores and can enable some quick filtering. Additionally, there are LEGO fans out there who have made free software available that takes care of all the BrickLink searching for you in regards to best of prices and shipping fees. For more information on this check out the BrickLink forums.
Keep an eye on the market. If people go crazy about a new Star Wars release and you bought a few at retail price, you could be sitting on a quick flip. “Once all the people go out there and clear the shelves of every Walmart, Target, Amazon, whatever, then you just watch the value on eBay climb, climb, climb,” Maciorowski says. Say you bought a $99.99 set on sale for $75, and Lego retired the set one year later, and it’s going for $400 on eBay. After your fees, that’s a really solid return on investment—one that any brick investor should be thrilled with. But Maciorowski, who estimates his Lego collection is “six figures easily,” is playing the long game—he hasn’t sold a set yet. “The way we look at it,” he says. “It’s almost a 401(k) plan of a different stature.”
I’ve definitely heard of rebrick but have never used it personally. I’m not sure how it would work for me since I’m both a builder and collector and therefore have two catagories of LEGO pieces. One is strictly to stay with the sets and everything else is building material. However, it is the perfect solution for those who may not have a seperation and can get more milage out of their collection.

Now that he has it open, it is a VERY impressive Lego set with 24 “little men” as they’re called in our house. There are not just bags of Legos but boxes of Legos at it is such a large set with over 3,800 pieces. The directions are in a spiral bound book, which could make the task of putting the set together look daunting, but he’s loving it. I’m loving that here it is mid-January and he’s still putting it together.
Thanks so much for posting this. We have many Lego fans here at our house. I was so stuck on what sets to get for my girls and many stores are sold out on the sets my girls want and Amazon is charging way too much. Sad. So, I was glad to read your tips so off we went to the Lego store to pick up bricks as well as ordering a book through your link. Thanks for the help.

➡ ONLINE LEGO SHOP SALES & DEALS: A number of the older LEGO Dimensions packs are on sale, but this is not particularly a new development. You can buy most LEGO Dimensions packs at about half price both directly from and at other retailers. What is more interesting is that several newly released larger sets are on sale as well, with 20% off the regular price. This includes the #21127 LEGO Minecraft The Fortress, the #70322 LEGO Nexo Knights Axl’s Tower Carrier, and the #41067 LEGO Disney Princess Belle’s Enchanted Castle. Other notable sets on sale are some of the LEGO Nexo Knights Ultimate Knight packs, and the #40203 LEGO Vampire and Bat Halloween set. Also, the #41068 LEGO Disney Princess Arendelle Castle Celebration, and the #41066 LEGO Disney Princess Anne & Kristoff’s Sleigh Adventure have been on sale for many months now. They are great sets, but it is possible that LEGO made too many of them and they are not selling fast enough. Yes, that’s a good resource as well. I also found their pricing much higher than BL and their selection is limited, but as you mentioned for rare pieces and expensive pieces it is worth to check. An issue with Bricks and Pieces though that is good to keep in mind is that their shipping time can take weeks as they ship directly from Denmark. So if you are in the USA, Canada, Australia, etc. it can take weeks. But yes, they should definitely be a resource to at least check out for comparison shopping.

This set comes with instructions for all three models. The pieces are bagged into several groups to make sorting easier. I find the models all to be great to play with, though I’ve left mine in the treehouse configuration. There are a nice variety of parts and building techniques to keep the builder interested throughout.
To be honest, I don’t really pay attention to the “Retiring Soon” label. With the Chima example, LEGO LEGO Shop at Home hasn’t made be trust the tag. Sure, it could be a sign of retirement, but if LEGO Shop at Home goes around and changes it on us, it makes me think that it isn’t reliable.
This is a pretty crazy looking set.  Taken from Attack of the Clones, this set pieces together Obi-Wan’s Starfighter with an impressive hyperdrive module.  The hyperdrive is a blast to play with.  It has a dock for the Starfighter, two spring-loaded shooters and a quick release for the Starfighter.  The Startfighter itself isn’t going to blow you away, but it is a sleek little ship that is very well designed and a fun build.  Not as fun as the hyperdrive, but fun nonetheless.  One of our favorite features of this set are the minifigurines.  Of course Obi-Wan is included, but you also get Jango Fett and a young Boba, which is fantastic.  Rounding out the characters is a R4-P17 droid which docks on the Starfighter.  The build isn’t as lengthy as some others here, but it isn’t exactly a quick task either.  The overall fantastic visual appeal makes this set shine, but the smaller details really set it apart.

Even on eBay you will have several options, depending on how much money you hope to make and how much work you are willing to do. If you take apart the sets, clean them, verify all the original pieces are present, re-pack them into bags and the original boxes with original instructions, you can make significantly more than if you just take a picture of the bulk lot and say “what you see is what you get”.
You can also order individual bricks from Lego.com, but the wall in the store gets you a better price. Another option for bulk buying is to order on ebay or from sites like BrickLink. (I’ve not done the latter, so I can’t verify the success of that approach; please use caution in your purchases.)
We don’t often see a LEGO® set like the new 42055, the Bucket Wheel Excavator. LEGO® boasts this as the largest Technic set ever made. It is a new 2016 set and it is made up of 3929 pieces. So, Read more »
Thankfully, I anticipated the Pet Shop’s retirement and bought it this month for my little sister’s Christmas present – after almost six years on her wish-list. I’m surprised by the Ideas sets and the Sandcrawler though.
Baseplates – Baseplates are large, flat pieces that are thinner than regular building plates. They are popular items. Baseplates are usually referred to by their dimensions in LEGO studs, e.g. “16×16”, “32×32”

There are several venues to sell LEGO – Craigslist, eBay, BrickLink or even running a garage-sale are some of them. However if you don’t have the time to do the selling yourself, you can take advantage of the services of Brian Semling, owner of Brian’s Toys. Here is what Brian wanted to let our readers know about what he can offer to LEGO fans who desire to sell:
Yeah, I really didn’t have a good head for Katniss. (Deep breath.) I had to use Wyldstyle’s, (facepalm), the MMV female head didn’t look quite right. Maybe that would have been better. For Peeta, I’m not sure if I should choose Luke Skywalker’s, (the original Luke Skywalker head,) or that Determined face from the Hoth Rebel Trooper Battle Pack that came out whatever many years ago. (The one on one of the troopers.) Haymith was Indiana Jones face and Thors hair, but in the darker tan. Effie was Elsa Schneider, with the Lone Ranger fancy gal red hair piece. And Snow was the original trilogy Obi-wan head, with Balin’s hair. And I went into too much detail…

I was sorting through our stash this month and I was greatly disappointed in seeing how only a small minority of them are actual bricks. (Our stash weighs approximately 20 lbs!)  Really, it’s embarrassing and moreover, it’s frustrating because I have two kids at home, one who is quite LEGO proficient and the other is not so proficient.
Finally, at the risk of sounding like a shill for Lego, the Creator section of the Lego website has a nice collection of short videos that feature their own designers explaining advanced building techniques. These videos mesh nicely with this set.
I can see now that the most pricey element is the Certificate of Authenticity, for a whooping US$ 800. Let’s remove that, I’m not creating an authentic piece. Next it’s a Sticker Set for the Falcon holder, at US$ 170. Let’s get rid of that.
These two websites are going to make your life a lot easier while buying pieces, just matching the stores that sell the pieces you still need, and will automatically remove them from your wishlist as you buy them.
As for how we judge sets ourselves, we tend to break it down into two categories:  the build and the components.  We’re like any other Lego enthusiast, we love the build.  It needs to be challenging and engaging, not something that can be pieced together without instructions.  It doesn’t necessarily have to be a huge set, there is often a lot of fun to be had in smaller sets, but the build needs to grab our attention.  Most of those on our list end up being on the longer side for builds, as it’s the nature of the build that sets with more detailed builds will end up more engaging for us.
The Millennium Falcon set comes in at the top of our list simply because it’s freaking awesome.  It is among the two or three most recognizable images from the entire Star Wars franchise, so it easily checks the nostalgia box.  The set is huge at 1329 pieces and takes a few hours to complete.  Inside the box you get the awesome Falcon itself, complete with the iconic holochess board, cockpit, and even spring loaded blasters.  Additionally, you get a wealth of minifigurines including Han Solo, Chewbacca, Rey, Finn, and BB-8 (you get two more, but who cares about those guys?).  The minor complaint here is that this is The Force Awakens version, so you get old Han, rather than A New Hope Han.  That’s easy enough to ignore, however, with the all-around spectacular set included here.
Movie-authentic Death Star environments include the Superlaser control room and target monitor, Imperial conference chamber, TIE Advanced hangar bay with moving launch rack, Emperor’s throne room, droid maintenance room, detention block, trash compactor, and much more!
“Retiring Soon” means nothing, some sets get the label and are sold out a week later, a set like Medieval Market gets the label it was still available for like 6+ months. “Retired” is really the tag to look for but that doesnt show up until a set is almost completely sold everywhere so by time you see the label its worthless. Im sure LEGO does mess with buyers/investors to encourage them to buy a set they were on the fence about or were waiting for a sweet sale but instead rush out and buy it at full MSRP. Its all a big game with constantly changing rules, Investors either give up and get out, get burnt and loose money or you keep up with the changing market and actually make a profit.
If you ever want to feel like you bought a whole bunch of new LEGOs but you have no money, then just start sorting your current stash.  Do it when your kid is NOT HOME.  Why?  Like a puppy, he will hang around you trying to grab and start building and this will mess you up and you’ll snap at him.  Counterproductive.  Make it a surprise – I thought of you today- gift! I use Ikea GLIS containers but there are others such as: (Make sure they stack! Shallow is better for smaller pieces)

What do you think? Have you considered piecing together retired LEGO sets? Or have you done it already? What was your experience? Are there any other tips I haven’t mentioned here that you would like to share? What retired LEGO set would you really like to get? Feel free to share in the comment section below! 😉
This set also has a white horse, with decorative blanket / saddle and helmet. The horse is a newew styled horse, one that can rear up on its hind legs as well as move its head into a grazing position.
Your child will have a renewed interest in the things he already owns and you won’t be adding more stuff to your household. Well, besides the book. But, they are available on Kindle, so you can save space that way, too.
Welp, time to bite the bullet on the Ewok Village. Both it and the Sandcrawler are 12% off on Amazon. The Sandcrawler is still a better buy (over 3000 pieces vs. the Ewok Village’s not-even-2000), but the Village seems to be more playable. Honestly, I’m a little surprised the Ewok Village was still around–didn’t it come out in 2013?

Let’s face it, LEGO makes a lot of sets, and LEGO is expensive. LEGO also retires sets after a period of time. All of this means that we may not be able to afford everything we want when available, and by the time we are ready to buy, the set of our dreams could be out of production. Or you may learn about an old set just now, but it has been retired years ago. So what to do? This is what we will explore today. 🙂
The Sandcrawler™ set 75059 is from Star Wars™ Episode IV A New Hope. It is a nice large set with 3286 pieces and 7 minifigures.   Set set has been on the brixinvest future prospects page for some time. We Read more »
Any Lego Star Wars set that is still readily available, i.e. not retired, in 2017 could qualify for our list.
As I mentioned earlier today, the LEGO Double VIP Points promotion is now going on at LEGO Stores and on [email protected]. I’ve been told by a pretty reliable source that a variety of direct-to-consumer LEGO sets are now retiring soon even though they’re not listed online. If you’ve been holding off on some of these sets, now would be a perfect time to jump on them since we exactly know when they will be going away. This is only a partial list as there could be more D2C sets that perhaps are listed as retiring soon as well.
Hopefully this overview will get you organized enough to start on that dream LEGO set you never thought would be possible to get. It can be a long road to see the fruits of your work, but when all is done you have the added accomplishment of knowing how much work went into the project. To date I’ve assembled two LEGO Modular Buildings I missed out on when they were originally released, and I’m currently working on a third. I’ve also completed a handful of old LEGO Castle sets.

According to the LEGO Star Wars designer Hans Burkhard Schlömer (aka BrickCommander), the first wave of LEGO Rogue One: A Star Wars Story sets will be retiring before the end of 2017.  The designer has revealed the news in the comment… Continue Reading →
If you are like me, and have a lot of loose parts in your own collection that you want to use it putting together a set, the process can be daunting. So it is a good idea to first have your own LEGO collection sorted and stored property. Thanks to my wife’s help, our LEGO elements are sorted first by color then by part type. So a great way for me to start pulling parts for the project is to change the filter options on the BrickLink Wanted List to show by color rather than piece type. This allows me to work through several colors, then have the option of stopping at any time.

If you haven’t collected all of the Rogue One sets you want, now is a good time to start. LEGO designer Hans Burkhard Schlömer noted the sets for the first Star Wars standalone film are getting discontinued.
For example I read that LEGO City set are number one in Europe, while in the US the top sellers are Star Wars and Ninjago. LEGO does have to take these things into consideration, otherwise they could end up with huge stocks of sets just sitting in one region, when they could easily sell them somewhere else. And when they do end up with extras in an area, it makes sense to just sell that stock locally at a discounted price, rather than shipping it half way around the word. So there is a lot of logistics involved. It is not about not treating customers equally, even if sometimes it feels that way. 🙂
Then there are the seller fees on eBay . And the shipping costs – remember, Lego is bulky and could cost quite a bit to ship. And if you’re selling to a collector, they’ll expect it to arrive in good condition, so packing costs go up again.

I can’t believe I bought this thing. The buyer’s remorse was instant. I’m 34 years old and bought a Lego Death Star. Is this what my life has come to? Spending hard earned paycheck dollars on plastic bricks? Whatever, dude! This is the BEST. TOY. EVERRRRR!!! I put it in my kitchen as a decoration. I like to crush the **** out of Lego Luke in the Lego trash compactor. Take that, maturity!
I bought this for my 4 year old son for Yule. Since he’s not quite ready to assemble these sets yet, I was pleased to see that the pieces were conveniently bagged in a way that would facilitate assembly. Bag number 1 contains the figures, which gave my son something to play with while the rest of the set was being assembled. Bags numbers 2 through 10 could then be opened in order, assembling the structure from each bag before opening the next. The base plates are in a separate bag but they are large enough that they are unlikely to be lost. Having only one bag open at a time – with the smaller pieces in a smaller baglet within that bag – greatly reduced the chances of losing a piece, and in fact only one piece was lost during assembly by mommy, daddy, and 6 year old big sister, despite the attempts of 2 year old brozilla.

The pièce de résistance of the Lego Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series with a price-tag that beggars belief. Consisting of a whopping 5,195 bricks and weighing in at just over 10kg, the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy is the second-largest Lego set ever and is the jewel in the Lego Star Wars crown.
I know this because I got hit with flooding twice in the last year. On top of loosing stuff I also want stuff. Especially the Slave I. I called Lego and told them everything that was going on and how much I wanted the set. They researched what they could but in the end they just don’t have that information very far in advance. They did send me an email letting me know that based on how long it has been out I probably have time.
Force Friday II is right around the corner, and with it will come a barrage of new Star Wars merch to hype us up for The Last Jedi. We don’t really need to be hyped up for the next film in the Star Wars saga, but if there has been one thing synonymous with the franchise it’s merchandising.
Lego helpfully make all of their instruction sheets downloadable for free from Lego.com. (This doesn’t stop people on eBay trying to sell the instruction booklets for a  good price, however. Buyer beware!)  If you have a good supply of Lego bricks already, you could start by downloading the plans of a coveted Harry Potter set, and see how many of the pieces you already have. Probably most of them, but the colors might not be exact. But here’s the thing: don’t get caught up with being exact. Kids don’t let a desire for 100% accuracy get in the way of play. One of my daughter’s friends saw the multi-colored Hogwarts we built and exclaimed “A rainbow castle! How cool!” That reminded me kids aren’t as uptight as adults about collecting or having things perfect.

Lego Duplo Creative Ice Cream set #10574 comes with all 24 pieces to create different ice creams. This popular set has been discontinued and is hard to find, sells at on line auction for approx $50. There is no box or instruction manual, but easy to use your imagination with these. Overall in very good played with condition with mild play wear and a few small minor marks. Please see photos. We are clearing a lot of stuff including other Lego. Contact through Gumtree messaging please. No

Four years later, Lego is still high on her Christmas list. I’m happy to contribute, albeit without spending inordinate amounts of cash. While specific sets are great, there are other ways to please your Lego-maniacs. Here’s how, you, too, can save some pennies on Lego.
Scrub water-sensitive parts with a dry towel or toothbrush. Set aside any pieces with stickers or printed patterns, as well as any multi-part units that are not meant to be separated, such as turntables. Scrub these with a dry towel, or remove serious grime using a new toothbrush.
@ Genadi, as a Lego fan my entire life and now an AFOL (adult fan of Lego) I personally ask that you don’t support organizations from foreign countries that sell cheaper replicas of Lego sets like the ones in your aliexpress link. Lego is suing these companies like Lepin, which in my opinion is a horrible unethical company, for IP infringement. Since Chinese laws are different Lego will have a hard and expensive legal battle ahead of them. Yes they are cheaper and similar, but they are not Lego so the quality is not there and they are part of the reason for Lego’s higher price. Lego files many patents to protect itself and still you get organizations like these. Sorry to be a bummer on the good deal, but to me the big picture doesn’t justify the discount. Buy used Lego’s and recondition them. They will be like new. There are a few ways to do this on the Internet. Otherwise get them on clearance or at discount stores as noted. I hope this helps.

It’s really lucky the Empire had a spare Death Star hanging around. Who would have thought a tiny exhaust port could be so much trouble! Save yourself the heartache of watching the first one blow up by building the Death Star II. If you hurry you could even build the 3,417 piece set before it’s destroyed in the Battle of Endor. This rare set was only around for two years, and the price tag reflects the short run. If you want it in your collection, you’ll spend over $2,000.
With no new film in 2003, the number of sets released was reduced to 20 of which 8 were MINI sets (in plastic boxes) featuring iconic Star Wars vehicles from the five films released to date.  Four of these sets came as two packs featuring matched pairs of vehicles such as X-wing Fighter & Tie Advanced (#4484), Sebulba’s Podracer & Anakin’s Podracer (#4485), AT-ST & Snowspeeder (#4486) and Jedi Starfighter & Slave I (#4487) — each one of these sets included extra pieces to create a TIE Bomber. The other four Mini sets featured larger vehicles such as the Millennium Falcon (#4488) and AT-AT (#4489). 2003 also saw the release of the largest minifigure to date — Jabba the Hutt — as part of the Jabba’s Palace set (#4480) and also the first large scale AT-AT (#4483). Two USC were also released during the year, the Rebel Snowspeeder (#10129) and the elusive Cloud City set (#10123), the latter of which includes a uniquely printed Boba Fett minifigure which is very hard to find (and one of the few sets I still don’t own).
Sorry, you’re gonna have to shell out more cash to really make the most of your model. Get these: 4-6 more Stormtroopers, more imperial officers, an extra Luke and Han in ST disguise, an extra Leia and Darth Vader, and a few others that you like. I added about a dozen more. Be careful that you get minis that match the style of 10188.
Finding the right original pieces for this set is so darn difficult (many of them were made only for this set and never reintroduced by another one) so several fans just adapt to modern times and recreate this set in a different color set.
Now I know I said the project can move forward, however I like to do one more step just so there are no unpleasant surprises. This step involves taking a look at the parts in a set. For this I use the BrickLink. I click Catalog at the BrickLink website and then find the set by either browsing the categories or entering the set number in the search box. Once I find its page, I click on the View Inventory link. Seeing all the parts in the set laid out on one page lets me look for expensive and/or unusual elements. There are no prices immediately listed on this page and I doubt anyone wants to click through and see prices for each part, but I look for three main criteria: rare part design, rare part color, and large quantity.
A brief note on some of the program names you guys might want to look for. Brickstore or brickstock are programs that fans can use to make custom wanted lists. The program will even let you spit out an .xml file for mass upload and allow you to share your work with friends.
I guess if I was a buyer I would focus and getting at least 1 of the bigger sets you want, regardless of the Price (although sites like Brickset help out TREMENDOUSLY in finding sales on sets at different places) and worry about the smaller ones later, that way if the smaller one sells out you have a good chance of picking one up for a decent price later (if if discontinued)
You can also buy Lego Harry Potter mini-figures individually on eBay or BrickLink if those are what the kids are really in love with. While one Harry Potter figure might still set you back $15 plus shipping (at the cheap end), that’s a lot cheaper than buying a whole set. Again, figures tend to be more expensive on eBay due to the auction effect.
This is Lego’s second Creator structure for 2013. The first was #31009 which is less expensive, but probably not as fun. The third structure is #31012 which I also like very much but it is substantially more expensive at 69.99 MSRP. I also recommend #5766 which came out in 2011, is a favorite with kids, and is still available as I write this.
What about rebrickable.com? This can store your entire collection, tell you what pieces you have missing from any set and create a shopping list at specific brick link or brick owl vendors. Super handy!

They don’t always discontinue them– the best example I can think of is probably the Star Destroyer, which was around longer than LEGO initially expected, thanks to excellent sales. They offered it in catalogs from at least 2002 to 2007 (6 years). If they offered the UCS MF that long, it would be in catalogs until at least 2012!

@mrpole: you definitely have to do your research for each particular set. For example, Market Street is going for $500 on Bricklink the last time I saw. You would think that since the set includes about 1000 pieces, you could get the set for $150 if you can get pieces at an average of $.15. Unfortunately there are several rare elements to this set that drive up the cost. For example the set requires 5 dark blue arches ($10/ea), 79 dark blue 1×4 bricks ($1/ea), 4 white hoses ($5/ea)…. so if you add just those together you’re paying $149 for 88 of the 1000+ pieces. That’s not including shipping. I’m not discouraging you doing it, but make sure it’s feasible before you start…. get the rare elements first, otherwise you’ll be left with a big hole in your project. Another thing to consider is to wait and hope that some of these rare parts are included in future sets for possible cannibalization.
Mindstorms, a Lego line of robotic products, also uses a large number of Technic pieces, although it is sold as a separate line of products. The latest generation of the Mindstorms range, the Mindstorms EV3 range (released September 2013), as well as the Mindstorms NXT sets (released August 2006), are based on the studless construction method.
But there’s much more than just Star Wars selling. A look at the best-selling kits on BrickPicker shows trains, play houses, dinosaurs, Harry Potter sets, Back to the Future Deloreans and Pirate sets all featuring.
Similarly a sports store would be cool. Again, it could make use of various accessories. Soccer balls, basketballs, skis, ski poles, skates, skate boards, snow boards, surf boards, boxing gloves, boxing headgear, baseball bats, flippers, fishing rods, rackets, etc.
Outside the realm of creative play, Legos offer adults a more practical benefit through a concept known as Lego Serious Play. LSP was developed in part by Kjeld Kirk Kristiensen, the owner of Lego. It involves a set of activities combining metaphorical modeling, building with Lego, and peer group discussions to explore complex issues. It is designed as an innovative process to enhance ingenuity and business performance on the whole. Research shows that this specific form of hands-on, fully engaged learning produces deeper, more meaningful understanding of the world at large, as well as possible solutions to business problems. The results seem to play into the power of the metaphor.
I mainly collect Technic and Star Wars sets, but I’ve always admired the detail in the modular buildings. Is it worth getting into the modular buildings now that I can no longer get the Town Hall, Emporium, etc. without paying ridiculous prices? I’m not that bothered by missing out on the grocer or firehouse or stuff like that, but the look of the town hall kind of ties a downtown area together and the emporium gave a shopping district. Anyone know if LEGO plans on continuing this series for a long time? Missing 3-4 of buildings won’t be a huge deal if we know that there are going to be 5 or 10 more released in the future.

Lego City is a theme under which Lego building sets are released. As the name suggests, Lego City sets are based on city life, with the models depicting city and emergency services (such as police and fire), airport, train, construction, and civilian services.
Lego sets also offer a way for adults to learn through experience. Studies have shown, using Lego sets as an example, that the faculties of the mind learn better through example. As such, having someone showing you how to create an object using Legos can stimulate the creativity in your own brain.
Love this camper set! Really cool for an adult collector. Unique pieces make this a must have. Would give 5 star rating if i felt the price / value ratio was slightly better, but still absolutely love this set. The side window on the camper offers a view of the extreme detail inside the camper. I get many compliments from adults on this set – and that is who i think should buy this set. Children may find the camper underwhelming so for the price might be better to avoid if you are buying for a youngster. Overall, i love this set, it fits in beautifully with an outdoor / camping scene, would prefer more pieces or a slightly lower price, would not recommend for children.
This is a giant set with 2766 pieces. This set also contains the rare color rust brown ish color. I do not know the official name for this color, but it is rare, and you get a lot of the pieces in thi…

10251 Brick Bank is the eleventh entry in the modular buildings series. Released on January 1, 2016, the Brick Bank features a classic bank design and an adjacent laundromat for laundering of both clothes and money.
The Bike Shop & Cafe is a decent build from what I’ve heard. I helped build some of one set, but it isn’t mine personally. The cool aspect about this set is buying a few and making a whole apartment complex, think about the Brownstones in Harlem! Change the bike shop to a computer repair place.

I got this for my son last Christmas, the box was missing two of the pieces, but the Lego customer service took care of it very quickly for me. He absolutely loved this gift! I would recommend this to anyone who has a lego fan in their house. It also comes with a second set of instructions so you can make a mac-truck after you make the 4×4 crawler!
This Lego set is not only one of the top runners as far as expense is concerned, but it is also one of the best and well-sought Lego sets because it’s so symbolic of what everyone wants – freedom. Adult Lego collectors want the freedom to relish in their love of crafting, and building things, they believe, represents their values – the adult-level appreciation of things such as freedom, as well as the childhood wonderment of creating something from nothing that’s so spectacular and momentous.
Please Read: Sold as shown in picture. The batmobile, cat woman, and batman are not included. Straight out of box and assembled. Bought off Lego website. As I was building, I noticed that some of the …
Following the included instructions and using pieces in the starter kit, kids can build a house, helicopter, dog, and car. The only flaw is that the instructions may be challenging for younger children, and require adult assistance.
We’d be lying if we said this was our first pick for our favorite Batman-related set, but unfortunately, a large number of Lego Batman sets were discontinued before the release of this year’s smash animated comedy “The LEGO Batman Movie.” Thankfully, a number of movie-branded sets replaced them, and while most of them were aimed at children, we think the Batcave Break-In set is the perfect kit for parents and kids to build together. With over 1,000 pieces, it’s a bit of a challenge for younger children to tackle on their own, but if they’re big fans of the animated film, they’ll love the task of recreating one of the scenes from the movie—and you’ll love building it with them. With plenty of minifigures, accessories, and play-styles, this is one of our best picks for a set that balances complexity with play, making sure that even after the set is built, your child can still play around and recreate the adventures of Will Arnett’s Batman right in your own house. If you’re a fan of this Batman set, there are a ton of other Lego Batman sets that are guaranteed to create the same amount of fun and enjoyment in your child’s eyes—and you’ll have fun watching them learn how to build it right on their own.
Your toddler will squeal with delight when the Power Wheels Batman Lil’ Quad is sitting outside ready for him/her to take a ride! It’s an ATV for our smallest of adventurers and they’ll feel like their favorite superhero their entire time out on the road.

This was a terrific decision. Since then friends and family have seen the buckets of legos and have opted for the free play lego sets. It really is worth it. The sets are magnificent, but if your child is like mine and won’t dismantle a made lego set this is a great way to put the creative play back in the mix.
The internet delighted when the Lego Creator line debuted the classic Volkswagen T1 Camper van a few years ago, and it’s still one of the most fun and most unique Lego sets we’ve seen on the market. Though the first series has been unfortunately been discontinued by Lego—as is the standard for most unique Creator products—you can still find these classic ’70s busses for the low price of $149 if you look in the right places online, a great price for this 1,300 piece set. The second-series set, meanwhile, is an even cheaper $119, though it comes in a slightly-reworked box design. We’ve linked to the cheaper second-generation model, but the first is also available on Amazon. The interior of this is what makes it so special—with a fully-detailed interior, complete with table, seats, steering wheel, and even a gear shift knob. Both the back and the side doors can open, so you can see the interior in all its glory. Overall, just like with some of the Star Wars sets on this list, this Volkswagen camper van just makes us nostalgic and reminiscent for a bygone period of time. Groovy.
