What would be of a LEGO Technic blog without a top ten list? I have built a list with the Technic sets I have been more impressed. I have a few of them and I will try for sure to get the rest. So here is the list
Also known as Dark Shark II or Black Skull, this Lego set is pretty detailed as the aftcastle can be accessed by opening its sidewalls as well as detaching a piece of the poop deck. You can also move the rudder by turning the steering wheel! One customer wrote, “…there is no set that can beat the Skull’s Eye Schooner.” This set is definitely in the running to be one of the best Lego sets because it has a plethora of cool features such as a compass next to the steering wheel and an odd postbox where you can find a glass and a gun.
The set does have a lot of play value, again making it better suited for kids than adult Lego fans. The submersible robot and helicopter are both sturdy builds and fit well on the boat (which transports them). The lighthouse is grossly, hilariously out of scale, but I won’t complain about a blue plate getting tossed into this set. The minifigs are pretty standard, though I like the radio headset the one Coast Guard minifig wears.
Stand 3D angled slots for Star Wars Lego 75179 Kylo Ren’s Tie Fighter. Stand 3D slots for Lego 75154 Tie Striker (Star Wars). Stand 3D for Lego 75094 Tydirium (Star Wars). Name of the model and First Order symbol in 3D cut.
I have to totally disagree with the reviewer that said this set is way overpriced. Yes, this set is expensive but I think it is totally in line with what Lego prices are today. This is the biggest set I have gotten, its larger size justifies the $50 price increase from the other two Lego Modular Buildings I own, the LEGO Creator Fire Brigade 10197 and LEGO Creator Grand Emporium 10211, which both MSRP at $150. The Town Hall has 2766 pieces and 8 minifigures, the Grand Emporium has 2182 pieces and 7 minifigures and the Fire Brigade has 2231 pieces and 4 minifigues, the Town Hall as almost 25% more pieces than the Brigade and but the price went up less than 25%.

Rubber bands – Rubber bands can have various uses in TECHNIC sets. They can be used for pulleys by connecting two pulley wheels, and can form tire treads if one loops a small rubber band around a single large wheel.
For parrot owners reading this, you probably are looking for an interesting toy to keep your fid from getting bored. Legos are a great choice for a Conure sized bird, providing they’re supervised and don’t have access to the smaller parts in the set.
Interestingly the #10224 LEGO Creator Town Hall is also shown as sold out. I have bought this set a few days ago when it was shown as backordered, as well as the #10243 LEGO Creator Parisian Restaurant – there was a few days of delay, but I have received both sets with no problems. At the time I placed the order I was told that the #10224 LEGO Creator Town Hall will be back in stock on the 16th, so I’m curious why it’s showing as sold out right now. There has been rumors that this set will retire early, so this may in fact be the end. If you are interested in this set I would highly suggest that you call LEGO’s customer service right now before it is too late.
Aye, Lego mateys! When it comes to purchasing this amazing ship, Lego collectors and pirate lovers are ready to ‘walk the plank’ and dive in. Released in 1993, this set includes a large three-masted pirate ship, nine pirate figurines, a rowboat, a shark, and much more. This ship is armed with four cannons that are mounted on turntables that slide from port to starboard. Included on either side of the poop deck are two smaller non-functional cannons.
Love the blog, and have almost this entire series (missing the original two). Any idea on what the second exclusive set will be? I’ve got the toy set, and just want to know when the second comes out, so I can place another order!
My youngest child recently became a Lego fanatic (as am I). She was already enthralled by the Harry Potter books and movies, so the discovery that two of her favorite things were now combined (and just before Christmas, too) gave birth to a new obsession. Unfortunately, Lego stopped making Harry Potter Lego sets last year.

I went to the new Lego shop in Liverpool UK today I asked if they had Lego fire brigade and they said it has now been discontinued and sold the last five this morning. It is still saying back orders accepted on website. They said they only hear about a set being discontinued a week before they sell out, if you are looking for it I would grab one soon
I’ll be bricklinking all 6 of the retired modulars: TH, CC, GG, FB, GE, and MS. I don’t mind swapping the high dollar parts out for cheaper ones, as these are more for display and I don’t plan to resell them. I’ve found a couple good resources for subbing the parts: here, here, and here.

“lego creator sale review -lego friends junior review”

We are a company of Lego enthusiasts whose aim is to sell discontinued Lego products for the cheapest price that is possible. We often have some of the best Lego deals in the UK, especially on rare and hard to find sets. As we are collectors and huge fans of Lego ourselves, we are different to the large retailers who sell a variety of products. We have a passion for keeping our products in great condition and will never send out products that are not suitable to give as presents. We have been collecting Lego for many years now and our collection consists of the entire Lego Architecture range, VW Beetle, VW Camper, a couple of Ferrari’s, (Lego ones, not real ones), loads of Minifigures and much, much more.
Sponsored Products are advertisements for products sold by merchants on Amazon.com. When you click on a Sponsored Product ad, you will be taken to an Amazon detail page where you can learn more about the product and purchase it.
But, unsurprisingly, it can be tough to find a Lego set that suits you. Some of us want something professional-looking, to complete at night after a difficult day of work. Others of us are still kids at heart, or might be looking for something that we can complete with our kids under our supervision. Whatever you’re looking for in a Lego set, we think we’ve found some of the best ones on the market right now—though make no mistake, you’ll be paying for these extravagant kits. Let’s take a look at fifteen of the best Lego sets for adults.
I do like the Modular Buildings and with Pet Shop coming out, I am greatly considering jumping in if the Fire Brigade and Grand Emporium haven’t convinced me. The stalling point of course is budget and price, plus where would I put them for display.
The thirteenth set of the modular buildings is a particularly large one — 10260 Downtown Diner includes 2480 pieces. A three-store building with a 1950s-style diner in the first level, a gym on the second level and a recording studio on the third. Includes 6 minifigures and a pink convertible car.
So what can we conclude from this information, where we see some sets getting new, updated boxes and other sets continuing to use old boxes without the new Creator Expert logo? For the modular buildings collection, the box changes reinforce what we already suspected: 10218 Pet Shop is likely the next modular to retire. For the vehicles and landmarks lineups, we may expect 10220 Volkswagen T1 Camper Van and 10214 Tower Bridge to live on a bit longer, although any set that is as old as those sets should be considered at some risk of retirement. The biggest piece of information that could possibly be inferred from these box changes, however, is that 10234 Sydney Opera House could be a surprise candidate for early retirement. It’s difficult to know for certain if that will be the case, but that would be a huge, massively unexpected move that would catch many collectors and investors off-guard. In the recent past, large sets that retired unexpectedly, such as 10224 Town Hall experienced large, immediate gains in value. Could 10234 Sydney Opera House be the next set to do just that?
The hellicarrier is being retired soon as well. I’d also expect the Silent Mary to have a limited run and be retired next year. The Batcace which did not do as well is on its way out. And good bye to Hoth which was not well received. Additionally, Lego sold 16,000 UCS milleniaks Falcons within hours of the VIP release yesterday.
There’s a difference between boys and girls. Yeah, I mean, beyond that one difference. If you give male and female monkeys toys and you give them toy cars and dolls, the male monkey will generally start playing with the car, even if they have no proper understanding of what a car even is. It has moving wheels, it can be pushed down slopes, it speaks to the technical part of the brain. The female monkey will more likely pick up the doll. The “caring” instinct.
If you’ve a pocket full of change, you might want to empty it out, as you could be in for some very good news. That’s according to the money experts at ChangeChecker, who have revealed a fascinating Scarcity Index, detailing the 37 ‘rare’ £2 coins that are set to be worth a mint one day – and many of them are still in circulation.
My son has spatial dyslexia and enjoys building with legos. He really likes to get the sets, but I find that I do most of the building and he does most of the fretting because he can’t see what he needs to do.
BILLUND, DENMARK (April 1, 2015) – For many LEGO fans, the 10185 Café Corner and 10182 Green Grocer were some of our most popular sets in the LEGO Modular Building series. For the newer LEGO fans who may have out on them, we’re now bringing these sets back, for a limited time, the same way that they were released in 2007 and 2008, respectively. This reintroduction of the sets will also bring a brand new theme called Revival.
Fire Brigade (set number 10197), released in September 2009, was the fourth set in the Modular Buildings series. The set contains 2231 pieces, was priced at MSRP US$149/149€, and is recommended for builders 16 years of age or older. Modeled to look like a realistic 1930s fire station, the set includes a bell tower, an opening garage door, a 1930s style fire truck, and 4 minifigures with a fire-dog. Like Green Grocer, all floors in the Fire Brigade set are fully furnished.[15] The Fire Brigade is the first Modular to come with a vehicle, the 1930s-style fire truck. The set also includes some new, unique pieces, such as gold fire helmets and a red sliding garage door.[15]

My 7 year old lego loving daughter has been asking for this Batcave for MONTHS. We finally bought it for her and she was not disappointed! She is way into legos, and she can usually build the sets pretty quick, which is good for her ego, but bad when you spend so much money on something that they are interested in for only about an hour. Fortunately, this set took her several hours to build! And, it has the added bonus of being an actual play set where she and her brother can sit around and play with the little characters that come with it… I mean its a functioning Batcave. It has brought them hours of entertainment so far!
Excellent condition. Bought for my son but he didn’t like it. SAFETY 3-point safety harness. COMFORT Padded seat and soft adjustable headrest for newborn comfort and support. SIMPLE & QUICK Backrest folds for easy transportation. VERSATILITY Can easily be adjusted to a rocking or stationary position. EXTRAS Adjustable toy bar comes with removable toys. WEATHER PROTECTION Large fold back canopy to provide shade during the warmer months.
When I first saw this set, I knew I had to have it. The old school design makes it a must have to go along with the other Creator buildings. Overall, it is a very detailed Lego set that looks nice with the other sets. While I will still probably get the Lego fire station, this was set is very cool and a must have just for looks alone.

In addition to that, the police bike, SUV and the two new vehicles make it very effective. One particular feature that we loved was the McCain figure present, it was happy to see that children really appreciated and recognized a great hero.

There are some other odds and ends, but these are pretty much the largest and most interesting sets that are getting retired and are now on sale. Please note that sale items usually move very quickly, so if you want to grab them before they are gone, I would suggest you do so by the end of the week. It is also a good idea to check the Sales & Deals section of the Online LEGO Shop at least once a month to see if anything new is added.

“With the soar in popularity of Lego with both adults and children, the effect on the values of both rare, hard to find sets and new releases has been incredible,” said Bev Channell, event director for Lego event BRICK 2015, running at Birmingham’s NEC this week.
Thanks to Sharon’s advice, years ago I bought the girls a large pink brick box on Christmas sale. The brick box contains starter pieces for building that can be combined in a number of ways. It doesn’t lock the child into building one particular thing, like the Shelob Attacks set that one of them had requested.
I also like to create a completely new Wanted List for each project and leave my default main Wanted List open for miscellaneous wants. Once the list is populated, you may want to take a moment to compare the list to the set’s inventory page. When I put together my Wanted List for the #10195 LEGO Modular Market Street, to my surprise, a few parts were left off because they had a MID (Matching Part ID). Turns out that in this instance the system did not know which part to add, so it did not add either. For those who are confused, you are not alone. MID parts are parts that look and act exactly how you might need them in a set. There are small differences, but nothing that matters when it comes to the set you are working on. For example, a bus that uses white train windows can use the ones that have or don’t have shutter-holes. The parts look nearly identical except for this very minor difference. However, a set like the #10190 LEGO Modular Market Street uses shutters in the white train windows so only one type will work. Essentially, you need to make sure that the system did not leave off any parts. It is very annoying when you get around to building to find that you are missing a single part that is not terribly rare, but you just don’t have it.
Minifigures – The little LEGO people are called “minifigures” or “minifigs” for short. Sort them out so they can be seen in your photographs. Also sort out minifigure accessories like hats, swords, tools, etc. If you have a large number of minifigures you might consider putting them in their own listing. Minifigures are popular items on eBay.
Finally, look for high quantities of a piece in the parts-list. My rule of thumb is to look at anything that uses double digits – so 10 or more. Many times I can disregard small pieces like 1×1 bricks that I know I have plenty of. Once you identify parts you are concerned about, click on that part’s number, select the right color, and see what they are selling for. It is important to keep an eye on the country the seller is from since shipping will eat at your budget faster than anything else. It was during this time I discovered that I not only needed fifty 1×8 sand-green bricks, but that they were each about $2.50. After $125 total for that, I discovered I also needed fifty-six 1×2 sand-green bricks with a groove. They were just as expensive. Not great for my budget. And even after being able to identify some of these obvious expensive pieces, you can still run into rare parts you might not have expected. In the case of the #10185 LEGO Modular Green Grocer, there was a blue arch piece that came in very few other sets, thus it was expensive.
Our latest featured LEGO set is the City Ambulance 4431 first released in 2011.  The set is made of 199 pieces.  It was designed for ages 5 to 12.   There are three minifigures, two paramedics and a patient.  The Read more »
As thehornedrat says, I may have to succumb to lepin for the opera house set along with the Taj Mahal and the very early modulars which I missed. I refuse to the prices being asked on eBay for these sets because A, I can’t afford it and B, I think these investors who stockpile sets to try and mug people off by making huge profits when they retire are worse than lepin.
I kept the enemy at bay for a long time. I was no stranger to stepping on sharp little pointy plastic pieces in the middle of the night; I had little brothers. So, I told my sons that we were not going to have Lego.

“lego ultimate _lego landmarks sets”

This item may have minor scuff marks on it, but still looks very good. WARNING – LEGO pieces are intended and rated for children 5 years and up. Be advised that LEGO parts should not be swallowed as it can present a choking hazard.
I haven’t tried it myself yet, since my daughter is a little young for Legos, but I’ve heard great things about Pley. It’s a monthly Lego and Duplo rental service, kind of like Netflix for Legos. It could be a great way to try some of the cool sets before you spend lots of money on them, since we all know that just because it’s expensive doesn’t mean it will hold your child’s interest. It could also cut down on clutter, since you get to use lots of new sets without having to store the old ones.

If the sets have been used (pre-built) I would try Craigslist first to see if there is a local buyer. If you luck out you will have an end-buyer who just genuinely wants the sets you have for themselves and they are willing to pay a bit more for used sets, or you can sell them to a reseller for a bulk price. If you want top dollar you can list on eBay, but it will take up a lot of your time.
The minifigure as we know it today, standing 4 cm. or four bricks high, has always been an iconic cornerstone of LEGO sets, designed by LEGO model builder Jens Nysgarrd Knudsen and first released in 1978. According to LEGO.com, the yellow color was chosen to display equalization in ethnic society. In 2003, minifigures with natural skin tones were released as part of the LEGO NMA Basketball line to represent specific people such as Shaquille O’Neal. These natural toned minifigures didn’t make it to LEGO Star Wars until 2005, just in time for the release of sets for Episode III, including General Grievous Chase (#7255), which included Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi Starfighter, and Vulture Droid (#7256), which included Anakin Skywalker. Anakin was also released as part of the Ultimate Lightsaber Duel (#7257). 2005 also saw the release of the first original trilogy sets with skin tone colored minifigures that included Imperial Inspection (#7264) with Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, and two Imperial Officers. Two UCS sets were released in 2005, taking the tally of sets to 22 (not including promotional sets). These were the Sandcrawler (#10144) and the largest set released up until 2005, Death Star II with 3,441 pieces. 2005 also saw several promotional sets including a figure and display stand given to guests invited by LEGO to the 2005 International Toy Fair in New York in February. The figures featured were either Luminara Unduli or Anakin Skywalker, both of which came with light-up lightsabers. At the International Toy Fair in New York, VIPs were also given a special boxed edition of Darth Vader’s Transformation (#7251). At the International Toy Fair in Nuremberg, Germany, guests were given a light-up Darth Vader polybag figure.
The first Ultimate Collector’s Series (UCS for those in the LEGO know) on our list is the deadly TIE Interceptor. Although this set it is only made up of 703 pieces, it’s valued at over $1000, about 10 times more than what it originally sold for. You would not want to destroy this with an X-wing or you would be out a lot of money.
Lego discontinues sets for a lot of different reasons… Mostly because of demand for parts I am sure, they cannot thin out their lines to keep 1000 more sets in production, plus sets get old, they do.. most people one and they want to see the next one out.. therefore if they were to make more of them then no one would buy.. and no, only selling 3 sets to people over 1 year is not their idea of good sales…. Then they would need to list a lot of their warehouse for 50% off.. again not something they want to do…. I mean look at the steamrollers and pig farms, which would not die… I think the biggest reason is to keep the lines fresh.. not to mention sets can come back at times (see the Metroliner, Main street, Black Falcons Fortress and Guarded Inn and recently the Maersk Container ship).
There are a lot of reasons that LEGO might stop producing a set, and I would assume it’s a balance between the cost of doing production runs of the necessary pieces, the projected volume of sales, and their availability of SKUs.
That’s a really good suggestion about working with problem parts, especially with large sets like the modulars. Thanks for sharing! And yes, the Marina Bay Sends set is a very nice build with interesting techniques, so are many of the other LEGO Architecture sets. 🙂
2) Make those sets big, and hopefully limited editions. Limited-edition and seasonal sets typically appreciate well—as you likely know, the combination of rarity and desirability is the magic formula for appreciation. So do big ones (think: thousands of pieces) with intricate details. And anything related to movies or franchises (Star Wars, Disney, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, et al.) tend to garner strong returns.
Follow these instructions at your own risk. LEGO customer service warns against using washing machines due to the risk of damage from heat or tumbling.> Many LEGO bricks have emerged from the machine unharmed, but that is not necessarily true for your bricks and your washing machine.[3]
Put the bricks in a transparent container. Sun exposure is an important part of this method, so use a glass or plastic container. Place it in an area with plenty of sun, but keep it away from children and pets, as non-edible materials will be used.
Build Quality: Pretty solid, I’m happy to say. This set does not sacrifice build quality for detail (which many LEGO sets unfortunately do). You may find that the tree tops pop off when you’re rearranging the different modules, but everything else sticks solid.
Buildable LEGO® BrickHeadz construction character featuring Captain Phasma™ has authentic details from the blockbuster Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie, including iconic First Order Stormtrooper armor and helmet, buildable cape and a detachable blaster pistol.
We have strong reason to believe that LEGO 75060 Slave 1 UCS has a high risk of retiring soon! I use savings websites/apps like Walmart Savings Catcher, IBotta, Checkout51, Microsoft Rewards (Bing Search) to earn gift cards. I then use the gift cards to purchase Lego for my son’s birthday and Christmas presents. I match the gift cards with low-price sales at Amazon, Walmart, or ToysRUs.
In order to hold the pieces I pull for the project, I typically use a sturdy zip-lock style bag. I actually found the two gallon variety works amazingly well for large sets. As I go through the list, I’m either clicking the delete box when I have all the pieces or I’m moving the quantity I still need into the comment box from the minimum quantity wanted. The reason for this move has to do with how BrickLink functions. If you keep the amount only in the minimum quantity wanted box, it only shows that element if that quantity is reached in a particular store. So even if the store has some of the pieces you need, it will not show up if you have the minimum quantity box filled with a higher number. Unlike the minimum quantity box, the comment box is only a brief note. So no matter how many pieces a store has, their inventory will show up in your search results. And the nice thing is that your note will also show right under where you would indicate how much of each piece you want.

Pantenkind, I do not think that the UCS would be anywhere near as popular right now if it HADN’T been discontinued. Part of it’s appeal now is that you cant just go and buy it and that the longer you leave it the more expensive it may get.
But there’s much more than just Star Wars selling. A look at the best-selling kits on BrickPicker shows trains, play houses, dinosaurs, Harry Potter sets, Back to the Future Deloreans and Pirate sets all featuring.
This is not a set you could win in a card game, no matter how drunk Lando gets. It’s the rarest set in this or any Galaxy. Han Solo himself would need several weeks to build the 5,195 piece Millennium Falcon, even with the giant bound instruction guide. May the force be with you if you decide to add this ship to your LEGO Star Wars collection because you’ll need $10,000 to own it.

To me “Retiring Soon” label was the latest promotional tool from S@H to entice people to buy older sets WITHOUT loss of profit (via discounts).  Since it is just a promo tool, it does not need to be 100% reliable.

New building techniques introduced with this set include a systematic way of building numbers. On the front of the building the year 1932 appears, which is a reference to when LEGO was founded. The number 3 also appears on the pavement of the set representing that this is the 3rd set on the series from Lego set designer Jamie Berard (he had previously designed Café Corner and Green Grocer).[15]
Here is a great Lego replacement piece.  I bought the set #7783 at a rummage sale, but it was missing some pieces, so I am selling the sticker sheet by itself.  Comes as shown, BRAND NEW, NEVER USED.  I ship world wide.  I accept paypal email with any questions I combine shipping on all orders!!
Toddler-friendly, and designed with little ones in mind, it’s a safe way to amp up the fun at home! There’s a secret compartment in the back to stow extra gear and wide tires that perform on both flat and grassy surfaces. And it only goes 2 miles per hour, so moms and dads don’t have to worry about going too fast.
Ninjago City (set number 70620), a large 4867 piece set, was released in late August at a MSRP of US$299/299€ to coincide with the release of the Lego Ninjago Movie. Although not advertised as a modular building, it features the same structure as the regular modulars with a 32×32 stud baseplate, building connectors and a river matching the same dimensions as the sidewalk. It is a huge 3-level model with each level themed differently. The bottom level contains an old fashioned fish market; the middle level contains a modern comic store, crab restaurant and a retail store; and the top level contains a sushi restaurant with a modern Asian-style restroom—topped with a “Dragon Gate” (see Feng shui) and communications assembly—as well as a small living apartment for the title “Green Ninja” character Lloyd Garmadon and his mother. The set comes with 16 different minifigures.
20 Technic connector pins. 7 Spur Gears. 1 Pneumatic Air tank. 14 Hose connectors -Dark Bluish Gray. 20 T Fittings -Light Bluish Gray. Lego PRO Kit ! 2 Mini Pumps (5.5 Lego studs long). 7 Hose connectors -Blue.

Going back to the #10232 LEGO Creator Palace Cinema, it is somewhere in the middle between the earliest LEGO Modular Buildings, with detailed exteriors, sparse interiors, and taller overall size, and the recent Modulars that are shorter, but are much more detailed on the inside and outside. The Palace Cinema looks great on the outside with colorful (and interchangeable!) posters and other details, but the inside could use a bit of extra decor. And, it is the only LEGO Modular Building with stickers (movie posters, signs, movie screen). It is also one of only three corner buildings, which makes it very useful to turn at the corner, or finish off a street. As you can see, there are some plusses and minuses to this set, but overall it is a well-liked Modular. Below, I have included the official description as well as a video-review, so you can see all the details. And if you want to purchase it, it’s available at the LEGO Creator section of the Online LEGO Shop.
Using Lego bricks also supports fine-tuned motor functions, hand eye coordination, and creativity, and it allows children and adults alike the opportunity to lose themselves in their own imaginations. This play time is critically important, as we know that a lack of play can lead to developmental issues and have very negative effects on proper brain development.
Green Grocer (set number: 10185) was the third of the Modular Buildings series. It was originally released in 2008 at a MSRP of US$149/£99.[12] The set contains 2352 pieces and is recommended for builders 16 years of age or older. Some of the set features include a blue and white awning, opening doors and windows, detailed interiors to each room, a roof terrace, a fire escape, access to a courtyard behind the building, and 4 minifigures.[13] Advanced building techniques used in Green Grocer include using black skeleton legs and hammers to make railings, using black spear guns as railings for the fire escape, using a paddle for a pendulum in a grandfather clock, and using hinges to make a bay window.[14]
The thirteenth set of the modular buildings is a particularly large one — 10260 Downtown Diner includes 2480 pieces. A three-store building with a 1950s-style diner in the first level, a gym on the second level and a recording studio on the third. Includes 6 minifigures and a pink convertible car.
LSP borrows and adapts concepts of constructivism, and may have an important role to play in supporting multi-sensory approaches to reflecting on learning, either along with, or instead of, basic writing. The structure of Lego Serious Play allows participants the freedom of exploring and expanding on new ideas without the fear of being wrong or looking stupid. After all, they are simply playing with Legos.
Palace Cinema (set number 10232) was released in March 2013 at a MSRP of US$149/139€. It is the eighth set in the Modular Building line and the third corner building. The set contains 2194 pieces and features architectural homage to the Egyptian Revival architecture of the early 20th Century, albeit with Chinese-like cultural appropriations similar to Hollywood’s Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. As such it also features Hollywood Walk of Fame type printed star tiles for the outer sidewalk—LEGO elements that after retiring in 2017 re-emerged to decorate the walls in 2018’s Downtown Diner. Palace Cinema is the first Modular Building set to be released with the LEGO Creator Expert branding on its box and was the first to include stickers (opposed to all decorated elements being factory-printed). Some of these are movie posters containing LEGO “easter eggs” in-jokes such as the ubiquitous brick separator tool used to disassemble (Godzilla-like “The Brick Separator”), the time-consuming sorting of LEGO elements (“Forever Sorting”), and LEGO’s iconic 1990 red Airport Shuttle #6399 set (“Mystery On The Monorail”). Also, Palace Cinema was the first of the Modular Building sets to have only two floors (albeit with higher ceilings than the norm) instead of the usual three; and the second (of three Modulars as of 2018) to include a vehicle: a black car styled loosely on a convertible Buick.

I’ve just asked Lego Direct about it, while on the phone to them placing an order, and I spoke to a most apologetic man, who said that he had no idea when sets were retired, but Exclusives were normally 3 years and normal sets 2. I don’t know if you just got lucky with who you spoke to on the phone @winter_zombie, or maybe they were wildly speculating. He said the Death Star had been around for ages and was still going strong which would imply that he hasn’t heard of it going anytime soon. I have to admit I was hoping that the DS and EN would be included in the sale, but no luck…
4. While this set is designed for much older children, my 6 year old was able to assemble stage 2 by himself. He was very proud of the outcome. The only help I gave was some initial sorting and moral support.
Similarly a sports store would be cool. Again, it could make use of various accessories. Soccer balls, basketballs, skis, ski poles, skates, skate boards, snow boards, surf boards, boxing gloves, boxing headgear, baseball bats, flippers, fishing rods, rackets, etc.
I’m not sure if what sold out of set #10199 was the end of the 2010 season stock or the rest of the sets. Perhaps the Winter Bakery’s seasonal stock isn’t selling as fast since they were discounted by the Lego brand stores, though they seem to be gone from the NoVa stores. I probably saw the same Toy Shops that Yellowcastle found at the Potomac Mills, VA Lego store this last week.
Time will tell, but I’m particularly skeptical that we’ll see 10193 Medieval Market Village last through the end of 2012, as it’s already marked as “discontinued from the manufacturer” on Amazon. If Toys R Us — which recently sold out their sale –doesn’t replenish it’s stock, that will be further indication that the end is near.
I think you would have to look at it in an entrepreneur/business man’s point of view to understand it. If people aren’t buying enough of the sets to keep a good profit after a few years, Lego might find that they would make more money using the same pieces if they were to discontinue the set and release a new one people would buy more of. If you already have an old set that is still on the market, there wouldn’t be much point in buying a second or third. (assuming its for personal use.)

Grand Emporium (set number 10211), released in March 2010, is the fifth set in the Modular Buildings series. The set contains 2182 pieces, was priced at MSRP US$149/149€ and is recommended for builders 16 years of age or older. Modeled to look like a realistic early 20th Century department store, the set includes a realistic exterior with an ice cream stand, store window displays, window washer platform, and rooftop billboard. Interior details for the three-floor building include an escalator, dressing room, and a wide assortment of “merchandise.” It is built as a block corner building, similarly to Café Corner, Palace Cinema and Brick Bank. There are 7 minifigures, including two that are decorated with blank faces to look like mannequins.[16]
LEGO City Great Vehicles Stunt Truck 60146 Building Kit Product Features Features a big rear wing and big knobby tires Includes a stunt truck driver minifigure Stunt truck measures over 2” (6cm) high, 4” (12cm) long and 2” (6cm) wide This set offers an age-appropriate build and play experience for ages 5-12 Product Description Get behind the wheel of the LEGO city stunt truck and prepare to make some big air jumps, featuring a truck with a big rear wing and big knobby tires, plus a minifigure.
The façade of the building features pink-and-teal 20th Century Art Deco-phase of styling with a large pink ‘DINER’ sign. Though Streamline Moderne style architecture first emerged in the 1930s this modular has a more 1950s-style color treatment than the general era of previous Modulars (~1930s). Other external features include arched linteled windows, balconies and a wrought iron-style exterior staircase and a detailed sidewalk, complete with mailbox, parking meter, flower pots and the iconic white streetlamp of the Modular collection. It’s the third Modular set to include a vehicle– this time a 1950’s-style convertible automobile recalling an homage to Elvis Presley’s pink Cadillacs. (One of the minifigures also features an Elvis-style of pompadour hairstyle.)
When your toddler has graduated from the Duplo stage and is ready to take the next step in his, or her, Lego journey, the Lego Ultimate Building Set is the ideal graduation gift. However, if you want just (1) set, this would be a nice one to get. Compared to the original Jabba’s palace, this set is much more sturdy. I would not let the kids play with the older one because it would probably not last long and fall apart. This set however survives a 3yr old very well.

Mmmmm it just seems ludicrous to me that in order to save money, I have to purchase the earlier wave Lego Dimension sets from a seller in North America. Even with international postage costs, these sets (boxed) work out at an approx saving of 50% compared to the UK price. This seller must have purchased the sets when they were drastically reduced in price, and is obviously making a profit.

I will post at the buyers expense Finally, when it comes to minifigures, look them up both completely assembled as well as in parts. Often a very rare minifigure that may go for $20 assembled can be bought for less than half that price in parts. I typically create a second Wanted List for this very purpose to make searching easier. Also, some LEGO fans who piece together sets don’t even care about the minifigs. For example if you are setting up a street with multiples of the same LEGO Modular Building, you may only need one set of the minifigures. On LEGO Shop@home you can now search for sets that are due to be retired soon. Most are this year’s sets that only have a year’s shelf life, but if you want to complete a certain theme it can at least give you an idea of what you need to get first. However, it’s the exclusives on the list that will interest most of us and as we predicted the other month there are some big sets going out by the end of 2015. I bought this for my 4 year old son for Yule. Since he's not quite ready to assemble these sets yet, I was pleased to see that the pieces were conveniently bagged in a way that would facilitate assembly. Bag number 1 contains the figures, which gave my son something to play with while the rest of the set was being assembled. Bags numbers 2 through 10 could then be opened in order, assembling the structure from each bag before opening the next. The base plates are in a separate bag but they are large enough that they are unlikely to be lost. Having only one bag open at a time - with the smaller pieces in a smaller baglet within that bag - greatly reduced the chances of losing a piece, and in fact only one piece was lost during assembly by mommy, daddy, and 6 year old big sister, despite the attempts of 2 year old brozilla. You can’t actually build your Star Wars Super Star Destroyer. These sets need to stay unopened and untouched to build value. And whatever you do, don’t stack them on top of each other—that will mess up the boxes. Creased corners mean lower prices. Stack them vertically as you would books on a bookshelf. What a fun and creative building set! This was purchased as a gift for a four year old boy’s birthday and he absolutely loved it. He has lots of legos already, but this set was a great addition to his collection. This set definitely inspires the mind as it can be built at least three different ways. It has lots of fun little extras like the ladder that lifts up and the trap door that can be sealed. It just has lots of fun little elements. It comes with complete instructions for building it all 3 ways and provides hours of brain-stimulating fun for children in a wide range of ages. I would recommend this building set for anyone who likes legos whether they have lots of sets already or are just starting out. A young child will need help building the sets so it makes a great one on one activity to do with you child. I am pleased with the quality, the price, and the overall value of this lego set.
I think the MechDragon went on sale after I wrote this article. As I mentioned; this time of the year it is a good idea to check both lists frequently as new items get added regularly. As far as the Detective Agency, yeah, it is too awesome! And I love the story about the cookies! 😛
If, like me, you were at elementary/primary school when you first saw Star Wars then there’s a very good possibility that, also like me and my peers, you grew up playing with LEGO. My bedroom floor was literally carpeted with LEGOs, and I built makeshift dioramas out of it so that I could create some of my favorite moments from the film(s) with my Star Wars action figures from Kenner/Palitoy.
This item may have minor scuff marks on it, but still looks very good. WARNING – LEGO pieces are intended and rated for children 5 years and up. Be advised that LEGO parts should not be swallowed as it can present a choking hazard.
The LEGO is an impressive pirate ship from Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean movie. It features a hinged bow section, opening skeleton hull with decay and destruction detailing, movable rudder, collapsible main mast, and two further masts. Other features include a long bowsprit with crow’s nest and mast, tattered sails, detailed quarterdeck, plus a rowboat with two oars. Weapons include two gray swords, three black swords, a pistol and the Silent Mary Masthead’s shield and sword elements. [ 332 more words ]

For Lego collectors seeking the best and most expensive Lego sets, this set is one to get your hands on. One customer wrote, “This is my favorite so far. It great seeing this fully [built] and sitting majestically on the cabinet. My friend suggested it may need some lights. Next time I put it together I may try adding a few light bricks inside so there will be a bit of a glow from it.” He may be referencing the fact that the Taj Mahal takes on different hues according to the time of the day; a pinkish color in the morning, a milk white in the evening, and a golden color at night.
As a fan, however, it’s very difficult to tell how well a LEGO set sells for the company. Just because the aftermarket cost is high doesn’t necessarily mean that there are a LOT of people still demanding a set for the MSRP.
Yes, I know that sounds silly. Many Lego maniacs will sniff you out. But, lots of kids don’t really care where the Lego come from. Mine certainly didn’t. They were thrilled with this random bag my mom picked up at a garage sale for a few bucks.
Oh boy, how I wanted to have an AT-AT since I was a little kid. Even the protagonist And not only because they’re the “most heavily armored ground vehicle in the Imperial Army”, but because the lead character in E.T. had one as a toy!

So my question is, should I pass on this theme as a whole, or jump in right now and start relocating my assets to get the three sets that are still out. How many people out here are collecting them and how many pass them up based on price or lack of interest? Again I don’t have many city sets, (currently the only city sets I have that are complete and constructed are the City Small Car (3177), and Camper (7639)). But then again, it would be an excellent display for many Collectible Minifigures, which I collect avidly.

I would just like to add to your post, they also make other modular sets that are not exclusive to the Creator Expert line, but they are exclusive or somewhat close. The best two examples that I can give you would be the Monster Fighters Haunted House which actually can fit into your LEGO city, if you want to incorporate it. The other set which came out earlier this year is the Bike Shop & Cafe set.
Assembly Square (set number: 10255) is the twelfth set in the Modular Building line. It was released on 1 January, 2017 at a MSRP of US$279/239€. This set contains the most pieces of any previous Modular set at 4002 pieces as well as the most minifigures: 9 (just barely by being the third LEGO set release to include an infant).

Sure…the review may seem a bit on the negative side…however, AFTER encountering the issues I mentioned, I still ordered TWO of the LEGO Police Station 7498s, the LEGO City Police Command Center 7743, and TWO of LEGO Bricks & More Deluxe Brick Box 5508 in addition to this kit.
All of those complaints are minor, however, and only downgrade the set from “perfect” to “still really great”. I would still highly recommend this set for any camping, outdoors, or large vehicle fans of LEGO.

Odd distribution of blocks. I can see including even numbers of particular blocks, since it at least allows you to achieve some sort of symmetry to satisfy your OCD (like me) but this kit shipped with odd numbers of blocks so I found myself switching colors because i could not complete a certain part of the case due to running out of the required color of blocks.
At 3,152 pieces, this Super Star Destroyer is an even larger undertaking than the Ultimate Star Destroyer we listed earlier. And given the thinner design of this one, you could argue that it’s even more difficult to build. Again, the limited color palette makes picking the right pieces difficult, and the stark Imperial design makes the job at hand even harder.

This kind of project is definitely take a lot of resources, both on time and money, but isn’t that what hobbies are for? I already started ordering a couple hundred euros on the first pieces, and I’ll keep on this until I completed it. I’ll keep you posted.

I would not have called that. They have some really good designers and I would have thought they would have found a way around that, if it’s worth it. Just scale the Technic figures as well (I could think of a way to do that, just make them more modular, or simply make large/medium/small versions.), or only include them in larger models and make the larger models roughly to one scale.

I agree, the date for Fire Brigade just doesn’t seem right. If it were following the trend of the previous sets in this theme it would discontinue around December this year. I would also think the Grand Emporium would discontinue in December 2012 instead of 2013 while the for the Pet Shop seems correct.
Fair enough, and before the internet I think that would be a valid point. I personally cannot see how paying more makes collecting more fun? Its not like you work harder (other than for your money) to buy it. Instead of buying from one web site you just buy from another.

How many pieces are there? – Unless you have actually counted them, don’t give an estimate of how many pieces are in your lot. A better way to quantify your lot is by weight (not including the container or instruction books).
Put the bricks in a transparent container. Sun exposure is an important part of this method, so use a glass plastic container. Place it in an area with plenty of sun, but keep it away from children and pets, as non-edible materials will be used.
Force Friday II is right around the corner, and with it will come a barrage of new Star Wars merch to hype us up for The Last Jedi. We don’t really need to be hyped up for the next film in the Star Wars saga, but if there has been one thing synonymous with the franchise it’s merchandising.
Fantastic set. I love the creator line for their versatility. I remember old Lego products having ‘alternate’ configurations in photos on the box/instructions, but no instructions on building those variations.

Twenty-two years after Star Wars was released, LEGO and Lucasfilm worked together to produce products in time for the release of Episode I in May 1999. The first sets were released under the LEGO System brand and consisted of eight sets from Episode I and five sets (13 in total) from the original trilogy films, including the first LEGO Star Wars X-wing (#7140) and Snowspeeder (#7130). Both of these sets have been revisited again many times in minifigure scale, MINI or even Ultimate Collectors Series (UCS) form — each new release bringing new features, new minifigures and new colored bricks and pieces too.

LEGO released their first entry into the Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series back in 2000 and found they had created a big hit with collectors and adult fans of LEGO. While those initial sets were not nearly as popular as the current UCS collection, it was enough to create a long running series of models with new releases every year. The popularity of the series has grown ever since and exploded in recent years. It has grown to the point that many Star Wars UCS sets represent the best LEGO investments, with even recent entries showing excellent growth after retirement.
The MINI sets continued in 2004 with a total of seven releases including four larger vehicles (in plastic boxes): the Star Destroyer (#4492), AT-TE (#4495), and three polybags including X-wing Fighter (#6963), Boba Fett’s Slave I (#6964), and TIE Interceptor (#6965). Eight other sets were released in 2003 taking the tally to 15; these included the second release of the Rebel Snowspeeder (#4500), the second release of the Millennium Falcon (#4504), and the third release of the X-wing Fighter (#4502) in minifigure form. This release of the X-wing Fighter came with Yoda’s Hut from Dagobah. 2004 also saw the first release of the Mos Eisley Cantina set (#4501), which featured a small section of the wretched hive of scum and villainy, a Dewback, Landspeeder, and five minifigures — Han Solo, Greedo, Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Sandtrooper. There was only one UCS set released in 2004, which was the Y-Wing Attack Starfighter (#10134). 2004 was the first year to feature a set from the Expanded Universe, the TIE Droid Fighter or TIE Drone; this was included as part of the TIE Collection (#10131).
There are only two ships more iconic than the X-Wing, and both of them made this list. No rebel force will be complete without a fleet of X-Wings, but this 1,304 piece set is a bit too pricey for you to make your own squadron. Coming up with $3,500 to purchase one these resistance fighters might be as difficult as destroying the Death Star.
Most, if not all, of the sets branded with the same imminent departure label over the Christmas period are long gone by now. This blocky recreation of the intimidating Imperial craft clocks in at over 3,000 pieces, providing the level of scale necessary for the iconic triangular battleship. Thanks to Steven Morin for emailing in about this as a reminder.
