“second hand star wars lego +lego hobbit discontinued”

Next we look at rare colors. You may not realize this, but when we are in control of everything we buy we tend to gravitate towards colors we like. Therefore, your collection of spare LEGO parts will likely have more or less the same colors. So when you look through the parts-list for a set you are trying to put together, pay attention to colors you know you don’t have much quantity. My project involving the #10185 LEGO Modular Green Grocer has a tremendous amount of sand-green parts that I didn’t have in my collection.
The very reason people are scrambling to collect the sets after they have been retired is because they didn’t do so while they were in production, for any multitude of reasons. As an example, some of the Star Wars UCS sets — 10143 Death Star, for example — were discounted by LEGO for many months before they was discontinued. If the stock was really flying off the shelves, that wouldn’t have been the case.
Making the list as one of the 7 most expensive Lego sets, this stunning model of the Eiffel Town was released in 2007 and is built to 1:100 scale from the original blueprints. This set includes realistic and enchanting features and details such as a flag at the top of the elevators, four lifts toward the bottom of the tower that transport figurines from the base to the center section, and a small, brick-built French flag. It holds the record for the tallest Lego structure produced into a set and contains over three-thousand pieces!

I think this is mainly a problem with series like the Modulars. Relatively few people paid attention to the firs couple of the buildings, but when it became clear that it was going to be a series, people wanted to collect all of them, including the ones that were now retired. There are also new people who are just getting into LEGO due to the popularity of The LEGO Movie who missed out on some great sets. They can do as you mention, and just focus on the newest sets, but if it is a series like the Modulars and they really would like to have a full collection, their only option is to shell out $$$s or to piece together the set themselves.
Poe Dameron is one hell of a pilot. And his Black X-Wing is one hell of a starfighter. Although this LEGO set design quite mimics the one of the X-Wing Starfighter (9493), it features the new “half-engines” of the new generation X-Wings and a different mechanism for the fold of the wings.
As a tradition, LEGO will usually announce retiring sets in October. The LEGO Group have done collectors a big favor by revealing some of their upcoming retirements in their Europe website. The list contains a number of interesting sets, such as… Continue Reading →

This is another way of saying (and this is true for shoes or whisky): Buy retail. The secondary is where you make your money. “The goal is to buy retail and on discount,” Maciorowski says. So that means hitting up local big-box stores and toy emporiums looking for sales, digging deep on the shelves of the Lego aisle for whatever’s being sold now and might be sold for more later. Windfalls happen when you find a gem or rarity at retail price and sit on it.

“regular lego set _lego blue”

I really don’t like what’s happened in recent years, Lego has gone from a plastic building blocks toy to a highly sought after collectors item and designer brand and hobby for the rich, especially when sets retire. I don’t like this investment culture where people who don’t even like Lego buy sets with the sole intention of making huge profits from Lego fans. I’m sure this practice must annoy lego too, maybe that’s why many sets are seeing longer production runs these days to give everybody who wants the set a chance to get one at the proper RRP.
This tower contains four levels. The base of the tower contains a rear door for the King to escape if his castle falls. The 2nd floor contains the King’s throne, a bottle and a chalice. Above that is a treasure room, with a chest filled with gold and rubies. The top of the tower has a torch, and space for the archers to stand.
I don’t know how they could have made this kit any more unappealing. I feel like they reused molds from other micro kits and just tried to get a minecrafty color scheme – they completely phoned this in!
Clone Turbo Tank 7261 Mace Windu (light-up lightsaber), Battle droid (two), Clone Scout Trooper, Clone Trooper Commander (Pauldron), Clone trooper (Ep III), Clone Aerial Trooper 2005 (2006 re-release with non light-up lightsaber) 801

In order to hold the pieces I pull for the project, I typically use a sturdy zip-lock style bag. I actually found the two gallon variety works amazingly well for large sets. As I go through the list, I’m either clicking the delete box when I have all the pieces or I’m moving the quantity I still need into the comment box from the minimum quantity wanted. The reason for this move has to do with how BrickLink functions. If you keep the amount only in the minimum quantity wanted box, it only shows that element if that quantity is reached in a particular store. So even if the store has some of the pieces you need, it will not show up if you have the minimum quantity box filled with a higher number. Unlike the minimum quantity box, the comment box is only a brief note. So no matter how many pieces a store has, their inventory will show up in your search results. And the nice thing is that your note will also show right under where you would indicate how much of each piece you want.
This set also has a white horse, with decorative blanket / saddle and helmet. The horse is a newew styled horse, one that can rear up on its hind legs as well as move its head into a grazing position.
If you want to get rid of them fast, I would really suggest Craiglist first and be willing to take less. Preparing, listing, and selling items on eBay is a lot of work. If you have the time though, you can pace yourself and list 2-5 items per month. It may take you a year to sell everything, but you will get the best return. So it just depends. 🙂
Two Lego Mindstorms sets have been released before 2002. The first set featured R2-D2 which can also be converted into a Battle Droid on a STAP and a Treadwell droid. It is called the Droid Developer Kit and was Released in 1999, numbered 9748, and contains 657 pieces. The second set was an AT-AT which can also be converted into a Destroyer Droid and Droid Starfighter (walking mode). It is called Dark Side Developer Kit and was released later in 2000, numbered 9754, and it contains 578 pieces.
I got told by a member of staff in the Meadowhall Lego store when I bought Ecto 1 that most ideas sets only get a 1 year production run, ecto 1 got extended because of the GB firehouse set that came out this year, I don’t know if that’s true but it’s what I got told.
You won’t probably even recall a Sandcrawler that much from Episode IV, except for the fact that it’s full with Jawas and they sell C3-PO and R2-D2 to Luke Skywalker, but the LEGO version of this vehicle is full-packed with details.
The sets are still going to hang around until they’re out of stock, but once they’re gone that’s it. One thing this might help is the collectability of the sets after their shelf life runs out. There are some really cool Rogue One sets out there, but not everyone is going to get their hands on them.
Even on eBay you will have several options, depending on how much money you hope to make and how much work you are willing to do. If you take apart the sets, clean them, verify all the original pieces are present, re-pack them into bags and the original boxes with original instructions, you can make significantly more than if you just take a picture of the bulk lot and say “what you see is what you get”.
Wash the bricks first. This method will reverse the discoloration that occurs due to sun exposure, but it does not remove grime. Follow one of the methods above first to get your bricks clean before you attempt this.

Yeah, I really didn’t have a good head for Katniss. (Deep breath.) I had to use Wyldstyle’s, (facepalm), the MMV female head didn’t look quite right. Maybe that would have been better. For Peeta, I’m not sure if I should choose Luke Skywalker’s, (the original Luke Skywalker head,) or that Determined face from the Hoth Rebel Trooper Battle Pack that came out whatever many years ago. (The one on one of the troopers.) Haymith was Indiana Jones face and Thors hair, but in the darker tan. Effie was Elsa Schneider, with the Lone Ranger fancy gal red hair piece. And Snow was the original trilogy Obi-wan head, with Balin’s hair. And I went into too much detail…

Great article!  I LOVE all these Star Wars Lego sets.  (Small correction:  #2 on your list is 6211 Imperial Star Destroyer, but the image is of the even more awesome 10030 Imperial Star Destroyer with 3096 pieces).  Also, for me personally, I’d replace #12 AT-AT Walker with the 10178 Motorized AT-AT that walks around my kitchen and bumps into things.  🙂
The highly prized LEGO Ideas NASA  Apollo Saturn V (21309) may probably still sit on the top of our must have LEGO sets of the year, but unfortunately, in spite of the relative early shelf life of this set since its release last June, the availability of the Apollo Saturn V has been notoriously close to none. True, we have the reassuring words from the LEGO Ideas Team that the set will not be retired right away given that it has only been three months in circulation since its release in June 1. There were also moments when the NASA Apollo Saturn V set has been available at LEGO shop@home on very seldom occasions. However, the obvious unavailability of the set for weeks has cast a shadow of a doubt on the truth behind the availability of this highly sought after set. read more
Perhaps the early retirement of the Ideas sets comes from the “Original Ideas” campaign; now that they’ve begun going for the unlicensed sets (Maze, Fishing Store) they want to distance themselves from the licensed products and take Ideas in a new direction altogether.

The rarer a set, the more money it’s worth. But Lego can do another run whenever it feels like it. The new Cinderella Castle, which was released last month, is a good example. It’s a 4,000-piece set, based on the Disney Resort castle. It has all the makings of a great investment: big set, never before released, and inspired by a behemoth brand—Disney. “It’s a $350 set that may hit $1,000 in a few months because every little girl in the world is going to want to build Cinderella’s castle,” he says. “On the flip side, Lego may keep making them for 10 years.” No one ever knows what Lego is thinking, so you need to be comfortable with your investment.

They don’t always discontinue them– the best example I can think of is probably the Star Destroyer, which was around longer than LEGO initially expected, thanks to excellent sales. They offered it in catalogs from at least 2002 to 2007 (6 years). If they offered the UCS MF that long, it would be in catalogs until at least 2012!
nothing really strange about it, IMHO. Market Street was produced under the Factory line, and almost undoubtedly had a much more limited production run than the official LEGO-designed Modulars of the same timeline (CC and then GG)

Pegs – Pegs are small cylindrical pieces that latch into holes in beams. The two most common types of pegs are called connector pegs, which join two beams together. Black or blue connector pegs hold the two beams together stiffly, while grey or tan connector pegs form loose hinges. Pegs have also been seen in System sets.
-the box was a little bit dented, but for an item that’s out of production that can happen. don’t keep my boxes, anyway, so I didn’t feel the need to ding the rating, but for those who do, just know that damage to the box is a very real possibility.
The Town Hall is the largest and most imposing of the Lego Modular buildings. Towering over your brick city. The front is gorgeous with clever pillars and steps. Even the doors are a fantastic build. Yeah, I feel you. I haven’t bought a single modular from LEGO directly. All of my modulars have been Craigslist finds too. The best price I’ve found so far was $110 for a NIB Pet Shop, so awesome find on that $80 deal! As for inside detail, the earlier ones definitely had simpler interiors. The Haunted House was my first set as an adult getting back into LEGO. When I got it, I felt it was definitely lacking on inside decor. As my LEGO collection has expanded, I’ve been able to fill it in with some neat stuff, but as a newbie it kinda sucked to have such a bare interior in such a rad set. This is probably why I prefer a decked out interior to a plain one.
The Fisher-Price Imaginext DC Super Friends Gotham City Jail is exactly what your little guy would want to fulfill his Batman playing dreams with. And with this set, he’ll be locking up the bad guys right alongside his favorite superhero.
The Lego Detective Agency (set # 10246) comes complete with not just a Detective Agency but also an attached Barber Shop and Pool Hall. Like the others before it, this set has a lot of detail (both inside and out) and has several new features such as a hidden safe, pull flush-toilet, pool table and shop access via an open center “atrium”. Personally, we are disappointed Lego went with a theme like a detective agency when there are still so many other town “essentials” missing like a school, hospital, post office, police station and library. What do you think? It’s a great set but has Lego gotten a little too off track with this one? Let us know in the comments below.

Launch Command was released in 1995 as a Lego Town subtheme. It was the first dedicated Lego theme that attempted to depict real-life contemporary efforts of space exploration. Prior to the theme’s official launch in 1995, two sets were released in preceding years that are considered predecessors to the theme. Space Shuttle Launch, released in 1990, featured NASA logo, unlike subsequent releases. Shuttle Launching Crew, released in 1992, featured the characteristic “V” pattern seen on Launch Command sets released in 1995. The two shuttles released in 1995 were in fact labeled “2” and “3”, leading one to believe that shuttle 1 was contained in 6346 Shuttle Launching Crew.
I do like the Modular Buildings and with Pet Shop coming out, I am greatly considering jumping in if the Fire Brigade and Grand Emporium haven’t convinced me. The stalling point of course is budget and price, plus where would I put them for display.
The LEGO Modular Buildings series continues with this spectacularly detailed 3-story department store, designed in a realistic scale with lots of special building techniques and rare pieces. On the street outside, citizens carry shopping bags, send letters at the mailbox, admire the window mannequins, then cool off at the ice cream stand while a busy window washer works above. Enter through the revolving doors to discover a ground-floor clothing department, complete with a cash register, fitting room, hats, jewelry, perfume, and even a selection of spare trousers. A brick-built escalator carries customers to the second floor housewares department with glassware and golden plates for special occasions, and then it’s up to the top floor for the toy department (complete with toy house and push-scooter) with an impressive chandelier above the open atrium. Up on the roof are a billboard and skylight.
This classic three-storey town hall building is the latest addition to the LEGO Modular Buildings series. This highly-detailed model features large entrance-way columns and coat of arms, a tall bell tower with clock and a large skylight giving a view inside the building. On the ground floor, the large hall, tax office and auditorium are perfect for servicing the town’s citizens. Take the working elevator up to the secretary and mayor’s offices on the second floor, furnished eloquently with desks, chairs, paintings and even a frog sculpture. There’s even a balcony for addressing the town’s citizens. On the third floor, a spacious meeting room features a large conference table, chairs, globe and plants. Includes 8 minifigures: mayor, secretary, bride and groom, press woman, janitor and 2 children.
The Technic minifigures last from 1986 to the year 2000. As far as I’m aware LEGO haven’t released a statement on why the figures were removed. Minifigures are expensive and using them limits Technic sets to a certain scale.
In 1989, the LEGO pneumatic line was revamped, and a new cylinder and pump piece were introduced. The old cylinders and pumps were discontinued. The chief difference is that the new cylinder had two input valves now, which allowed both pushing and pulling without needing complex circuits involving the distribution block piece. The Generation 2 cylinders also had metal rods so that they more closely resembled real hydraulic cylinders.

Without gurobi you’ll have to do a greedy approach (more expensive) or brute force (takes forever) method to solve the optimization problem.

There are large exclusive LEGO sets in various categories, and you can find them under the LEGO Exclusives and LEGO Hard to Find categories at the Online LEGO Shop. If the set you are eyeing is close to getting retired (usually indicated by the fact that they have been around for a couple of years), now is probably your last chance to pick them up, as many other LEGO fans are also taking advantage of the Double VIP Points period.
Now, I generally buy LEGO not as an investment but because I like it. That said, I do like getting a good value for my money. With regards to Modular Buildings, these truly are a good value to buy on the primary market (i.e. normal retail of current sets, not Bricklink, Ebay, or the likes), as an enthusiast and as an investor. The models are beautiful and they impress AFOLs and the general public alike. They are filled with interesting building techniques and cute details. They are very satisfying to build. As a set, they merit being valued highly. Now, to add icing on the cake, if you look at the parts that make the whole, you then see the real steal that Modular Building are. With US prices, the building tend to be under 7 cents per piece. Compare that to the price per piece on your favorite sets. We’re on the low end here. I don’t see sets going for less than 6 cents per piece and often times they go for 10 or 11 cents. Your bucket of bricks tends to be at the 7 cent level, but a bucket of bricks doesn’t have as a nice part selection as the modular houses do. So even if you were to buy the sets for new bricks, throwing away all the packaging and instructions and parting the whole thing out for MOCs, I still think it would be a good value.
Lego collectors who are interested in the best Lego sets that resemble such fantastic and historical monuments say that this set is a must have. One customer stated, “I’ve been a Lego fan since I was a child and bought this product the moment I saw it. It took about 10 hours to complete. The final product is very tall (box says 42″ tall, but mine measured about 45″) and absolutely beautiful.”

A video game based on the theme called Lego Batman: The Videogame was announced in 2007, and released on 23 September 2008. Produced by TT Games, the game followed similar titles based upon Lego Star Wars and Lego Indiana Jones.
The first sets were updated versions of the older sets. The new sets are not known as Lego Batman, but Lego DC Universe Super Heroes instead, because the new series features not just Batman characters, but also Superman, Aquaman, Green Lantern and Wonder Woman characters. The Lego Super Heroes theme is due to expand in April 2012 with the Lego Marvel Super Heroes sub-theme.

Lego pneumatic tubing almost always comes with sets in an uncut form, and are required to be cut into smaller pieces using scissors. On the 8049 technic tractor and log loader, the 8110 Unimog U400, the 42053 Volvo EW160E Digger and the 42043 Mercedes Benz Arocs 3245, the tubes are already cut to size.

I suffer from a chronic case of “painless foot.” It’s an odd condition caused by feet that don’t hurt very often. Without regular pain in the bottom of your feet, it’s unnerving because you’re never sure if your foot is actually still there. The anxiety it causes has resulted in thousands of dollars worth of therapy. I thought there would be no end to my misery.
My solution to ensure some creative Harry Potter-themed Lego fun without breaking the bank has used all of the above sources. First, I showed my daughter the downloadable plans for all the Harry Potter Lego sets which gives her great ideas, and helps her build approximations of them with our old Legos (we have tons, including a lot from my own childhood — one of Lego’s many virtues is that it’s practically indestructible!). Then, I ordered some special parts and figures from Bricklink (spiral staircases, Gryffindor banners, the Fat-Lady’s portrait hole, chocolate frogs, etc.), scored one small lot of mixed Harry Potter Lego pieces at a reasonable price on eBay, and found the rest of the pieces we needed on the lego.com site (where we got a free gift). I then left it up to my kids’ imaginations to build their own Hogwarts. The colors might be a mixed bag, but all their friends ooh and aah when they come over, and I haven’t heard one word of complaint.
1 Lego compatible SBRICK Receiver for Power Functions. 4 Outputs to connect Power Functions motors and lights (Lego receiver has only 2). Power Functions cable and Battery Box are needed to connect the S BRICK (available at ile9os).
Lego’s Duplo line is intended for children 1-5 years old and has been around since 1975 (barring a couple brief absences). The Primo offshoot was intended for babies too young to even play with regular Duplo bricks. And unlike Duplo pieces, they were not compatible with regular Lego pieces. Primo was succeeded by Lego Baby, which was phased out in 2005. The niche market was simply not profitable for the company.
OTHER INFLUENCES. I often browse what other people are building and sometimes it informs my process.  I make no secret of this.  Much like the ‘portaloo’ is lifted from a Lego set (Service Truck 60073-1) there are other elements of the build that have roots in other ideas.  The cement mixer used by the BRICKLAYER is from set 5610-1 (a small set from 2008 – now it has a home) I also came across some brilliant vignettes on LEGO IDEAS.

Thanks to its 3,104 pieces, most of which are the exact same shade of grey, the Ultimate Collector’s Series version of the Imperial Star Destroyer is pure evil as a piece of design. The Emperor would be proud. It comes with a 16+ age tag, and isn’t for the feint of heart. And since it’s been discontinued for quite a while, it’s also impossibly expensive. This is one for the only the most die hard Star Wars fans.
Gary (@istokg) you’re spot on about the gimmickry, but that’s part of the point with these sets. If you listen to designer Jamie Berard talking about the Modulars, it’s clear that one of the objectives is to employ novel building techniques and use pieces in unusual ways as much to teach AFOLs new ways of building as it is to “surprise and delight” us (as he himself says in one of his videos). It’s also a way of sneaking unusual colours back onto the palate in greater quantities – remember all that Sand Green in Green Grocer, Medium Blue in Market Street, and then there’s Sand Blue in Pet Shop. This is I believe very much a deliberate move to “delight” AFOLs. Finally, I would also challenge your assertion that they’re overpriced; in so much as ALL LEGO is expensive you’re correct, but compared with many other sets the parts to price ratio is a bit of a steal.
Some of those sets that are getting retired are in the LEGO Creator Modular Buildings series. We have discussed the sets many times (see the LEGO Modular Houses section) as they are very popular with teen and adult LEGO fans. The #10197 LEGO Creator Fire Brigade set was retired last year, and the #10211 LEGO Creator Grand Emporium is also now considered retired. You may still be able to find this set at official LEGO stores, however online it is shown as sold out.
For starters, this set consists of 1,123 pieces in the tricky Technic mold. On top of that, there’s an electronic element and lots of moving parts. Getting this baby to roll, twist, and excavate like it’s supposed to is no easy task. It also takes no less than 12 batteries to get the thing moving.
Then there’s the cost. Look at the current minifig sets and generally it’s 10/c piece plus minifigs, and a lot of the smaller sets really suffer when they have to include too many to make the scene work. But minifigs are simple, a complex one might have 10 pieces. A bare minimum Technic figure has more than that – about 17 by my count. And those pieces have to be assembled, unlike minifigs where half the parts come bare in the bag.

On a separate note, I was checking Bricklink for prices on the retired sets, and noticed the Pet Shop is up now, with two of the sellers being in USA. I guess that means its starting to hit the shelves and times running out!!
Most of the remaining Harry Potter Lego sets were apparently snapped up in stores during the Christmas rush, and now it’s hard to find Harry Potter Lego sets at a reasonable price. (Evidently, it’s not a new thing for investors to buy up collectible toys like this, and resell them online for two or three times the price.) What’s a geeky Dad to do? I want to encourage creative play and nurture her individual interests, but the prices of these hard-to-find Harry Potter Legos sets are eye-popping!
So, if a lot of the elements are still being produced for other sets, that’ll bring down the And similarly, if there aren’t many new products for a given year (new SKUs), it’ll increase the likelihood of an older product sticking around (LEGO has a limited number of SKUs available every year– effectively the barcodes for items).

There has been a few great cars on LEGO Technic, like an Enzo Ferrari. This supercar is an example of how cool it can look… although if you google a bit you will see MOC by people that make this car look like a toy.
In 2006, a poll was taken, aimed at the AFOL community. Adult fans were asked to share their ideas and opinions of what concept they would like to see for a future model from The LEGO Group. Some of the ideas submitted were: more town and everyday buildings, structures with more architectural detail, realistic buildings, minifigure scale buildings, solid and enclosed buildings, and more. These ideas were taken into consideration and a year later the first set in the Modular Buildings series, Café Corner, was released. A LEGO fan was invited to provide feedback and suggestions during the design of that set.[2]
Ok, so let’s say you just found out about the Lego modular buildings and want to create a really large, super cool Lego town, but the retired Lego modulars are out of your budget – what do you do? Combine multiple sets to create even bigger buildings! The first time I saw this idea was when someone built a second “middle floor” for the Café Corner to make it taller. I thought it was such a cool idea that I bought my own pieces and made an extra floor for my own Café Corner! However, the video below showing a Lego builder combining two identical sets into a single larger building is ever cooler! Plus, buying two retail sets today is still a lot cheaper than buying one retired set. So, what do you think of the idea?

The hardest part about the collection is obtaining the buildings that are discontinued. Most sets are discontinued 2-3 years after they are released. I was in a similar situation trying to obtain the Green Grocer and Market Street (already owned Cafe Corner). For both of these sets I used Brick Link to purchase each individual part and assemble the buildings. It’s a lot of work, but the Green Grocer set is now my favorite mainly due to the amount of effort I put into creating it.

The minifigs in this set are great. You get Leia in her Boussh bounty-hunter disguise, Chewbacca (complete with chains), Han Solo (who snaps into a great carbonite piece imprinted with his outline), Bib Fortuna (Jabba’s majordomo), Oola (the green-toned dancer), and a Gamorrean guard. There are also two unique figures — Jabba the Hutt himself (a wonderful model), and Salacious Crumb (his capering little monkey-like creature). Finally, there is a small build for a B’omarr Monk spider-droid.

Hopefully this overview will get you organized enough to start on that dream LEGO set you never thought would be possible to get. It can be a long road to see the fruits of your work, but when all is done you have the added accomplishment of knowing how much work went into the project. To date I’ve assembled two LEGO Modular Buildings I missed out on when they were originally released, and I’m currently working on a third. I’ve also completed a handful of old LEGO Castle sets.

At this point, you’ll want to review each one to make sure the shipping charges are not inflated.  If they are, then delete the lot from your page.  I usually estimate the shipping by the pounds of the Legos being sold.  If you’re looking at a 100 lb. lot, then the shipping should not be $200.  It should be closer to $100.  If it’s 20 lbs., the shipping will be somewhere in the ballpark of $20.  If the seller has listed the shipping at $50 for 20 lbs., then more than likely, they’ve inflated their prices.  When you are finished, you’ll have narrowed down your search to reputable sellers who are fair and honorable.

Lego helpfully make all of their instruction sheets downloadable for free from Lego.com. (This doesn’t stop people on eBay trying to sell the instruction booklets for a  good price, however. Buyer beware!)  If you have a good supply of Lego bricks already, you could start by downloading the plans of a coveted Harry Potter set, and see how many of the pieces you already have. Probably most of them, but the colors might not be exact. But here’s the thing: don’t get caught up with being exact. Kids don’t let a desire for 100% accuracy get in the way of play. One of my daughter’s friends saw the multi-colored Hogwarts we built and exclaimed “A rainbow castle! How cool!” That reminded me kids aren’t as uptight as adults about collecting or having things perfect.
Imagine if LEGO gave every set a 1-10 rating indicating its potential as for resale investment and then sent you and email letting you know when a set is being retired and always did a 50% discount for retiring sets. that would be amazing and super easy right?! But then again if they did that everyone and their mother would be investing in LEGO. One of the reasons why LEGO still has investment potential is because its actually pretty difficult so 99.9% of America doesnt stand a chance and making a profit, unless they did a ton of research and even then you still need a “feel” for the LEGO market, and thats not something someone can be taught, its just acquired with years of experience.
This set has quite a few play features, lots of minifigures, a horse and a catapult. This set is straight forward to put together; younger children shouldn’t have too much of a problem with it with a little help from older siblings or a parent. At an MSRP of $99 with the large pieces it contains, this set is a good value.
You can also order individual bricks from Lego.com, but the wall in the store gets you a better price. Another option for bulk buying is to order on ebay or from sites like BrickLink. (I’ve not done the latter, so I can’t verify the success of that approach; please use caution in your purchases.)
it’s sad to see them go. but seeing as in the last 9 months we had almost no set’s retired this is no big shock. well a shock to see them all set to go End of line at the same time. but not that we have set’s retiring.

If the sets have been used (pre-built) I would try Craigslist first to see if there is a local buyer. If you luck out you will have an end-buyer who just genuinely wants the sets you have for themselves and they are willing to pay a bit more for used sets, or you can sell them to a reseller for a bulk price. If you want top dollar you can list on eBay, but it will take up a lot of your time.

Design: This set uses a modular design. If you follow the instructions, you get eight distinct modules, four above ground and four below ground. You can arrange these in dozens of different ways to create tiny cave networks and a multi-layered effect. The caves have several different kinds of hidden resources that you can only see when you take the top layer off. The overall effect of the design is a pretty good representation of the Minecraft world.

It’s not the most expensive set on the list, but the clue to why you would want one is right there in the title. Lego collectors and just can’t wait to get their hands on the next most expensive Lego sets and pieces. The one-of-a-kind platinum Avohkii mask of Light from the discontinued Lego Bionicle line is believed to be the most expensive Lego piece ever sold, selling for a whopping $15,000 in 2012, according to Press Democrat. Lego collectors are imaginative, inventive people who are fascinated by building and creating masterpieces from the best Lego sets they can find. So, are you a Lego collector on the hunt for the next best Lego set? Well, we’ve done the research for you and have listed the 7 Most Expensive Lego Sets available today:
@ Genadi, as a Lego fan my entire life and now an AFOL (adult fan of Lego) I personally ask that you don’t support organizations from foreign countries that sell cheaper replicas of Lego sets like the ones in your aliexpress link. Lego is suing these companies like Lepin, which in my opinion is a horrible unethical company, for IP infringement. Since Chinese laws are different Lego will have a hard and expensive legal battle ahead of them. Yes they are cheaper and similar, but they are not Lego so the quality is not there and they are part of the reason for Lego’s higher price. Lego files many patents to protect itself and still you get organizations like these. Sorry to be a bummer on the good deal, but to me the big picture doesn’t justify the discount. Buy used Lego’s and recondition them. They will be like new. There are a few ways to do this on the Internet. Otherwise get them on clearance or at discount stores as noted. I hope this helps.
Let’s face it, LEGO makes a lot of sets, and LEGO is expensive. LEGO also retires sets after a period of time. All of this means that we may not be able to afford everything we want when available, and by the time we are ready to buy, the set of our dreams could be out of production. Or you may learn about an old set just now, but it has been retired years ago. So what to do? This is what we will explore today. 🙂

LEGO® Star Wars™ Darth Vader™ 75111 (NEW) Discontinued Lego for Star Wars fans. Measure 28.5cm height. PICK UP Only from: – Weekday from: Barangaroo/Wynard train Station – Weekend from: Macquarie shopping centre/Carlingford Court/Top Ryde shopping centres
This set comes with instructions for all three models. The pieces are bagged into several groups to make sorting easier. I find the models all to be great to play with, though I’ve left mine in the treehouse configuration. There are a nice variety of parts and building techniques to keep the builder interested throughout.
Judith, the discrepancy in sales usually has to do with what each region has in stock, and also what does and doesn’t sell well. The US market is very different from the market in the UK. We get our LEGO sets from the factory in Mexico (mostly), while you guys get them from mainland Europe (Denmark, Hungary, the Czech Republic). What sells well here may not sell well in the UK, and vice versa. There are even sets that only appear in a certain region based on market research and demand. It is normal for companies to have different strategies for different markets, based on extensive market research.

Yay! Doesn’t that feel good when something comes together like that? Glad you live close enough to a pick-a-brick wall. It’s an hour’s drive either way for me, so I went with the brick box, but still feel better than a set.
Dang, I was hoping to save money to get something like the Sandcrawler or the Ewok Village. I am also shocked to see Dr. Who and The Big Bang Theory up on that list to. I wonder if Lego is having supply issues again, or if demand is so high it brought about a fast end of those projects.
First, there’s the entrance area; it has a blast door that can be raised and braced into place (and also dropped with a satisfyingly heavy thud), and the door is guarded by a pair of guns that can be aimed. There’s a lookout tower above the entrance that provides a little extra play area and storage racks for items. The main part of the build is Jabba’s throne room. It features a moving platform that Jabba sits on, that can be moved forward and backwards, revealing a hidden storage area beneath it, along with the trap door that would be used to drop someone into the rancor pit. There’s a rotating mount point for Han Solo’s carbonite prison (so you can “free” him by flipping the piece around), along with a fair amount of decorative interior detail that does a great job of replicating the scene from the movie. The roof completes the build, and has a flick-fire missile mounted on its top; the roof can be easily removed to facilitate easier play with the interior.

If people aren't buying enough of the sets to keep a good profit after a few years, Lego might find that they would make more money using the same pieces if they were to discontinue the set and release a new one people would buy more of. If you already have an old set that is still on the market, there wouldn't be much point in buying a second or third. (assuming its for personal use.) Nice! Yeah, I have seen several people do that mirror image setup. The Pet Shop is such an incredibly versatile set. It is one of the reasons it stayed around for so long. Another is that both are good looking, but simple buildings, so they nicely fit in anywhere, and also easy to customize. The Pet Shop can be turned into any other shop with just some simple modifications. And the apartment side can be furnished in so many ways. Great set all in all. I’m glad you were able to get a second one. 🙂 Would've given it full stars, except there are translucent window pieces that are the most annoying Lego pieces ever... We can't tell if we had done missing pieces or if they were just lost because they are practically invisible lol! This Creator Carousel Lego set is one of the best Lego sets, and is nothing less than amazing. It should be considered a must have for all serious Lego collectors. The carousel is not just a display piece because it really spins and plays music while the intricately detailed horses and swing boats move up and down! This expensive Lego set also comes with nine figurines and over three-thousand pieces. Brick Fanatics is the website dedicated to all things LEGO, bringing you the latest news and reviews, as well as the best features and builds from the LEGO community. Brick Fanatics was formed by Richard Hayes in 2010 and is today owned and managed by Tiro Media Ltd. Castle Lego. Need I say more? This is a good set of Lego that I purchased as a gift. The young boy that I purchased this for seems to really enjoy the set. They are standard, high quality construction. This differs from the castle Lego set I had as a child. It appears that the company has made many improvements both in functionality and aesthetics. The castle still opens in the rear to create a long walled structure. This newer castle includes a secret escape, better draw bridge and portcullis. They have taken the original and improved it. When searching for bulk Legos for resale, do a search for "Lego pounds" or "Lego lbs" or "Bulk Lego", etc.  If a lot looks good, check the seller's feedback.  If it is 100%, mark the lot as an item to be watched (you'll find the link in the upper right corner of the listing).  Once you have five or six lots, go to your "My Ebay" page.  The lots will be listed there.  Megan, thanks for sharing! Yes, postage fees can really add up if you don’t manage your wanted list right. Good suggestion about buying parts for several projects at the same time. Have fun with piecing together those awesome sets! 🙂 Not having everything available any time for a reasonable price is what makes collecting fun. Whats a collection if not some of the pieces gain worth over time? Do you really want a world, where theres no way that any set in your collection will grow to a rare item? LEGO Star Wars celebrates its 15th anniversary this year, and some of my next few Collecting the Galaxy blog posts will be devoted to looking back at the history of the mashup franchise. In the first of these LEGO Star Wars-inspired blogs we look at the period between 1999 and 2005, which takes in the releases of the prequels and the first original trilogy sets, too. The very reason people are scrambling to collect the sets after they have been retired is because they didn't do so while they were in production, for any multitude of reasons. As an example, some of the Star Wars UCS sets -- 10143 Death Star, for example -- were discounted by LEGO for many months before they was discontinued. If the stock was really flying off the shelves, that wouldn't have been the case. Hey, I had the same thought as you. The set it way too expensive to buy and I want to actually have it assembled, not for collecting. Would you be able to share with me how you were able to get all the pieces and obtain the instructions? I’ve got to be honest with you: the first time I saw the concept of a U-Wing I hated it. It was probably 5 to 6 months before Rogue One was released, and I felt Lucasfilms was really stretching the “Letter-Wing ship” concept. I can give you some info. If you want a specific set check it weekly at the Lego store. It will get a retiring soon tag (not sold out or hard to get tags those are different). Past that check fan sites like this one, but don't take anything said on them as the final truth. I think you will find it doesn’t change too much. It’s a single outlier in the data set, and likely counter-balanced by two other outliers in Obi Wan’s Jedi Starfighter and the UCS B-Wing, which both had shorter than usual lifespans. About the previous post I made.  You did mention that the Star Destroyer you typed about was the 6211 set, but that’s the small set, the picture you have is of the big star destroyer, which is an Ultimate Collector Series set.  That’s the over 3,000 piece set.  So I guess right description, just wrong picture.   =D Most, if not all, of the sets branded with the same imminent departure label over the Christmas period are long gone by now. Three less widely-available System sets are currently marked as ‘retiring soon’, including two Star Wars Rebels sets, 75158 Rebel Combat Frigate and 75141 Kanan’s Speeder Bike. It’s interesting though, for example, doing a little research on the Modular Buildings, it looks like the average active selling life per set is about 2+ years. Strange that Market Street’s life was “cut short”. Not sure about the average life for SW, HP or the rest.

The Fire Brigade (set # 10197) has a furnished interior but is unusual in that it only has two floors instead of the usual three. This is due to the first floor having raised ceilings to allow for the entrance of the fire truck. The top floor is superbly decorated with a small kitchen and recreational area including a couch and ping-pong table for the firefighters! The fire truck has some wonderful vintage details and the bell and water barrel on the roof and American flag on the front really add to its overall charm.
Nice list, i’d suggest the grand prix racer (lego technic 42000) for the 7th spot. Can have power functions added to it but the main reason is just the thing being very detailed and close to 60cm long.
Our mid-range kit, for those looking for some additional complexity over the Millennium Falcon while also enjoying a set from the original trilogy of films, Lego’s star Wars TIE Fighter set is a relatively-expensive kit, coming in at $199 for about 1,700. It’s not exactly a deal, but for those fans of the evil Empire, the TIE Fighter will bring back dozens of memories of watching Empire Strikes Back on lazy Sunday afternoons—and it’ll look great on your shelf, too. This is an incredibly detailed set, something we’ve come to love and appreciate about the time Lego puts into building their sets. And while it might not be 4,000 pieces like what you get with the Death Star set, 1,700 pieces is the perfect number to hold your attention for weeks at a time while not absorbing your entire life into one brick-themed nightmare. The TIE Fighter comes with an included stand, along with a beautiful card to go along with your display. It’s the perfect size for a project to build with your kid, so long as they remember that the Collector’s series of Lego sets, of which this falls into, aren’t typically meant to be played with—they’re just too fragile.
I wouldn’t worry too much about the retired sets. Aftermarket prices increase with time, but not as much as when a popular set retires. Just get in on the lineup before it progresses even more than it has now.
We know how important it is for you to get what you ordered and get it fast. If there’s a problem, just let us know and we fix it. We do our best to as quickly as possible. LEGO Classic Creati…
My youngest child recently became a Lego fanatic (as am I). She was already enthralled by the Harry Potter books and movies, so the discovery that two of her favorite things were now combined (and just before Christmas, too) gave birth to a new obsession. Unfortunately, Lego stopped making Harry Potter Lego sets last year.
LEGO 10218 Pet Shop was the sixth modular building and released in May 2011. It is unique in that it is actually two smaller buildings, a townhouse and a pet shop with loft, that can be separated from each other.

As of 2005, Lego has begun to re-incorporate studded bricks back into the Technic line, which can be seen in sets such as 8421 (found on Peeron), Mobile Crane. However, studded bricks are used primarily as to mount front grills in vehicles while transparent plates are used for lights.

Yes. I definitely think that the current price for CMF is higher than their intrinsic worth, therefore we have a classic bubble on hand. It will burst at some point. However, I think the S1 and even S2 figures, on the other hand, are not overvalued and were not overvalued during the original sale run. Since S1 and S2 saw shorter manufacturing runs, the figures are more rare. Also being the first sets of its kind provide the added value we see with such objects like a first edition book. When we got to S3, the levels of production increased making the items less rare. Pricing increased as well making purchase less compelling. If you’re looking at CMFs as an investment, I don’t think they really are anymore.
Holy crap, is this one’s lovely. And although it might look fairly simple from this angle, it’s actually a properly challenging kit. It consists of 4,634 pieces, and it opens up on hinges to reveal a variety of rooms and staircases within. Once it’s built, though, there are hours of fun to be had. It’s like a ghoulish dolls house! Which is just what you were looking for, right?

“lego shop at home lego 8925”

The Sales and Deals section of the Online LEGO Shop was recently updated with some interesting surprises. In addition, the Online LEGO Shop in the UK listed all the large sets that will be retiring soon, which is also interesting to see. Below we will take a look at both lists and see what is worth to buy before getting retired, and before the Double VIP Points period expires in a few days. So let’s begin. 🙂
➡ LEGO ULTRA AGENTS SETS ON SALE: Yet another theme that is getting close to retirement is LEGO Ultra Agents. So far only a couple of sets are on sale; #70163 LEGO Ultra Agent’s Toxikita’s Toxic Meltdown, and #70161 LEGO Ultra Agents Tremor Track Infiltration. Both are great sets from the first wave of LEGO Ultra Agents, and it might be a good idea to keep checking if others go on sale as You can find them under the Sales & Deals section. BUY HERE
You’ve put way more though into this than have. Since there is a lack of white bearded faces, I was considering Count Duku?’s face for president Snow. I got it some time ago but I can’t quite remember how and maybe use BrickForge hero hair in white.
We have ZERO items in Sales & Deals here in the UK. The USA & Canada both have 37 sale items in Lego online shop. Doesn’t really seem fair, that the rest of world cannot grab a bargain from the Lego online store. Really annoying, because at the end of the day all customers should be treated the same!!
For me, secondary market is a blessing. I have a chance to buy retired technic sets thanks to collectors and investors and i don’t have a problem with paying an extra cash for those sets i call it “delay tax” because i just came out of my Dark Ages.

That’s a great deal, I got mine from Target too, and it was $29.99….was yours an online return? Because when the someone returns an item they bought online, the price is epically reduced, even if it is pristine condition.
➡ LEGO FRIENDS SETS ON SALE: A number of LEGO Friends sets are also retiring soon and are on sale, including the large #41134 LEGO Friends Heartlake Performance School (with a school bus!), the #41132 LEGO Friends Heartlake Party Shop, and a few small but sweet sets, like the #41305 LEGO Friends Emma’s Photo Studio. You can find them under the LEGO Friends section or under Sales and Deals at the Online LEGO Shop.

I’d love Lego Hunger Games. I was thinking of making my own too. Actually my Dino Hunter with the CMF series will be my Katniss, though, I think she needs a nicer looking face. Katniss has resting bitch face but not that bad.
Our whole family is so excited about Lego’s Creator line. Our very advanced 6 year old loves to build Legos however the really cool ones that keep him interested are still too advanced for him. Our second problem is that once they are built they are just dust collectors. NOT THIS ONE. He was able to build it with minimal help and he can actually play with it too! ➡ LEGO NINJAGO SETS ON SALE: Getting ready for The LEGO Ninjago Movie sets means clearing out some of the old stock related to the TV show. You can find some really great sets on sale like the #70595 LEGO Ninjago Ultra Stealth Raider, the #70605 LEGO Ninjago Misfortune’s Keep, the #70604 LEGO Ninjago Tiger Widow Island, the #70603 LEGO Ninjago Raid Zeppelin and more. I completely understand your point Rabbit, and your right, I do like that sets hold their value, and even increase over time. Being an adult and having extra money affords me the benefit of buying more than most. As a collector though, and having no intention of ever selling, I could care less if everyone had every set. I do it to relax and enjoy, not for profit. Again, I am not knocking those that do it for profit but there are many sides to every discussion. So to sum up, for me I wouldnt mind sets being more readily available.
I got this Lego Creator Treehouse set for my six year old and she really love it. I did help her along the way as the there are many tiny pieces which some little ones may not be able to hold tight and snap into the right places. This set is great for a weekend to spend time together building it. The instructions are very clear and laid out step by step.I would say at a mellow relaxed pace this set takes a good hour from start to finish with you helping your little one. I can also imagine this toy being fun even for much older kids if they are fans of Lego sets.
At the end of the day, this is our website and our list, so our opinion had the final say.  However, we’d be fools not to use the opinions of thousands of other brickheads out there.  We checked out the set ratings from the top retailers and factored them into our ratings when necessary.  We weren’t going to have a strong opinion swayed, but if we were on the fence about any, we’d take those ratings into consideration.
I like the set because it’s modular and can be quickly rebuilt to make your own scenes. I also like the flat 1×1 plates – but there sure are a lot of them. As far as set weights go, this is pretty light. Lots of tiny pieces could pose an issue for younger builders. I built my first set in an hour, and my second in 45 minutes, but I could see build times easily doubling mine depending on age. Kids obviously love it, and for parents it can be frustrating to see your kids want something that doesn’t maximize pieces/dollar/gram ratios, but there’s a good econ lesson in there. Especially if you can work something in about scalpers and aftermarket pricing. A note on that – don’t pay their ludicrous prices. Keep an eye out and you can snag this set fairly easily. SlickDeals always has a thread posted when this set is in stock.
My friend Sharon is an expert at building and buying LEGO. She explained to me a couple great ways to save money on bricks. While a set is great, having a variety of pieces to build with on your own is even better.
So I decided that I must once again sort the ones we have and buy even more bricks even though I swore I wouldn’t buy anymore.  Then, I started asking the experts (fellow parents) how to get those darn bricks for cheap? Here’s what I got so far:
LEGO City Mining 4×4 set 4200 in good condition. Complete set with no missing pieces. Includes instructions (no box). This is a retired set. Check out my other ads for more stuff. Please email, call …
Brickwizard is a program that works off of Brickstore and it can help do all the leg work in trying to find the best prices on bricklink. The only downside is that it is not as flexible when and if you want to make substitutions.
Four years later, Lego is still high on her Christmas list. I’m happy to contribute, albeit without spending inordinate amounts of cash. While specific sets are great, there are other ways to please your Lego-maniacs. Here’s how, you, too, can save some pennies on Lego.
Make sure you are not missing out on sets that have already been made, as the first wave of Rogue One is going to retire with the end of 2017 – including my TIE Striker and Krennic’s shuttle, to be replaced by SOMETHING BIG and SOMETHING EVEN MUCH, MUCH BIGGER 🙂

I kept the enemy at bay for a long time. I was no stranger to stepping on sharp little pointy plastic pieces in the middle of the night; I had little brothers. So, I told my sons that we were not going to have Lego.
Getting a child to look closely and really examine subtle differences?  I love that- he’s actually holding a little tiny robot claw for Brickbot in this photo.  Thank you Megan Rothrock- we love Brickbot!
Poe’s X-Wing stands out with the bold black and orange color scheme.  This is a stark contrast to the usual gray and red/blue scheme from the original trilogy.  The assembled starship takes up some space, but does so with a relatively small piece count of 717.  It has all of the features you would want from an X-wing, the wings switch between attack and flight positions, multiple shooters, and retractable landing gear.  Included with set are Poe and two generic Resistance members, the real gem is naturally the BB-8 who sits nicely behind the cockpit.  The build is fairly straightforward and is certainly shorter than some of the bigger sets, but will keep you interested.  Come for the slick color scheme on the awesome X-wing, stay for the great features and BB-8.
If you recall, the September LEGO Store Calendar mentioned two exclusive sets that were slated for early VIP release from September 14 to 30. We now know that the first is the highly publicized UCS Millennium Falcon (75192), while the second is the LEGO Creator Expert Winter Village Station (10259). The latter is the fifth holiday-themed, D2C Creator Expert set to be released by LEGO, following the likes of the Winter Village Market (10235), Santa’s Workshop (10245), Winter Toy Shop (10249), and the Winter Holiday Train (10254). read more

They even manage to maintain some minor level of screen accuracy (to reason of course). Many recall the scene from Star Wars (Ep. IV 1977) where Luke, Chewy and Han spring Leia from her prison cell aboard the Death Star then flee into the garbage chute, only to face the Dianoga and imminently collapsing walls of the compactor. You can recreate this scene exactly. And I recently discovered you can even throw the minifigures into the garbage chute and they will land in the garbage compactor. There is also a lever that then allows you to collapse the walls. There are even little bits of garbage and the dreaded Dianoga included.
Every person works best with their own system, so these final tips are offered as suggestions to try in an effort to help. They are not meant to be definitive in any sense of the word. You may implement the ones you like and disregard the ones that don’t work for you.

New building techniques introduced with this set include a systematic way of building numbers. On the front of the building the year 1932 appears, which is a reference to when LEGO was founded. The number 3 also appears on the pavement of the set representing that this is the 3rd set on the series from Lego set designer Jamie Berard (he had previously designed Café Corner and Green Grocer).[15]
This small set is a lot of fun. I was surprised to see how much power pulling back on the car really builds up- plenty to go up a ramp or even make it jump across something. The car is a solid build, nothing falling off easily even if hitting a couch or table leg. Real rubber tires provide great traction on smooth surfaces.

I first saw this Lego set on the Lego website and instantly fell in love with it. At first I could not justify the steep price but after a few shots of Lagavulin 16, drunk me thought it was a great idea. This was my first large set that I have constructed and let me tell you, it was a blast to see the ingenuity that went into planning out the design. When I received it in the mail I was as giddy as a 29 year old engineer who likes whiskey and Legos. I opened the box and separated the bags. I pulled the coffee table close as I carefully opened the bags and started my adventure. It took a few hours over a few days to complete but when I was done I felt a sense of pride I had not felt since I thought of giving my leftovers to that homeless person that one time. Best enjoyed with smooth jazz, some candles, and a single malt scotch.
You may have to make some substitutes to the parts because some of the listed parts are very specific to the set. Using this method I was able to build the Green Grocer for ~$400 and Market Street for ~$200.
Fischertechnik offers a similar pneumatics system for robotic and control technology hobbyists. The Fischertechnik system includes an electrically activated air solenoid, a feature not available in the Lego range.
nothing really strange about it, IMHO. Market Street was produced under the Factory line, and almost undoubtedly had a much more limited production run than the official LEGO-designed Modulars of the same timeline (CC and then GG)

LEGO traditionally retires the oldest LEGO Modular Building amongst the currently available sets right around August/September, before a new model gets added to the collection at the beginning of the following year. Retiring a set means that LEGO is not making any more, and whatever stock is left will be sold until all the sets are gone. In the case of most of the previous LEGO Modular Buildings, the remaining sets sold out so fast that it caught people by surprise and they had to turn to the secondary market to purchase them for much higher prices. The currently available LEGO Modular Buildings are as follows:

As we mentioned up top, using Lego sets to connect with your kids as you build and assemble sets and series can be a ton of fun for both you and them. One major problem with our sets so far: some kids might just not interested in cars or architecture. It’s only natural for children to grow into their own interests as they age, so if you want to try connecting with something almost every child loves at some point, you should try some of our Lego Star Wars sets we’ve collected within this list. The first of our three entries involves one of the most notable, important ships from the entire franchise: the Millennium Falcon. Han Solo’s classic light freighter was recreated when Star Wars: The Force Awakens came out, and this particular set includes figures for Han, Chewie, Rey, Finn, and everyone’s favorite droid, BB-8, plus a couple other characters you might remember from a fun scene within the film. The set’s a bit pricey at $117, but with over 1,300 pieces, it’ll keep you busy for hours to come. Bonus: if you can find it for a reasonable price online (read: under $1,000), the Ultimate Collector’s Millennium Falcon was a limited-run item from a few years ago that was massive and came with over 5,000 pieces. It’s neat, but for the price, you’re better off with the cheaper model.
As is the case with virtually every Lego set, your child will be limited only by his, or her, imagination and perseverance. Although the kit is designed for younger children graduating from Lego Duplos, you can be confident that your child will never actually grow out of the Ultimate Building Set. All of the pieces can be incorporated into future Lego collections.
^ I agree – it’s one thing creating scarcity in order to get a buying rush, but it’s quite another to miss out on half your market by cutting it too soon. I’ve been expecting run extensions for the modulars, especially GE.
“As with any sort of collectible, the safe storage of the collectible is very important,” Ed Mack explains in a piece on How to make money from Lego . “Although the actual Lego brick is pretty much indestructible under normal conditions, the Lego boxes and instructions need special care.”

Whether you enjoy building and displaying your LEGO works of art and sharing them with friends who also love the classic toys or simply building and rebuilding whenever you see fit, this compilation is well worth exploring. From Disney castles to the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars to the White House to the Seattle Space Needle to toy shops and beyond, there are plenty of super-fabulous options to select from. Spend rainy afternoons erecting LEGO masterpieces…or any other time you are in the mood to “build”! Have fun, and remember to pick up those little pieces! 🙂
There are a lot of reasons that LEGO might stop producing a set, and I would assume it’s a balance between the cost of doing production runs of the necessary pieces, the projected volume of sales, and their availability of SKUs.

“lego series lot lego”

Listen, most Legos are going to go down in value the minute you buy them. Just try selling some generic Legos on Craigslist and see what the response is. The point isn’t to simply stock up on whatever Legos you can find. There are things to look for:

Lego, like any company, has to periodically thin their line in order to make room for new sets. Production of parts can only occur at a particular rate and if too many sets are in production, they can’t meet the production of them all. Additionally, there’s only so much life that molds have and some sets which use unique molds are not likely to be continued beyond the lifespan of the mold. Once it breaks, they have to weigh the time and cost of replacing them to the time and money they will spend doing so as opposed to the money that could be made making a new mold for a new set altogether.

This set has quite a few play features, lots of minifigures, a horse and a catapult. This set is straight forward to put together; younger children shouldn’t have too much of a problem with it with a little help from older siblings or a parent. At an MSRP of $99 with the large pieces it contains, this set is a good value.
Yeah, it is a good idea to keep a balance. Some sets/themes are worth letting go, other’s are worth to keep. I know many people who greatly regret selling their collection, others are afraid to sell them and are burried under boxes they never even opened. For me the judgement to sell anything (LEGO or otherwise) is that if I haven’t touched it/used it for 6 months, it is time to let it go and have someone else enjoy it. This also opens up space (and money) for new things in my life. So it’s a win-win. 😉
Nothing in life is easy or free, as ive said before the days of buying literally any starwars LEGO set and making 300-400% ROI in one year are long gone. There is still money to be made but its a much more complicated game now, to think that LEGO would hand you a profitable investment on a silver platter by labeling everything with “retiring soon” so you can go out at the last minute buy a bunch and flip them for loads of quick profit is crazy.
The pièce de résistance of the Lego Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series with a price-tag that beggars belief. Consisting of a whopping 5,195 bricks and weighing in at just over 10kg, the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy is the second-largest Lego set ever and is the jewel in the Lego Star Wars crown.
We don’t often see a LEGO® set like the new 42055, the Bucket Wheel Excavator. LEGO® boasts this as the largest Technic set ever made. It is a new 2016 set and it is made up of 3929 pieces. So, Read more »
My daughter is big into Minecraft and Lego’s, so for Christmas I was trying to get somethings that that would fit those two niches. This set has a lot of detail, Lego did a great job as usual translating Minecraft into the Lego world, although, I think that Minecraft being an 8-bit world is a natural. Putting this set together kept my daughter busy for a good chunk of Christmas day, and as a parent anything that’s not electronic that makes her use her brain, makes me happy. This is a high quality set that any Minecraft/Lego fan will be happy to own. I highly recommend.
There are only two ships more iconic than the X-Wing, and both of them made this list. No rebel force will be complete without a fleet of X-Wings, but this 1,304 piece set is a bit too pricey for you to make your own squadron. Coming up with $3,500 to purchase one these resistance fighters might be as difficult as destroying the Death Star.
Get busy building whatever you imagine with this colorful set of LEGO building blocks in different shapes and sizes! From space rockets and robots to dinosaurs and sharks, this set gives budding builders of all ages the versatility to be really… more
Lego discontinues sets for a lot of different reasons… Mostly because of demand for parts I am sure, they cannot thin out their lines to keep 1000 more sets in production, plus sets get old, they do.. most people buy one and they want to see the next one out.. therefore if they were to make more of them then no one would buy.. and no, only selling 3 sets to people over 1 year is not their idea of good sales…. Then they would need to list a lot of their warehouse for 50% off.. again not something they want to do…. I mean look at the steamrollers and pig farms, which would not die… I think the biggest reason is to keep the lines fresh.. not to mention sets can come back at times (see the Metroliner, Main street, Black Falcons Fortress and Guarded Inn and recently the Maersk Container ship).
This step will be the most tedious process of the whole project, However a Wanted List is a crucial step. It allows for fast and easy searches of stores and can enable some quick filtering. Additionally, there are LEGO fans out there who have made free software available that takes care of all the BrickLink searching for you in regards to best combination of prices and shipping fees. For more information on this check out the BrickLink forums.
There are some other odds and ends, but these are pretty much the largest and most interesting sets that are getting retired and are now on sale. Please note that sale items usually move very quickly, so if you want to grab them before they are gone, I would suggest you do so by the end of the week. It is also a good idea to check the Sales & Deals section of the Online LEGO Shop at least once a month to see if anything new is added.
My daughter is young, but already computer literate enough to search eBay for Harry Potter Lego Sets.  The prices for complete Harry Potter sets tends to be sky high (eBay prices are second only to the after-market prices on Amazon) — although you can find bargains if you pay attention. You might find a loose set (no box, most of the pieces) for 1/2 to 3/4 of the (after-market) price of the unopened box, but that’s still expensive (as they’re going for three times the retail price when in-stores) and slightly dodgy, as you don’t know for sure that all the pieces are there until you build the set.
➡ LEGO CITY VOLCANO SETS ON SALE: The LEGO City Volcano Exploration line is getting retired in favor of the recently released LEGO City Jungle Exploration theme, so most of the LEGO City Volcano sets are now on sale. There are some really nice sets in the collection, like the #60125 LEGO City Volcano Heavy-Lift Helicopter, the #60124 LEGO City Volcano Exploration Base, the #60123 LEGO City Volcano Supply Helicopter, and the #60121 LEGO City Volcano Exploration Truck. You can find them under the LEGO City section, or just go to the Sales & Deals section of the Online LEGO Shop.
Lando Calrissian’s floating city of Bespin is one of the smaller classic Star Wars sets, but where else can you find a “working” carbon freezing chamber? With four distinct “play areas” and a star-studded mini-figure collection, you would be hard-pressed to have a bad feeling about this minimal set.
